Summer 2025 just started, and already, Delta Air Lines is thinking about next year. The Atlanta-based airline announced today that it would launch nonstop service from Seattle (SEA) to Barcelona (BCN) and Rome (FCO) next summer.

“We welcome the opportunity to grow our partnership with Delta as they expand Seattle’s connections to international communities and businesses,” said Port of Seattle Commissioner Fred Felleman.

Here’s what you need to know.

New Delta Flights Launch May 2026

Delta Air Lines will begin nonstop flights from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to both Barcelona (BCN) and Rome (FCO), beginning May 6, 2026. Flights will operate 4x weekly to Rome and 3x weekly to Barcelona.

Delta will fly its Airbus A330-900neo jet on both routes. This 281-seat jet features Delta One business class with full-height privacy doors and Premium Select.

The airline says it has launched 28 new destinations from its Seattle hub over the past decade. Today, it operates 180 peak-day departures to more than 60 destinations worldwide.

This will be a much-needed route for Seattle, which currently has no nonstop flights to either city. However, this news comes on the heels of Alaska Airlines (which is headquartered in Seattle) announcing earlier this month that it would start service to Rome next May. When the route begins, it will be Alaska’s first flight serving Europe.

At the time, Alaska said Rome had been “at the top of the list” since it announced Seattle as a global gateway last year.

“Our guests have been asking for an easy way to get to Italy for years, and we’re thrilled to provide it to people in the Northwest and beyond,” Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci said at the time.

How To Book

If you’re as eager to book flights to Rome and Barcelona as we are, unfortunately, you’ll have to wait a little longer.

We aren’t seeing any availability on Google Flights or Delta.com with cash or Delta SkyMiles. Still, you’ll want to have some SkyMiles handy when the routes are available. Luckily, Delta miles are effortless to earn. Here are several ways:

Hot Tip:

Additionally, as Delta is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, its flights are available to book with points through other partners like Air France-KLM’s Flying Blue or Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club.

Final Thoughts

Delta’s addition of flights to Europe from Seattle is fantastic news, especially considering that there are currently no nonstop flights from the city to Rome or Barcelona. We’re looking forward to booking these flights when they’re finally available. Count on Upgraded Points to provide details on pricing when it becomes available.
