Want to travel for cheap within the United States? Right now, United Airlines is offering round-trip tickets for domestic flights starting under $200. Let’s take a look at the promotion details and some examples of where you can go.

Fly Domestically With United for Under $200

Although United isn’t technically pushing this promotion as a sale, we are seeing lower-than-average pricing for tickets.

While you can search for flights via United’s home page, you can also visit the dedicated sale page to check out sample flights. Many of these flights list specific travel dates for the offer, so you’ll want to pay attention to those.

Some examples of deals include St. Louis (STL) to Chicago (ORD) for just $77 round-trip:

You can also fly from Orlando (MCO) to Newark (EWR) for just $149 round-trip:

Is It Worth It?

These are some pretty cheap flights for anyone looking to fly within the U.S., and they’re on a full-service carrier — rather than Spirit or Frontier. That means you’ll have free nonalcoholic drinks and snacks included with your ticket.

However, you’ll also want to note that the cheapest fares are also in basic economy, which is United’s most restrictive fare type. You won’t be able to choose a seat for free, you can’t bring a full-size carry-on bag, you won’t get full elite credit, and you’ll board last.

If you were already planning on paying for a checked bag, basic economy may make sense since a standard economy ticket doesn’t include free checked luggage either.

That being said, you’ll also want to take a look at competitors to see if there are better options. Consider the above example for a $149 flight from Orlando to Newark with United.

Instead, you can choose to pay $149 to fly with JetBlue, instead.

Unlike United, JetBlue allows you to bring a full-size carry-on bag with you on a basic economy ticket. Plus, the flight experience on JetBlue is objectively better. Basic economy ticket holders can pay to choose a seat, Wi-Fi is free, seats feature more legroom, and premium snacks are included.

Hot Tip:

When it’s time to pay for your tickets, you should earn some bonus points, miles, or cash-back. These are the best credit cards to use for airfare purchases.

Final Thoughts

United Airlines is selling round-trip tickets within the United States for under $200. For anyone looking for a deal, it’s worth checking prices to see if your dates and destination are on sale.

Before booking, however, it’s worth taking a look at the competition to see how pricing shakes out. In some cases, you can find better flights for equal (or less) money.
