Chase Ultimate Rewards

If you do apply before Thursday, July 30 at 3 p.m. PST, note the minimum spending requirement of at least $5,000 within the first 3 months of account opening. Once you meet or exceed that threshold, expect the bonus points to post to your account within 1 to 2 billing cycles.

According to our latest valuations, Chase Ultimate Rewards points are worth 2 cents apiece, so 100,000 of them are worth worth $2,000. However, you can boost the value of your points when you leverage Chase’s numerous airline and hotel transfer partners, which we’ll illustrate throughout this story.

The New and (Mostly) Improved Chase Sapphire Preferred Card

Without making a change to the $95 annual fee, Chase was able to beef up the card’s earning structure and perks:

• Earn 3x points on gas, EV charging, and vacation homes, including Airbnb and Vrbo.
• Receive a $120 Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS credit every 4 years.
• Get a complimentary Apple TV subscription for 1 year when activated by December 31, 2026.
• Get a $100 Chase Travel hotel credit on your account anniversary (increased from $50).

These are all additive to the card’s existing earning structure:

• Earn 5x points on purchases made through Chase Travel.
• Earn 3x points on dining and select streaming services.
• Earn 2x points on general travel purchases.
• Earn 1x points on all other purchases.

However, there’s been 1 very noteworthy (and unfortunate) change involved in this refresh. Chase devalued the transfer ratio for Chase Sapphire Preferred cardholders to World of Hyatt from its former 1:1 rate to 4:3. This already applies to new cardholders as of June 15, 2026, and will go into effect for those who opened their account before June 15, 2026, on October 1, 2026.

Booking a Round-Trip Flight With Chase Points

If you’re a Chase Sapphire Preferred cardholder, there are multiple ways to use your points to book flights.

First, you could transfer points to any one of Chase’s 10 airline transfer partners, including major programs, including Air Canada Aeroplan, The British Airways Club, Southwest Rapid Rewards, and United MileagePlus.

Alternatively, you can also use the Chase Travel portal to book flights directly with your Ultimate Rewards points. Chase has a relatively new feature, known as Points Boost, which can give you up to 1.5 cents per point in value for domestic and close-in international flights, and up to 1.75 cents per point in value for long-haul international flights in premium cabins.

This is a great option for when you’re having trouble utilizing one of the Ultimate Rewards transfer partners, especially because you can still earn credit toward elite status on top of redeemable miles when you book through the Chase Travel portal — even if you’re using points to cover the entire fare.

In this case, I was able to find a round-trip flight between Chicago (ORD) and Nassau (NAS) at a very favorable rate with one of Chase’s transfer partners, Air Canada Aeroplan, on a combination of Air Canada and United flights.

The flight costs a total of 30,000 Aeroplan points round-trip. Thanks to the 1:1 transfer ratio from Chase, I can simply transfer 30,000 points from my newly minted stash of Ultimate Rewards points to Aeroplan instantly, book the flight, and pay the taxes with my Chase Sapphire Preferred card.

After I book the flight, I’ll still have 70,000 Ultimate Rewards points (and likely a bit more because spending done to achieve the welcome offer also adds to the points balance) to use to book my hotel.

Booking the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar With Chase Points

Despite the devaluation of the transfer ratio from Chase to World of Hyatt, I still value Hyatt redemptions highly, still remaining my go-to hotel loyalty program.

This situation is no different, and the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar is a perfect resort for my quick beach getaway. It’s a massive beachfront property with a whopping 8 pools (including one for adults only), a full-service spa, a golf course, a casino, and an absolutely jaw-dropping 45 restaurants and bars.

Guest rooms are spacious and comfortable, and even though it’s such a massive property, there’s enough space that you don’t feel like you’re on top of all the other guests.

Plus, it boasts easy access to Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport, which is especially valuable on a quick trip like this.

As a Category 7 World of Hyatt property, award costs range from the Lowest rate of 25,000 points per night to the Top rates of 55,000 points per night. Lucky for me, there’s plenty of “lowest” availability over the next several months at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, meaning I can book consecutive nights for 25,000 points each.

Since I only plan to travel for a quick weekend, I want to book 2 nights — Friday and Saturday — which requires 50,000 World of Hyatt points.

With the new 4:3 transfer ratio, it takes a bit of math to understand how many points you’ll actually need to move over. I’ve got the Upgraded Points’ transfer partner calculator tool bookmarked, so I quickly figured out that I’d need to move over 67,000 Chase points to yield 50,250 points. Once the transfer is complete, I can book the 2 nights on Hyatt’s website, and then everything will be set.

Final Thoughts

Despite an unfortunate devaluation of the World of Hyatt transfer ratio, it’s still possible to redeem your Chase points for an entire high-end weekend getaway. With flights and a hotel stay to the Caribbean booked, I’m making great use of the limited-time 100,000-point welcome bonus offer on the Chase Sapphire Preferred card.
