The following redemptions are some of the best ways to use your ANA Mileage Club miles. Where are you flying?

1. Fly Round-Trip in ANA Business Class to Japan Starting at 100,000 Miles

Flights between the U.S. and Japan cost 105,000 miles round-trip in ANA business class during the regular season but can go as low as 100,000 miles during the low season and 110,000 miles during the high season. Flights on partners always cost 110,000 miles in business class.

First class awards require 150,000 Mileage Club miles during the low season, 170,000 miles during the regular season and 200,000 miles during the high season.

Here are the dates for low, regular and high season award flights departing from North America as defined by ANA:

Though you were previously able to book roundtrip business class with ANA for as low as 75,000 miles before the April 2024 devaluation, the current redemption is still better than many alternatives. Many frequent flyer programs start award flights to Japan at 70,000 miles round-trip in economy, just to give you an idea of how valuable ANA miles can be compared to other airline loyalty programs.

When you’re looking up award space on ANA’s site, some awards can show up as wait-listed. This means that these flights cannot be booked at the moment but may become available down the road.

2. Fly From North America to Asia Starting at 105,000 Miles in Business Class During Low Season

ANA breaks up Asia into 4 distinct zones. Japan is in Zone 1. Zone 2 includes Russia 1 (mainly eastern Russia) and South Korea. Zone 3 (Asia 1) includes China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Philippines. Zone 4 (Asia 2) features most of Southeast Asia and South Asia, including Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and India. It also includes most of Central Asia.

From the U.S., award pricing depends on which zone you are flying to. For example, a round-trip business class ticket between North America (Zone 6) and Asia 1 (Zone 3) costs 105,000 miles during low season when flying only on ANA-operated flights.

Meanwhile, a round-trip business class ticket to Asia 2 (Zone 4) costs 125,000 miles during the low season. This represents immense value, as it means you can fly from North America to almost anywhere ANA flies in Asia for 125,000 miles or less in business class.

It’s important to remember that this pricing is strictly for ANA-operated flights. If you need to fly a partner airline to get to a destination, look at ANA’s partner award chart to determine pricing. Usually, pricing on ANA-operated flights is less than flying on partners.

3. Fly From North America to Europe in Business Class for 100,000 Miles Round-Trip

Another excellent way to redeem ANA miles is for Star Alliance partner awards between North America (Zone 6) and Europe (Zone 7). Since ANA does not operate flights between North America and Europe, you need to look at its partner award chart.

You can fly round-trip between the zones for 55,000 miles in economy, 100,000 miles in business class, and 165,000 miles in first class. This is an outstanding redemption rate, especially in business class.

You have a wide selection of airlines that fly between the 2 regions, including Air Canada, United Airlines, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, and LOT Polish Airlines. You must be mindful of which airlines you choose to fly, as some partner airlines, such as Lufthansa or SWISS, have high fuel surcharges.

4. Fly From the U.S. to South America for 96,000 Miles Round-Trip in Business Class

This is another of ANA’s sweet spots for business class award travel on its Star Alliance partners. Many award charts divide South America into 2 distinct regions: northern South America and southern South America. However, ANA does not, placing the entire continent in 1 zone. This opens up incredible redemptions!

You can fly business class anywhere in Central and South America (Zone 9) from North America for just 96,000 miles round-trip.

This means that you can fly from New York (JFK) to Bogota (BOG), and it will be priced the same as a significantly longer itinerary, like Los Angeles (LAX) to Rio de Janeiro (GIG).

You also have a few options regarding what airline you choose to fly, including United Airlines, Copa Airlines, and Avianca. Best of all, fuel surcharges are relatively low on these airlines.

Economy redemptions price at 60,000 miles round-trip, which is another good redemption if you want to save a few miles.

5. Fly Within Japan Starting at 5,000 Miles Each Way

Flying within Japan gives you the unique ability to redeem your ANA miles for one-way tickets, as most other redemptions with ANA require round-trip bookings.

ANA has a separate award chart for domestic Japanese flights. One-way flights within Japan start at 5,000 miles during the low season, but the actual redemption rates are based on the season and the distance between cities. Blackout dates apply to some departure and arrival cities. It’s also important to note that the mileage cost for these award flights within Japan that depart on or after October 27, 2024, has gone up, with the lowest cost now 6,000 miles.

It’s important to note that when 2 one-way trips are booked, they each cost the number of miles for the distance and season of each leg. However, when 2 one-ways are booked as part of an open-jaw trip, the mileage is calculated based on the distance and season of the total trip.

For example, a one-way ticket from Tokyo Haneda (HND) to Miyako (MMY) in economy comes to 10,000 miles, or 20,000 miles round-trip. However, going through Okinawa (OKA) and adding a multiday stopover each way also comes to 20,000 miles.

Bottom Line:

ANA has a separate award chart for intra-Japan flights. This is another excellent way to redeem ANA miles.

