Whether you’re a road warrior who feels like you live at airports or an occasional traveler who doesn’t want the hassle of having to arrange logistics to airports, you’ve undoubtedly seen airport hotels.

When peering off into the distance gazing at the hotel near or in your favorite home airport, you’re probably wondering, “Is this hotel nice?” If you’re flying internationally, it’s usually a good idea to incorporate an airport hotel stay into the beginning/end of your trip.

For example, if you have an important international flight departing early in the morning, you don’t want to leave anything to chance, whether it’s a minor Uber fender bender causing you to miss your flight or just sheer distance from the city center to the airport.

By staying at an airport hotel before your international flight, you’ll effectively work a safety buffer into your vacation, so that you don’t miss that Emirates first class or Cathay Pacific first class flight you’ve been looking forward to.

In this guide, we’ll be discussing the top airport hotels in the U.S. We’re going to touch on the key features of each property, along with average pricing, pros, and cons. Let’s get started.

What Are the Characteristics of a Great Airport Hotel?

Airport hotels inevitably appeal to a fundamentally different group of travelers than resorts or even city hotels do. When you travel to an airport hotel, you’ll primarily see 3 personas:

  • Business travelers spending the night close to a hotel
  • Leisure travelers looking for a hassle-free experience to make sure they make it to their flight
  • Business or leisure travelers who want to get some rest immediately after a long flight

As you can probably tell, the things that these travelers are looking for in an airport hotel are going to be drastically different than honeymooners staying in a beach resort. Overall, here are the guidelines on which our best airport hotels are ranked:

  • Comfort factor of room and bed
  • Proximity to the airport (within versus near)
  • Quality hotel dining
  • Price
  • Amenities and facilities
  • Service
  • Ability to redeem points

The 25 Best Airport Hotels in the U.S.

We’ve done a ton of research to aggregate, rank, and present all of the most fantastic airport hotels in the U.S. One thing you’ll notice is that the best hotels tend to be located at the busiest airports in the U.S.

There are a variety of excellent hotels in the U.S. to choose from, and the best part is that most of these are points hotels! Specifically, they belong to renowned hotel brands such as Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Radisson Hotels, and more.

Let’s take a look at the top airport hotels and see just how good they can get.

1. Grand Hyatt at SFO (San Francisco International Airport)

Grand Hyatt SFO
Grand Hyatt SFO. Image Credit: FlySFO

The Grand Hyatt at SFO is one of the newest and best airport hotels in the U.S. This property opened in October 2019, and it’s definitely the nicest hotel at San Francisco International Airport. Best of all, it’s the only on-airport property.

This particular hotel cost $237 million to build and consists of 351 rooms and 22 suites. It is directly connected to all of SFO’s terminals and it even has its own AirTrain station. From a convenience standpoint, it’s unbeatable. It even has views directly of the airport, apron, and runway (subject to additional upgrade charges).

Also, there are 2 eateries, an all-day dining restaurant, and a market/bar concept. Furthermore, the hotel has its own club lounge called the Grand Club. This brand new hotel is perfectly built and has a price tag that matches its city’s reputation for being expensive.

This particular property is a Category 5 World of Hyatt hotel, which means you can’t use the Category 1-4 free night certificate that you get just for holding The World of Hyatt Credit Card. A free night will cost 20,000 World of Hyatt points, and cash rates can range from $200 to $600, depending on seasonality and occupancy.

2. Grand Hyatt DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport)

Grand Hyatt DFW
Grand Hyatt DFW. Image Credit: Hyatt

The Grand Hyatt DFW is a mainstay for travelers at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. This in-airport hotel is conveniently located in Terminal D, and it also has a dedicated Skylink transit station.

The rooms themselves are completely soundproof, and the convenience is top-notch. In addition to the 298 rooms, there are 19 suites, along with 3 eateries. The eateries offer gourmet dining options, including a sushi bar.

There’s a rooftop pool, a 24-hour gym, a business center, and even 34,000 square feet of event space. Rooms have views of the DFW airport runway, and the reviews tend to be glistening with positivity.

