Owning a business requires meticulous tracking of which expenses are personal and which are business-related.

Of course, the simplest way to do this is to have a business credit card to use for (and track and organize) all business expenses.

But this isn’t all that business cards are good for. These days, the best business cards can offer cardholders elevated earnings on key business-related spending categories, often larger credit limits, travel rewards, cash-back, and travel perks such as expedited airport security and lounge access.

With so many options available, which is the best choice?

After examining all the best contenders, I’ve come to realize that the best pick for me is one that offers simplicity and travel perks simultaneously. In my opinion, no business card fits this form better than the Capital One Venture X Business Card.

Capital One Miles

Yes, these spending requirements are indeed high. Still, the ability to earn a large number of Capital One miles from a single welcome offer is certainly worth it if your business requires a high level of spending.

However, there’s much more to this card than its welcome offer:

The card’s value proposition increases even further when you consider the fact that the Capital One Venture X Business card charges an annual fee of $395considerably lower than what many of its peers charge.

Now, let’s examine some of the aforementioned aspects of the Capital One Venture X Business card and see how they align with my lifestyle in a way that makes it the only business card I need.

1. A Simple, But Powerful, Earning Structure

There’s no doubt that many business credit cards offer incredible earning rates on specific categories and business-related expenses, but I don’t have the time — or desire — to effectively track every single purchase I make on a day-to-day basis.

This is precisely where the Capital One Venture X Business card shines. It earns unlimited 2x miles on every purchase, which allows me to ensure I’m still earning at a brisk rate, no matter the purchases I make in a given month.

While I may miss out on some 5x miles, for example, on particular purchases, I think that in the aggregate, I’d rather earn 2x miles consistently across the board. I don’t have to worry about checking the benefits of my card before every purchase to ensure I’m maximizing my spend.

The Capital One Venture X Business card does offer some elevated earning categories. I can earn 10x miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Business Travel, and 5x miles on flights and vacation rentals booked through the same portal, but these aren’t particularly arduous to remember, and I view it as yet another win in my book when I make eligible purchases through the portal.

2. Capital One Miles Unlocks Incredible Travel Opportunities

As a Capital One Venture X Business cardholder, I’ll earn Capital One Miles, which has undergone significant improvements in recent years to become one of the best programs for unlocking incredible travel redemptions.

If you’re able to earn the full welcome offer, your freshly minted Capital One miles are worth a whopping $2,700, according to our valuation of Capital One miles at 1.8 cents apiece.

You can achieve excellent value from your miles if you effectively leverage the program’s 22 airline and hotel transfer partners.

One of Capital One’s newest transfer partners is Japan Airlines Mileage Bank with a 2:1.5 transfer ratio. Because JAL opens far more award space to its own members than to partners, it’s significantly easier to book business class seats from the U.S. to Japan for about 75,000 JAL miles, or equivalent to 100,000 Capital One Miles.

Hot Tip:

Not all transfer ratios are straightforward with a 1:1 rate. Bookmark our transfer partner calculator tool to see exactly how many miles you need to move over for your next redemption.

3. Easily Offset the Annual Fee

The Capital One Venture X Business card charges an annual fee of $395.

It’s reasonable when you compare that figure to what many of its competitors charge, and the value further improves when you consider that you can very easily offset the annual fee with just 2 benefits the card offers.

First, it offers a $300 annual travel credit for bookings made through Capital One Business Travel. I have no trouble at all using this benefit each year, as I travel frequently for work purposes. Aside from the fact that it only applies to purchases made through Capital One Business Travel, it has no other restrictions, which means it can be used for airfare, as I prefer to use it.

Using the credit this way can easily get me a flight (or 2) and effectively brings the annual fee of the card down to $95 in my mind.

But it gets better. You can effectively come out ahead because you receive an automatic deposit of 10,000 Capital One miles at each card anniversary. According to our latest valuations, 10,000 Capital One miles are worth $180.

Bottom Line:

When you combine the value of just these 2 perks, I can lock in $480 in annual value, which exceeds the card’s annual fee.

4. Travel Perks That Elevate Every Journey

The Capital One Venture X Business card offers a suite of travel perks that enhance every journey.

First, it provides up to a $120 statement credit for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry enrollment fees. Anyone who travels frequently knows how vital either (or both) of these programs is to making the airport experience seamless.

If you travel internationally even once a year (or once every few years), it’s a no-brainer to enroll in Global Entry, as it also includes enrollment in TSA PreCheck, meaning you’ll have all of your bases covered when it comes to passing through airports quickly.

Next, cardholders get access to over 1,300 airport lounges, including Capital One Lounges and Landings and participating Priority Pass lounges upon enrollment. The ability to access an airport lounge is a real differentiating factor in determining whether a travel day is miserable or downright enjoyable.

Capital One Lounges and Landings are incredible spaces to kill time before a flight. They are arguably the best lounge product currently available from a credit card issuer. Capital One plans to significantly expand its lounge footprint, which is currently fairly limited. Currently, you can find Capital One Lounges in Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Denver (DEN), Las Vegas (LAS), New York (JFK), and Washington, D.C. (IAD).

When you arrive at your destination, you can enhance your hotel stay with the Capital One Premier Collection, which offers elite-like perks, including daily complimentary breakfast for 2, a $100 experience credit, and more.

5. Travel Protections Provide Peace of Mind on the Go

In addition to all the perks that make traveling easier and more enjoyable, the Capital One Venture X Business card can also come in handy should anything go wrong on a given journey.

The card offers a solid list of travel insurance and protections, including the following:

  • Primary auto rental insurance
  • Travel and emergency assistance services
  • Lost luggage reimbursement
  • Roadside dispatch

6. Excellent Spending Power and Tracking Features

The Capital One Venture X Business card is, after all, a business credit card, so it comes with several features that make it easy for any business owner to track and manage spending.

It allows you to automatically sync all transaction data with your accounting software, making it easy to sort through your business expenses. It also provides end-of-year summary reports of your spending throughout the year, which helps tremendously when tax time arrives.

Plus, the card has no preset spending limit, providing significant purchasing power should large expenses arise, an essential feature for any business owner.

Final Thoughts

The Capital One Venture X Business card excels in so many ways, and it has emerged as the one-size-fits-all solution for my business card needs.

Not only does it provide all the features you’d expect as a business owner, but it also offers a way to earn a significant number of points on all purchases and access to the valuable Capital One Miles program, which unlocks incredible travel redemptions. Not only that, but it also packs several travel-focused features that elevate this card from a simple utility to an essential tool to make any journey more seamless and enjoyable.