6. Fly Within Africa and the Middle East for 35,000 Miles Round-Trip in Economy

Although this is more of a specialty use of ANA miles, it is still worth mentioning. Flights between Africa and the Middle East can be booked for as few as 35,000 miles round-trip in economy.

This is an excellent use of ANA miles, as flights within Africa can be costly. At times, you can expect to pay upward of $1,000 for a round-trip flight within the continent.

These redemptions can be made on Star Alliance partners like South African, Ethiopian, and Egypt Air.

7. Fly Between North America and Australia or New Zealand From 105,000 Miles Round-Trip in ANA Business Class

Another great redemption is for those wanting to fly to Oceania from North America. If you depart from one of the North American cities that ANA flies to, you can score great award flights to Australia in ANA business class.

During the low season, you can fly in economy class for 60,000 Mileage Club miles, business class for 130,000 miles, or first class for 210,000 miles.

What’s great about this redemption is that it includes 2 long-haul flights in each direction. You can also have a stopover in Tokyo before heading to Australia or New Zealand!

8. Fly Between North America and India From 125,000 Miles Round-Trip in ANA Business Class

Again, this kind of booking applies to U.S. cities serviced by ANA. For 100,000 miles in the low season, you can fly between the U.S. and Asia 2 (Zone 4) in ANA business class. This includes destinations such as India.

Best of all, since ANA allows stopovers, you can visit multiple destinations for the price of 1! Flying in business class to Japan and India sounds like a good deal!

Economy awards require 55,000 miles round-trip during the low season, 65,000 miles during the regular season, and 70,000 miles during the high season.

9. Fly From North America to Japan for 110,000 Miles Round-Trip in Business Class on a Star Alliance Partner

If you want to fly to Japan on a Star Alliance partner of ANA, you can do so with ANA miles. Although award pricing is slightly higher than on ANA, the Mileage Club program still offers the lowest redemption rates on round-trip flights operated by Star Alliance partners between North America and Japan.

A Star Alliance partner award requires 50,000 miles in economy class, 110,000 miles in business class, and 170,000 in first class.

You can fly airlines such as United Airlines, which features its Polaris business class on many long-haul flights to Japan.

10. Book Singapore Airlines Premium Cabins on Flights Within Asia From 55,000 Miles Round-Trip

An excellent way to fly throughout Asia in business class is on Star Alliance partner Singapore Airlines.

First, let’s take a look at the ANA award chart for flights operated by ANA. For awards operated by ANA, award pricing depends on which season you are flying in (low, regular, or high). Award pricing is lowest during the low season and highest in the high season.

ANA’s award chart is quite extensive but easy to understand. It’s important to remember that this is the award chart for ANA-operated flights. Here are the award charts for flights between Japan (Zone 1) and Zones 2, 3 and 4 (the rest of Asia).

To find the number of miles you need, simply visit ANA’s award chart website and find the starting and ending zone. Then choose your class of service (economy, premium economy, business or first class) and the season of your travel (low, regular or high).

Remember, the chart above is only for flights operated and flown by ANA. The ANA award chart for partner airlines is separate but, thankfully, more straightforward. Pricing still varies by departure and destination zones and the class of service. However, there is no seasonal pricing for ANA partner awards.

ANA also has one separate award chart for Round the World itineraries on all Star Alliance member airlines. The Round the World chart is priced according to the total distance flown and class of service. If you have mixed cabins, prices depend on the highest class of travel in the itinerary.

ANA requires round-trip bookings on all award redemptions except for flights wholly within Japan. However, the program does allow for stopovers and open-jaws on its award bookings.

Awards Bookable Online or by Phone

The ANA Airlines award search engine is among the best available for Star Alliance, as it can search every Star Alliance partner. For now, not all non-Star Alliance partners can be searched on ANA’s site.

Generally, any itinerary with searchable partners on ANA’s site should be bookable online. If you are booking on a non-Star Alliance partner that doesn’t appear on ANA’s site, you can call to book and ask ANA to waive the telephone booking fee.

Award Redemption Rules

The following are the terms and conditions for award redemptions, as per ANA.

When booking on ANA-operated flights:

• Travel is only permitted on ANA-operated flights.
• Awards must be booked for round-trip travel, except flights within Japan.
• 1 stopover is permitted.
• 2 open-jaws are permitted.

• Awards must be booked for round-trip travel.
• 1 stopover is permitted.

When bookings are on non-Star Alliance partners:

• Travel is only permitted on 1 partner airline.
• Awards must be booked for round-trip travel.
• 1 stopover is permitted.
• 2 open-jaws are permitted.

When booking around-the-world awards:

• Must travel in only 1 direction (eastward or westward).
• Cannot return to origin country in less than 10 days.
• Up to 8 stopovers are permitted (only 3 in Europe and 4 in Japan).
• Not allowed to use an open-jaw in North America, South America, or Latin America.
