Finding out that you need to cancel the flight you were looking forward to can really cause quite a headache, especially when you realize that you may need to pay extra fees to do so!

If you find yourself in a situation where you need to cancel your flight with Allegiant Airlines, it’s important to have a good understanding of their cancellation policy so that you can save yourself both time and money!

Cancellation Policies Due to COVID-19

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, you can change or cancel your ticket once without any change/cancellation fees. If you cancel, you will receive a voucher for future travel, but will not get a refund.

View the full policy here. If you booked via a third party, refer to your booking provider for its policies.

With cancellation policies due to COVID-19 being ever-changing, for the most up-to-date policies across all airlines, please refer to our COVID-19 Airline Cancellations article.

Allegiant’s Cancellation Policy: Flights Paid With Cash or Points

All tickets may be canceled for a full refund up to 24 hours after the time of purchase with no cancellation fees.

Standard Tickets

If you need to cancel your reservation with Allegiant, and it has been more than 24 hours since you booked your ticket, you will be charged a fee of $75 per passenger, per segment. Afterward, a credit will be issued minus the $75 cancellation fee. The remaining funds will be applied as non-refundable credit good for future travel with Allegiant.

No credit will be issued for no-shows or cancellations made within 7 days of flight departure.

Trip Flex

All tickets may be canceled for a full refund up to 24 hours after the time of purchase with no cancellation fees. If you’ve passed the 24 hour window, Trip Flex lets you make a one-time change to the date, flight or destination of your reservation, within certain guidelines, with no change fees or cancellation fees!

Keep in mind that Trip Flex may only be purchased at the time of booking, so you cannot add it to an existing reservation. The cost to add Trip Flex to your reservation is anywhere between $8 to $20 per person, per segment, depending on your routing.

With Trip Flex, you can change your itinerary once or even postpone your trip without paying change/cancellation fees of $75 each way per passenger. You will be responsible for any change in the price of airfare but your change fees will be waived. Passengers with Trip Flex tickets can modify their itinerary once, up to 1 hour prior to departure for airline ticket purchases, and up to 72 hours prior to departure for air/hotel package purchases.

Hot Tip: While you can cancel or change your flight without any fees, it is important to note that your flight is still non-refundable. This means if you cancel your flight, the funds of your original ticket will be applied as non-refundable credit good for future travel with Allegiant.

Award Ticket

Canceling an award ticket follows the same fee structure as cash tickets. If you’ve purchased Trip Flex with your award ticket then you will not be charged a fee to change or cancel your award ticket, otherwise, you must pay $75 per passenger, per segment.

However, if you booked your flight with points and decide that you need to cancel, unfortunately, you will not receive those points back. Instead of having those points redeposited in your account, you will receive a credit voucher issued for the reward itinerary value.

How to Cancel an Allegiant Ticket

Step 1: Log into your account on Allegiant’s homepage and select “Manage Travel”.

Step 2: Once you’ve selected the trip you want to cancel, select “Cancel Booking.”

Step 3: The next screen will ask you to confirm that you want to cancel your booking. After you click confirm then your booking will officially be canceled, and you’ll receive a voucher for any remaining funds after any potential cancellation fees.

How to Use an Allegiant Flight Voucher

If you have a flight voucher from a previous flight that you would like to use, first start a new booking on the Allegiant website. Once you’ve found the flight you want to book and reach the payment screen, click the dropbox and enter your voucher number.

A few helpful things to keep in mind with your Allegiant voucher:

  • Vouchers are not redeemable for cash.
  • If you only use part of your Allegiant voucher on a flight, you will be able to use the remaining credit voucher amount towards a new flight as long as travel is completed 1 year from the original itinerary booking date.
  • Vouchers are non-transferable and may only be redeemed in the name of the passenger to whom they were issued.
  • Vouchers can be used to cover both flights and any associated baggage fees.

Final Thoughts

If you’re booking a flight with Allegiant and are worried that you may need to cancel your flight, or just want the peace of mind to know that you can, purchasing a Trip Flex ticket will definitely be your best option.

When it comes to trip planning it’s helpful to know before you go, so that if problems arise you can save yourself a significant amount of time, stress, and money.

Frequently Asked Questions

If it has been less than 24 hours since the time you originally purchased the ticket, you can cancel at no cost to you.

