Lufthansa is offering a status match to those with ITA Airways elite status. While many U.S.-based readers may not be eligible, this is nevertheless a very interesting opportunity.

Let’s take a look at the details.

Lufthansa Miles&More Status Match

While ITA Airways is currently a member of SkyTeam, that won’t be the case for long. Next year, the carrier will join the Star Alliance — and it appears that Lufthansa is already making preparations for customers.

As reported on Italian blog The Flight Club, qualifying members can match their ITA Airways Volare elite status to the Lufthansa Miles&More program.

Those who’ve qualified for ITA Airways elite status can match all the way up to Miles&More Senator status, which is nothing to sneeze at.

ITA Airways has been running its own status match promotion from eligible airlines for years. While many of us have taken advantage of it, it’s important to note that anyone who used that status match to earn status will not be eligible for this promotion.

Instead, status must have been earned, either through spending on its co-branded American Express card or via actual flying.

Here are a few other things to know:

  • Promotion valid from April 22 to June 10, 2025
  • Must have qualified for status in the 2024 calendar year
  • Status is valid through February 2026

To find this promotion, log in to your ITA Airways Volare account. While no one on our team was targeted, you should see a new menu for your status match within your account. Note that you must link your 2 accounts before the match can be done.

The match you’ll receive will depend on your elite status level with ITA:

  • Club Plus: Matches to Miles&More Frequent Traveller
  • Club Premium or Club Executive: Matches to Miles&More Senator

Is It Worth It?

We’re not sure how many of our readers will be able to take advantage of this promotion, considering its eligibility requirements. However, if you are, it’s a pretty sweet deal.

Frequent Traveller elite status grants Star Alliance Silver status, which means you’ll get both priority reservation waitlists and priority standby access. That’s not much, but it’s something.

It’s at Senator status where the real benefits kick in. Senator status grants you Star Alliance Gold status, which includes benefits such as Gold Track security, an extra checked bag, priority boarding, airport lounge access, priority baggage handling, and priority airport check-in.

And since Lufthansa elite status isn’t from the U.S., Star Alliance Gold status also means you’ll be able to access United Club lounges even when flying domestically.

Final Thoughts

Lufthansa Miles&More is offering a status match to those with qualifying ITA Airways Volare status. Depending on your ITA status level, you can match up to Senator status, which grants you valuable Star Alliance Gold benefits.
