Let’s dig into what both of these cards can offer you.

Chase Marriott Rewards Credit Cards

The Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus Credit Card can help you earn plenty of Marriott Rewards points. This can be especially useful if you would prefer to transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to other partners.

With this card, you’ll earn 6X points per dollar spent on all purchases at Marriott and Starwood hotels. You’ll also earn 2X points per dollar on all other purchases.

See below in the table for the current sign up bonus. Just make sure to meet the required minimum spending threshold to get it!

💳 Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus Credit Card
  • Limited Time Offer! Earn 100,000 Bonus Points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
  • Free Night Award (valued up to 35,000 points) every year after account anniversary.
  • Earn 6 points per $1 spent at participating Marriott Rewards & SPG hotels.
  • Annual Fee: $95

This card doesn’t have any foreign transaction fees (like many other cards) — and has an $95 annual fee.

Marriott Rewards® Premier Business Credit Card

If you have a small business, the Marriott Rewards® Premier Business Credit Card might be just the ticket to some free hotel nights and a way to earn Gold elite status with Marriott Rewards.

Like the personal version of the card, you will earn 5X points per dollar spent at Marriott and Starwood hotel properties. You will earn 2X points per dollar spent on airline tickets bought directly from airlines.

Additionally, you will earn 2X points per dollar spent at restaurants, office supply stores, car rental agencies, and on cable, internet, and phone service purchases. All other purchases will earn 1X points per dollar spent.

The sign-up bonus for the Marriott Rewards® Premier Business Credit Card is often similar to the personal version at around 80,000 Marriott Rewards points. There will also be a minimum spending requirement to earn this sign-up bonus. The offer varies, so check the details of the offer at the time of application.

One key difference between this card and the Marriott Rewards® Premier Credit Card is that you can earn Gold Elite Status with Marriott Rewards by spending $50,000 during your account year. Your account year starts when you open the account and ends after 12 statements.

This card does not incur foreign transaction fees and has a $99 annual fee.

Earn Elite Status Nights

Both cards come with 15 nights toward elite status when you are approved for the card (except for 2018, where the Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus Credit Card will grant silver status but not elite night credits for 2018 only).

Additionally, you will receive these 15 nights each year you maintain the account. These 15 nights are enough to automatically earn you Silver elite status with Marriott Rewards, and you’ll be well on your way to Gold status.

Elite Status LevelNights Required
Silver10 Nights
Gold50 Nights
Platinum75 Nights

The only significant difference between being a regular member and having Silver elite status is the 20% bonus points earned on your paid stays with Marriott. Once you reach Gold status, you’ll receive benefits such as lounge access, complimentary upgrades (when available), 4 pm late check-out, and more.

Annual Free Night Certificate

You will also receive a free night certificate after you have reached your account anniversary.

For the personal card, the certificate can be used at any proporty that is 35,000 points/night or less.

For the business card, the certificate can be used at any Category 1-5 Marriott property. You will have 1 year from the date of issuance to book your free night.

If you’re looking for a fun way to use your free night certificate, you’ll often find the best value at a Category 5 Marriott hotel such as The JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa in Vietnam. It’s a fantastic resort where you can relax and enjoy some great food.

Travel Protections

Like many other Chase credit cards, the Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus Credit Card and the Marriott Rewards® Premier Business Credit Card come with a number of travel protections.

With trip delay insurance, you will be eligible for up to $500 in reimbursement if your flight is delayed by 12 hours or the delay forces you to stay overnight. Reimbursable expenses include hotel costs, meals, ground transportation to and from the airport, and more. Make sure you confirm what is covered under the terms and conditions before making a purchase with your card.

If you arrive at your destination but your bag is delayed by at least 6 hours, you can also be reimbursed up to $100 per day for 5 days for essential purchases like toiletries and clothes. In the unfortunate event that your bags are lost, whether checked or carry-on, you can count on $3,000 in coverage per passenger.

Marriott Travel Packages

Marriott has travel packages that allow you to redeem Marriott Rewards points for free nights and frequent flyer miles. There are several versions of the Hotel + Air packages that each contain different airline options.

How many miles you earn will be determined by the number of Marriott Rewards points you use. Additionally, the Marriott points required are determined by the category under which a hotel falls. You can also book packages with Ritz-Carlton, and the points required are based on the hotel tier.

Marriott Hotel + Air Package
You can earn tons of United miles by booking one of Marriott’s Hotel + Air packages.

The RewardsPlus Hotel + Air Package allows you to earn United MileagePlus miles. Depending on the package, you can earn up to 132,000 United miles. This is one of the more popular ways to use a Hotel + Air Package.

Marriott Hotel + Air Package 1 and 2
You could earn 120,000 Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles by using 270,000 Marriott Rewards points to book a 7-night stay at a Category 1-5 hotel.

You aren’t limited to earning United miles though. You can also earn up to 120,000 miles (or Avios) with 12 airlines or up to 85,000 miles with another 24 airlines. This can be a great way to book a vacation and earn a ton of Alaska miles on top of it. In fact, the 120,000 Alaska miles you would earn are enough to book a round-trip award to Australia on Cathay Pacific in business class.

Marriott Hotel + Air Package 3 and 4
Another popular way to redeem a travel package is to book your hotel stay and choose to receive Southwest Rapid Rewards points.

Another popular Hotel + Air Package gets you a Marriott hotel stay and 120,000 Southwest Rapid Rewards points. If you have the Southwest Companion Pass, this is an excellent way to book your hotels and earn some more Rapid Rewards points that can take you and a companion on all kinds of adventures.

Can you have more than 1 co-branded Marriott Rewards credit card?

Yes, you can have both the personal and business version of this card at the same time.