If it has been more than 24 hours and you need to cancel your reservation with Allegiant, you will be charged a fee of $75 per passenger, per segment. Afterward, a credit will be issued minus the $75 cancellation fee.

If you’ve purchased the Trip Flex add-on you may cancel your flight without needing to pay the $75 cancellation fee.

Yes, all customers will have 24 hours from the time of their original booking to cancel their reservation without being charged a cancellation fee, regardless of fare selected.

Allegiant will not refund money for a canceled ticket directly to the card you used to pay. Instead, they will issue you a voucher good towards a future flight for the full amount of your ticket if you purchased the Trip Flex add-on, or the full amount minus the $75 cancellation fee if you did not.

Allegiant flight vouchers expire exactly 1 year from the date they were issued.

I am so upset that due to my senior mother being sick, I have to cancel my round trip ticket as well as my fiances’ ticket. Allegiant is going to penalize us for an emergency cancellation by charging $300.00. This is very thoughtless, especially around the holidays. The flights are not until January so those seats will definitely be resold. I know I should have done better research, however, it was my first time ever booking travel plans and as it turns out it’s costing me a ridiculous amount of money for something I have no control over.

I agree with you, Mary! I found myself in much the same dilemma, however, my circumstances are somewhat different. I booked a flight in Dec. 2019 for an intentional flight in March. However since that time, in fact within this very week. I have been scheduled for complicated dental surgery. This surgery has been in the planning stages for almost a year and it just happens that it was finally scheduled for March(1 week before my flight). As though that wasn’t reason, my husband was just diagnosed with cancer. I have no idea what we’re looking at for that, but when I tried to explain to one of the managers, he told me that he was sincerely sympathetic to my problems, but still could only offer me a VOUCHER minus cancellation of $110. The remainder of the refund would be given as a voucher!! I almost went ballistic! I told him exactly where to stick his voucher!! Especially since it would have to be used within 1 yr of the original purchase date!! Like I am going to feel like taking a trip anytime soon!!? I think Allegiant is completely heartless. My suggestion to anyone planning to fly allegiant, DON’T!! There are other airlines available. Try them all first!!

Our cruise for next month has been canceled. Carnival was extremely nice and helpful by giving a full refund. I assumed Trip Flex through Allegiant was for situations where you had to unexpectedly cancel a flight to get your money back. Unfortunately, we paid $1100.00 and Allegiant wants to issue a $749.00 voucher to be used by 8-17-2022. I just feel they could be more flexible during this pandemic. I don’t know when cruises will be safe again so don’t know when I could rebook. Like everyone else, I need my money, not a voucher. I can’t even transfer to someone who could use it to recoup the money. I am truly at a loss.

Any possibility of making some changes to the change/ cancellation policy due to the coronavirus pandemic? No options online except their ridiculous fees, and no way to contact anyone. Not responding to email and their phone line has been busied out for the last three days I’ve been trying. Is this any way to run an airline? Delta is waiving change fees for all flights March 1st through April so far.

Hi Tom,

We are Upgraded Points, a website that publishes helpful information for travelers. We do not represent Allegiant Airlines, nor any other airlines.

At this time, it does not appear that Allegiant has extended any sort of fee waiver for changes or cancellations. But we will continue to monitor for updates. I know it is frustrating, and I’m hopeful that, eventually, they will do the right thing.

It is a shame that Allegiant does not answer their phone. I have been trying since last Tuesday and the phone has been busy. I have had scam who says they are from Allegiant call from Tombstone AZ and they were trying to get my account. 1-520- 457-7544 None them can speak English. all the numbers are on the Allegiant networks. Allegiant need to step up and help people who need the help.

Hi Tom. Sorry you are having these issues, it has been frustrating for everyone. I have spent over 9 hours in the last 2 days trying to cancel all of my upcoming flights with 4 different airlines so understand your frustration. Have you tried contacting them via Twitter @Allegiant or on their Facebook page? They also have an online live chat feature here: https://www.allegiantair.com/contactus
I’m sure there will be a long wait regardless of the method of contact, however.