The airport hotel’s design and engineering take the traveler into account — one who wants a restful night of sleep, good food options, convenience to DFW, and the option to work out at the gym, get a treatment at the spa, or enjoy a dip in the pool.

The Grand Hyatt DFW belongs to World of Hyatt’s Category 5, so it’ll cost 20,000 points per night at this property. Paid rates range from $150 to $550 per night.

3. TWA Hotel (John F. Kennedy International Airport)

TWA Hotel
TWA Hotel. Image Credit: TWA Hotel

The TWA Hotel is one of the most hyped airport hotels of all time. Located in New York City’s JFK airport, this airport hotel features stylish and retro rooms that highlight the nostalgia of the commercial aviation scene of the 1960s.

This hotel is exceedingly chic, and it was formerly the TWA flight center. TWA stands for Trans World Airlines, which was a major U.S. airline until it was acquired by American Airlines in late 2001.

The eccentric red themes of the former Big 4 airline persist today, and they’ve been revived in the form of the TWA Hotel at JFK. Each of the rooms has fully soundproofed floor-to-ceiling windows, along with comfortable beds and fully-stocked mini-bars.

There’s also a rooftop pool with epic views of the JFK runway ideal for plane spotting. There’s also a gargantuan gym, measuring 10,000 square feet in size. This hotel is an absolute must-visit for aviation geeks, as it is replete with TWA memorabilia.

There’s a food hall, pool bar, Intelligentsia Coffee lounge, Sunken Lounge, Connie Cocktail Lounge, and even a Paris Cafe by celebrity chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten (the mastermind behind the food at Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills).

There are over 500 hotel rooms and 16 different room/suite categories. For basic rooms, you’re going to pay anywhere from $200 to $400 per night. Unfortunately, you can’t redeem hotel points, but you can always use transferable points like Chase Ultimate Rewards points to book a stay at a fixed rate of 1.5 cents per point if you hold the Chase Sapphire Reserve®.

4. The Venetian Las Vegas (Harry Reid International Airport)

The Venetian® Las Vegas
The Venetian® Las Vegas. Image Credit: IHG

The Venetian Las Vegas is a somewhat unexpected member of this list. Las Vegas’s airport is called Harry Reid International Airport, but it’s incredibly close to the Las Vegas Strip. In this case, the Venetian Las Vegas is only 3 miles from the airport, and it’s one of the icons of Las Vegas.

This resort features suite-only rooms with soaking tubs, over double the space of the normal Vegas Strip hotel, free valet parking, 20 restaurants, bars, lounges, a nightclub, a theater, and even a wax museum. Furthermore, the internal area resembles Venice, which means you can ride in artificial canals via gondola rides if you’re tired of the 10 outdoor pools and spa.

Although the property is owned by Las Vegas Sands, it is part of the IHG loyalty program, which means you can redeem points for stays here. The Venetian Las Vegas is a top-tier Category 13 IHG property, which means you’ll be able to book stays here for 70,000 IHG points per night. It’s not a great idea to book using points because cash rates during the low season can be as low as $115 per night!

This property isn’t located within the airport, but it’s close enough to the airport to count as an airport hotel. There are tons of things to do here, and you’ll be able to quickly and conveniently get to the airport when you say at The Venetian Las Vegas. Best of all, rooms can be super cheap due to the seasonality of Las Vegas tourism.

There’s a complimentary airport shuttle, a heated outdoor pool, a rooftop deck with airport views, 24-hour gym, and free breakfast. This airport hotel is loved by aviation geeks because you can get some perfect plane-spotting pictures.

This means that sometimes you’ll be able to use your anniversary Free Night Award that you get for holding the Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card or the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card, as it is good for 1 night up to 35,000 points.

Depending on the dates you stay, you can see paid rates from $150-$400 per night.

Remember that since this is a Category 4 hotel, you can use your World of Hyatt Category 1-4 certificate for a free stay here.
