Marriott International is the largest hotel chain in the world, with over 8,700 properties in more than 130 countries.

The chain has over 30 brands in its portfolio, including luxury names like Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, JW Marriott, and Westin. However, it also includes well-known everyday brands like Courtyard by Marriott, Four Points by Sheraton, and Residence Inn by Marriott.

In addition to its massive hotel portfolio, the hotel chain also boasts a fully established loyalty program, Marriott Bonvoy. The program has several popular co-branded credit cards that make earning and redeeming Marriott Bonvoy points easy.

Here’s an in-depth look at the various co-branded Marriott Bonvoy credit cards available and the rules that determine if you are eligible for one.

Marriott Bonvoy offers 6 co-branded credit cards for new applicants. American Express and Chase each issue 3 co-branded cards.

Application Rules for Co-Branded Marriott Bonvoy Credit Cards

Amex Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Pool Check Upgraded Points LLC 2
There are many rules in place that determine if you are eligible for another co-branded Marriott Bonvoy card. Image Credit: Upgraded Points

With so many desirable co-branded Marriott Bonvoy credit cards to choose from, it makes sense that someone may want to carry multiple cards. However, with 2 different issuers providing these various cards, there are a few rules in place.

Eligibility for the various co-branded Marriott Bonvoy cards is based on several factors, including whether you have held (or currently hold) certain other cards and whether you’ve applied for other Marriott cards in the past 30 or 90 days.

With many of the cards, the application rules do not restrict applying or carrying more than 1 co-branded card at a time. The rules are more in place for those seeking welcome bonus offers on different co-branded cards.

However, it is also important to note that each issuer also has its own card application rules that you must be aware of. These include Chase’s 5/24 rule and Amex’s once-per-lifetime-per-card welcome offer rule.

Here are the application eligibility restrictions for each co-branded Marriott Bonvoy credit card that is available to new applicants.

Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Card

To be eligible for the welcome offer on the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card, an applicant must not have previously had it or the Starwood Preferred Guest® American Express Luxury Card (which is no longer available to new applicants).

The welcome offer is not available to applicants if they:

  • Have or have had the Ritz-Carlton Rewards® Card or The Ritz-Carlton Credit Card from JPMorgan (both of which are no longer available to new applicants) within the last 30 days
  • Have acquired the Marriott Bountiful card, the Marriott Boundless card, or the Marriott Bold card within the last 90 days
  • Received a new welcome bonus offer or upgrade offer on the Marriott Bountiful card, the Marriott Boundless card, or the Marriott Bold card within the last 24 months

Marriott Bonvoy Bevy Card

To be eligible for the welcome offer on the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy card, an applicant must not have or have had this card or the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card.