Hi Kirsten. I cannot find an email address on their website although they do have an online chat feature. Perhaps that could help. You can also contact them via Twitter @Allegiant or Facebook. Here is the link for the online chat option: https://www.allegiantair.com/contactus

Yes we cancelled within the 7 day window without trip flex (supposed to fly out Friday) and we were given a voucher. It will explain exactly what you’ll get back online before you confirm your cancellation.

Jarrod West

March 15, 2020

Hi Megan,

Here is the announcement Allegiant made regarding changes an cancellations.

“We understand the decision to travel is personal and many factors are involved. To help, we’ve made it easier for you to change or cancel itineraries with no penalties. Changes and cancellations can now be made directly by visiting Manage Travel

For cancellations, a voucher for the full amount of the current itinerary will be issued for future travel on Allegiant. Vouchers must be used to purchase and complete travel within one year of the original booking date.”

June 25, 2022

I am in a similar situation for using a wheelchair and oxygen, but I am traveling with my disabled daughter as well. So I booked new tickets with dates we had to change to and I figured it would be easy to get a refund for previously purchased tickets. I am outraged at the insensitivity of this airline and will never fly on it again.

March 20, 2020

How do you get vouchers when a rental car was added? Seems to be impossible Thur manage travel and no one ever answers the phone! So frustrating!!!!

Jarrod West

March 20, 2020

Hi Jason,

Did you pay for the rental car in advance? If so then that figure should have been included in your voucher or been refunded to your credit card. I know it is next to impossible to get ahold of Allegiant phone agents right now, but you will have to keep trying in order to get the situation corrected.

Julie

April 25, 2022

Allegiant is going to go out of business if something doesn’t change!! There’s no reason they can’t refund the money. Especially with very advanced notice. Let’s spread the word so people go to a better airline!

I need to cancel my trip (round trip to Los Vegas) Due to a family situation I can not go. I have traveled for years with Allegiant from Shreveport, LA with never a complaint. I want my charges returned to my bank ASAP. I have tried calling many times only to get a busy line and holding at least 30 to 40 minutes at different times a day. Please honor my request for a refund (I purchased Flex trip). Please notify me as soon as possible upon receiving this message and when I can expect my refund. I don’t want to ask my bank to look into this matter!!

Hi Linda,
I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble canceling your flight, however, we aren’t Allegiant Airlines so I can’t help you. If you’re not having luck calling them I would suggest trying a live chat or email. You can find all of Allegiant’s contact info here: https://www.allegiantair.com/contactus

Jarrod West

Hi Kim,

Unfortunately, this is the only information that Allegiant has put out at this time, and since we do not represent Allegiant, I do not have any other recourse for you. I know this is an extremely frustrating situation for everyone trying to make changes to their travels, and hopefully, the wait times begin to shorten soon.

We bought tickets for 2 kids and their friend (3 teenagers) to join us on vacation next week, but we aren’t going. Are the vouchers going to be in the traveler’s name, or do they send one voucher for the full amount in the name of the purchaser? The kid’s friend isn’t going to be able to travel with us when we go next time.

Jarrod West

March 29, 2020

Hi LM,

Usually, Allegiant issues the voucher in the travelers’ name and can only be used by the person it was issued to. But, given the situation, you could try and request that they make an exception.

Karen

April 06, 2020

I don’t want a voucher. I need my cash because I’m going to be laid off due to corona virus. I’ll never use the voucher. This was a one time deal to go on vacation with cousins and I need my money!! They’re more than happy to take it from my bank account. This is awful.

linda d seeley

April 09, 2020

I do not want a voucher. I did not cancel the flight, they did. I can’t go on a trip within 1 year. So, do they do keep the money? It’s just awful. With the virus, exceptions should be made.

Brent Farrell

April 08, 2020

If I cancel my booking and get credited with a voucher and re-book because it’s cheaper now, and this coronavirus is going on, I can’t cancel again?

Jarrod West

April 09, 2020

Hi Brent,

Usually, vouchers from Allegiant are non-refundable, but if you book a flight in the future and the travel industry is still being affected by COVID-19, then they might make an exception to this rule. But there is no way to know for certain.

Hey, I am disappointed. I have 2 canceled flights due to COVID pandemic. I need the money back. I don’t need a voucher.

