The AAdvantage Globe card‘s welcome bonus is: Earn 90,000 AAdvantage bonus miles after spending $5,000 within the first 4 months of account opening.. We value AAdvantage miles at 1.4 cents per mile, so the credit is worth about $1260 toward flights, upgrades, and other expenses with American Airlines. The welcome offer could cover a flight to Asia, Europe, Australia, or South America in first or business class.

Hot Tip:

2. Up to 6x Miles on Purchases

The AAdvantage Globe card earns the most on AAdvantage Hotels bookings at a rate of 6x miles.

You can earn 3x on American Airlines purchases, 2x at restaurants (including takeout and delivery), 2x on rides and rail purchases (including taxis, ride-shares, and public transit), and 1x miles on all other purchases.

3. Loyalty Points on Every Purchase

Every purchase on your AAdvantage Globe card earns 1 Loyalty Point per $1. Loyalty Points determine your elite status level with American Airlines. You can achieve AAdvantage Gold (Oneworld Ruby) at 40,000 Loyalty Points, or reach top-level Executive Platinum status (Oneworld Emerald) at 200,000 Loyalty Points.

AAdvantage status offers perks including free checked bags, complimentary seat selections, upgrades, priority check-in, and more, depending on your status level.

4. Bonus Loyalty Points With a Flight Streak

The AAdvantage Globe card rewards cardholders with a Flight Streak. For every 4 qualifying American Airlines flights you take each status qualification year, you’ll earn 5,000 bonus Loyalty Points. You can earn up to 15,000 additional Loyalty Points each status qualification year, so you could max out at 12 American Airlines flights each year.

Redeeming Rewards

5. Book American Airlines Flights, Upgrades, and More

You can use the miles you earn on the AAdvantage Globe card for American Airlines flights, seat upgrades, and vacation packages. American Airlines award redemptions start at 7,500 miles for one-way domestic flights in Main Cabin. Premium cabin redemptions and international partner flights may offer more value.

6. Book Oneworld Partner Flights

AAdvantage miles can be used to book travel with Oneworld and other American Airlines partners, including British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Etihad Airways, and Hawaiian Airlines. That makes it possible to fly to nearly any destination served by Oneworld or its partners using your miles.

For example, you can redeem AAdvantage miles for Qatar Airways Qsuite business class to the Middle East or Asia, or book award flights to Europe on British Airways.

Travel Credits

7. Up to $100 for Inflight Purchases Annually

Each year, AAdvantage Globe cardholders get up to $100 in statement credits for inflight purchases on American Airlines and American Eagle flights. Included expenses are food, drinks, and Wi-Fi. This credit is easy to use, and the reimbursement happens automatically on your statement after eligible purchases.

8. Up to $240 Annually in Turo Credits

Cardholders get up to $30 per statement period for Turo car rentals, up to $240 total annually. These monthly credits are modest, but they can reduce the cost of renting a car when you travel.

9. $100 Annual Splurge Credit

You’ll get up to $100 in Splurge Credit for select purchases each calendar year. You can choose up to 2 options from eligible AAdvantage Hotels bookings, 1stDibs, Future Personal Training, and Live Nation. It’s similar to the Citi Strata Elite℠ Card Splurge Credit, but for a smaller amount and fewer options.

Since the Splurge Credit is per calendar year, applying for the card and using your credit by the end of the year can maximize your first-year value.

10. Up to $120 for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck

Streamline your airport security experience with up to $120 in statement credits every 4 years toward the cost of Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fees. Global Entry includes PreCheck, so that’s the better option if you have a passport and want to save time in security and customs lines.

Hot Tip:

If you already have Global Entry or TSA PreCheck with another credit card, you can use your credit for a friend or family member. The credit applies to anyone you pay for.

Flight and Lounge Benefits

11. Free First Checked Bag

You and up to 8 traveling companions on the same reservation can check your first bag free on domestic American Airlines flights. This can save you up to $35 per person per trip, which adds up quickly if you’re a frequent traveler.

Hot Tip:

Checked bag savings add up fast. Fly round-trip twice a year with a partner, and this perk alone can save you up to $280 annually.

