Update:The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

While the Citi Rewards+® Card isn’t as well-known as some other travel rewards cards, it’s a great choice for customers who want to rack up valuable ThankYou Points without having to pay an annual fee.

It’s also the only credit card that automatically rounds up to the nearest 10 points on every transaction — with no cap on how many points you can earn.

And the card’s new, increased welcome bonus offer of 25,000 ThankYou Points may be enough to convince prospective cardholders to apply.

To decide whether this welcome offer is worth considering, let’s take a look at the details.

Citi Rewards+ Card Welcome Offer and Card Details

Newly approved cardholders of the Citi Rewards+ card can earn 25,000 bonus points after spending $1,500 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. That’s a 5,000-point increase over the usual welcome offer for this card. We value Citi ThankYou Points at 1.6 cents per point, signifying that the 25,000-point welcome bonus is worth approximately $400.

Since there is a $0 annual fee on this card, the Citi Rewards+ card is worth keeping long-term and provides cardholders with several opportunities to earn bonus points. ThankYou Points are earned at the following rates for cardholders:

  • 5x points per $1 spent on hotel, car rentals, and attractions (excluding air travel) booked on the Citi Travel Portal through December 31, 2025
  • 2x points per $1 spent at supermarkets and gas stations for the first $6,000 per year, then 1x point per $1 spent thereafter
  • 1x points per $1 on all other purchases

The best thing about the card is that people who have it can earn points fast because every purchase rounds up to the nearest 10 points, and there is no cap on how many points you can earn. For example, if you put $2 into a parking meter, you’ll earn 10 points.

The card also offers 10% points back on the first 100,000 ThankYou Points redeemed per year and the ability to transfer your points to select Citi ThankYou Rewards transfer partners.

Ways To Redeem Your 25,000 Citi ThankYou Points

You will need a premium Citi card, such as the Citi Premier® Card, in order to transfer points for high-value redemptions, such as using Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles for flights to Hawaii. Image Credit: Jess Loiterton via Pexels

Speaking of transfer partners, Citi offers some great ones that can give you exceptional value when you’re looking to transfer points and redeem them for travel. Unfortunately, Citi Rewards+ cardholders can only transfer their ThankYou Points to 3 partners: Choice Privileges, JetBlue TrueBlue, or Wyndham Rewards.

If none of the aforementioned transfer partners appeal to you, the best use of the 25,000-point welcome bonus offer for cardholders without a premium Citi card is to exchange them for gift cards or redeem them for travel via the ThankYou Portal at a cost of 1 cent apiece.

However, if you also hold the Citi Premier card or Citi Prestige® Card (not accessible to new applicants), you can transfer points to all 16 of ThankYou Rewards’ airline and hotel transfer partners.

Here are a few examples of high-value redemptions if you have access to all of Citi’s transfer partners:

  • You can transfer 15,000 points to Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles and redeem them for a round-trip ticket to Hawaii on United.
  • Even better, you can fly United Polaris business class from anywhere on the U.S. mainland to Hawaii for just 12,500 Turkish miles each way, or 25,000 miles round-trip. That means this welcome offer alone could get you a round-trip ticket in business class to Hawaii!
  • If you mostly fly economy, you can transfer points to Avianca LifeMiles to book short-haul awards within the U.S. for as little as 7,500 miles each way.

Final Thoughts

The Citi Rewards+ card is an intriguing travel rewards card that rounds up each purchase to the nearest 10 ThankYou points and might be a smart addition to your wallet if you need a credit card for small everyday purchases.

With the elevated welcome offer and 5x points on many travel-related purchases, this is one of the best times to apply for the card to build up your ThankYou Points balance.