Nicole Brooks

May 12, 2020

I am upset. Carnival canceled our cruise. Therefore we don’t need plane tickets. They will not refund our money. Only voucher. Vouchers we don’t want, don’t need, and won’t use. Under the pandemic, there should be exceptions. We had our documentation from Carnival.

Hi,

I canceled my itinerary and the voucher is issued in myAllegient. Now, I want to apply my voucher, it does not accept the email address. It shows “The email address does not match with the given email address”!
Could you please advise me how I can fix this problem.

Jarrod West

June 08, 2020

Hi Saba,

I recommend you contact Allegiant directly for assistance with this as it is likely an IT issue that only they can solve. Their contact number is 1-702-505-8888.

Candice Singleton

July 01, 2020

I was issued a refund for my vouchers, I was told it would take 5-7 days to get money back on same card I used originally to purchase the tickets. It was all wonderful until I needed the call and realized I no longer have that card and it has since been canceled! Now what?

Jarrod West

July 01, 2020

Hi Candice,

In this situation, I recommend you call the bank that issued your card. If the refund was accepted then they should have a credit on file for you, and can arrange a way to make sure you receive that credit.

Michael Thomas Veno

July 06, 2020

I have tried to call customer service numerous times, waited forever, still can’t get in touch. I wanted to get my money back for a flight booked from Portsmith to Punta Gorda. We are not welcomed by family for the visit, because of Covid 19, and we would have to quarantine ourselves, so we couldn’t keep our reservation because NE has shut down again.
Instead of refunding our money, as any honest company would during these Covid 19 times, this airline reverts to vouchers holding our money, and us on a fixed income, retired person, totally appalling.

Darla Ewing

November 09, 2020

I have a flight coming up on the nineteenth and I need to change the return date will there be a fee?

Jarrod West

November 09, 2020

Hi Darla,

If you purchased Trip Flex then Allegiant will not charge you a change fee, otherwise, they charge a change fee of $75.

Elina

March 04, 2021

1. If I change dates because I bought the flex option, and then if I have to cancel or change the dates again, would I receive a voucher to use during the year?

2. What if I have excess money on the voucher because the dates I changed to are cheaper? So will I use 2 vouchers for a future trip in case of cancellation?

3. How many times can I cancel or change the date with the flex bundle?

Jarrod West

March 29, 2021

Hi Elina,

1. Yes, you should receive a voucher.

2. Allegiant does not allow for residual value on vouchers. So if you use the voucher on a cheaper flight you will lose what is left.

3. Allegiant does not appear to publish any information regarding that on their website, so I recommend you contact them directly for the exact answer to that question.

Thanks for reading!

We had a pretty serious issue come to our family (won’t go into details). I scheduled a flight for my daughter and I to get up north. Unfortunately, I’m a teacher and my schedule for going back has been moved up a week. I can no longer go up north-but my daughter can. Do I bother cancelling my ticket and get charged a fee or just not bother? My daughter is on my reservation and will be going without me.

Jarrod West

July 08, 2021

Hi Kaw,

If the ticket was worth more than $75 then it might be worth canceling and paying the $75 cancelation fee in order to receive a travel voucher for the remaining funds. If your ticket was less than $75 then I definitely would not both canceling.

I booked an Allegiant flight for 2 friends and I am not accompanying them. I used my Allegiant account to do this. I have never booked flights for someone else. Allegiant did not ask their address, just name and gender and date of birth. Now trying to get through to Allegiant at 1 pm EST, the wait is supposed to be 2+ hours and the Live Chat does not work — at 1 o’clock in the afternoon! Do you think what I did is going to fly? Will they be able to get on the plane with no trouble?

Jarrod! I’m attempting to cancel a flight 10 days in the future. The instructions on the web suck! Nowhere on the allegiant app

Hi Ben,

If the Allegiant website and mobile app are not giving you the option to cancel, then your only other recourse is to call the Allegiant customer service line.

dimntgirl

October 25, 2022

For the last several days, wait time for the customer service line (and this is supposed to be a ‘dedicated’ line for cardholders) has been 90+ minutes minimum. Not very good customer service. Only use this airline if you feel certain you will not have any life issues or changes. To try to actually talk with someone is time-consuming and frustrating. We’ve also had problems with the website not responding and booking double accidently. This is not acceptable! It’s a good way to make a cheap trip, just beware of possible problems.
