IHG has revealed plans for an eco-forward property in Exeter, England, and what it calls the “first lifecycle net zero carbon hotel.”

Here’s everything you need to know about this voco property scheduled to open in 2024.

Voco Zeal Exeter Science Park

United Kingdom-based IHG announced plans for a 142-key voco hotel situated in the scenic city of Exeter in southwest England. This is a joint venture between IHG and Zeal Hotels, a development company targeting carbon net zero projects.

The hotel’s key distinguishing feature is in fact its net zero ambitions. This property will derive a majority of its energy from solar panels. The rest will come from renewable energy sources.

“This outstanding property in a beautiful part of southwest England perfectly illustrates the commitment of IHG and Zeal to doing business responsibly and will provide our guests with a place to stay that matches their own expectations around sustainability,” said Karin Sheppard, SVP Managing Director, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts.

Facilities at this voco will include a restaurant, bar, gym, gardens, meeting space, and numerous stations for charging electric vehicles.

How To Book IHG Hotels

If you’re interested in using points for your next trip to Exeter or elsewhere in England, you’ll find hotels across a range of IHG One Rewards brands, including voco, InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Kimpton, Hotel Indigo, and more.

For context, award rates at the Hotel Indigo Exeter start at 22,000 points per night for dates this October. We expect rates at this upcoming voco to generally be pricier than that, though there’s no way of knowing for sure at this point.

If you want to start saving your points now, you’re in luck, as it’s relatively easy to earn IHG One Rewards points. IHG offers 3 credit cards — 2 personal and 1 business — all issued by Chase. You can also transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt Rewards points to IHG One Rewards at a 1:1 ratio.

Final Thoughts

The global expansion of voco hotels has happened at a faster pace than any other of IHG’s premium brands, with 46 open hotels around the world and 59 properties in the pipeline.

This Exeter property stands out as one that will be carbon net zero and is set to open next year.