12. Priority Boarding on American Airlines Flights

Get priority Group 5 boarding for you and up to 8 traveling companions on the same reservation. You’ll board earlier than most passengers and have extra time to find overhead bin space and settle in before takeoff. This benefit is especially helpful on full flights when overhead storage space fills quickly.

13. Admirals Club Lounge Access

Every calendar year, you’ll receive 4 Admirals Club Globe passes, which are valid at nearly 50 Admirals Club lounges worldwide.

With the Globe designation, you’re guaranteed lounge access even when a lounge typically limits entry. While the AAdvantage Executive World Elite card offers unlimited complimentary Admirals Club access for cardholders, it doesn’t provide the Globe designation for greater assurance that you’ll get access to the lounge, even when it’s busy.

Each pass is valid for 24 hours, so you can use your pass at multiple locations in a day. You can bring guests, but you’ll have to use one of your passes for each adult. Up to 3 children under 18 can enter the lounge without using a pass as long as you enter with a pass.

14. Annual Companion Certificate

Each year after your card renewal, you’ll get a companion certificate. This certificate allows you to book a companion ticket for a single round-trip qualifying domestic flight in Main Cabin for $99 plus taxes and fees. The companion certificate can help you save hundreds on last-minute domestic flights when fares are high, especially around holidays.

Hot Tip:

Travel and Shopping Protection Benefits

15. Trip Cancellation and Interruption Protection

With trip cancellation and interruption benefits, you may be eligible for reimbursement for nonrefundable travel expenses paid with your AAdvantage Globe card if your trip is canceled or interrupted due to a covered loss.

16. Trip Delay Coverage

If you’d paid for travel with your AAdvantage Globe card and you’re delayed for more than 6 hours due to a covered loss, you can be reimbursed for covered expenses, such as meals and accommodations, during the delay.

17. Lost or Damaged Luggage Protection

You may be covered for loss or damage to your checked or carry-on luggage and items within if you paid for your booking with your AAdvantage Globe card. However, this benefit doesn’t cover baggage delays.

18. MasterRental Car Rental Coverage

You’re covered for damage and theft to rental vehicles if you decline the rental car’s coverage and charge the full vehicle rental cost to your AAdvantage Globe card. The policy provides secondary coverage in the U.S., but it’s primary outside of your country of residence.

19. Extended Warranty

Purchase items with your AAdvantage Globe card, and you can double the length of a covered purchase’s original manufacturer’s warranty or store warranty for up to 24 additional months.

20. Purchase Assurance Plus

You’re covered for up to 120 days from the date of purchase for items you’ve paid for with your AAdvantage Globe card. You can be reimbursed for repair or replacement costs for stolen or damaged items within the covered period.

21. No Foreign Transaction Fees

There are no foreign transaction fees, so you can use your card for purchases abroad without paying the typical 3% foreign transaction fee. If you spend $2,000 on an overseas trip, that would save you $60 in foreign transaction fees.

22. World Legend Mastercard Privileges

The AAdvantage Globe card is 1 of only 2 World Legend Mastercards available in the U.S. (the other is the Citi Strata Elite card). With a World Legend Mastercard, you’ll get 24/7 concierge service, identity theft protection, exclusive access to priority restaurant reservations, premium event ticketing, and more.

Final Thoughts

American Airlines frequent flyers can get impressive value from the AAdvantage Globe card. With a fantastic introductory welcome offer, 6x earnings on AAdvantage Hotels, and Globe-designated Admirals Club passes, this card is a good option for earning significant rewards with American Airlines and premium travel comfort.

Thanks to lounge access, annual credits, and travel protections, this card is a well-rounded alternative to other premium travel cards, especially if you regularly fly with American Airlines. Maximize the card’s perks, and you can easily outpace the annual fee.

While the AAdvantage Globe card offers standout value for American Airlines loyalists, more casual travelers may prefer the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard®, which has a  $0 intro annual fee, then $99 after the first year, and offers preferred boarding, a free checked bag for the cardholder and up to 4 traveling companions, and a 25% statement credit for inflight food and beverage purchases.
