Update:

The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

Getting to New Zealand can be a lengthy (and costly affair) — and even more so if you aren’t redeeming points for these flights.

However, American Airlines and Fiji Airways are offering round-trip fares to Auckland (AKL) from just $520 in economy, meaning a trip to New Zealand doesn’t have to break the bank after all.

Here’s what you need to know to score this bargain to New Zealand.

Fare Deal — Details

It’s highly unusual to see flights going for this cheap to New Zealand. In fact, the last time we published a deal for this route, it was nearly $300 more! These flights are cheapest from Los Angeles (LAX), where they’re operated by American Airlines and are nonstop. However, you’ll also find discounts from San Francisco (SFO) and Dallas (DFW), where they’re operated by Fiji Airways.

As a bonus, all of these flights include a free checked bag.

  • Class: Economy
  • Routes: Dallas (DFW), Los Angeles (LAX), and San Francisco (SFO) to Auckland (AKL)
  • Dates: January to November 2025
  • Rates: From $520

As we mentioned, the cheapest fares are from LA, which makes sense as it’s closer to New Zealand:

Best Ways To Book

When booking a cash ticket, it’s always a good idea to use a travel card that will reward you for booking flights.

This includes cards such as The Platinum Card® from American Express, which earns 5x Membership Rewards points on flights booked directly with the airline or through AmexTravel.com (capped at $500,000 spent in purchases per calendar year, then 1x points).

Another good option is the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, which earns an uncapped 3x Ultimate Rewards on all travel purchases, no matter where you buy your flights.

Hot Tip:

Booking through an online travel agency (OTA) such as Kayak or Expedia can potentially save you a few dollars, which can seem appealing at the time of booking. However, it’s worth remembering that if you need to make changes or cancellations, the headache that can often come with dealing with an OTA can make the money you saved seem insignificant.

Final Thoughts

With widespread availability at low rates for these New Zealand flights, you basically have to book. While you’ll be flying in economy, you’ll get a free checked bag, complimentary seat selection, and free meals, which can ease the pain somewhat. Plus, these discounted flights are available throughout most of the year, which means you can visit from spring to summer without breaking the bank.
