The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card launched on November 9, 2021, coming well-stocked with premium benefits for a reasonable $395 annual fee. The card has been around for nearly 5 years now, so it’s to be expected that certain benefits may have changed or evolved during that time.

In this article, we take a look back at the card benefits from 2021 and how things have evolved, then compare them to what the card offers today in 2026.

Capital One Venture X Card Benefits: 2021 to 2026

Although some of the benefits have changed since its launch, the $395 has remained static — for now. The Capital One Venture X card offers ample benefits that can get you nearly $8,000 in value, including a 10,000-mile bonus each year on your account anniversary, a $300 annual credit for Capital One Travel, and access to the luxurious Capital One Lounges.

Below, we’ll compare the card’s perks throughout the past 5 years.

2021: Launch

When the Capital One Venture X card launched in November 2021, it shook up the market by offering premium benefits for a lower annual fee than competitors, such as its $300 Capital One Travel credit and a 10,000-mile gift each year upon renewal.

The card debuted with a generous welcome offer of 100,000 miles after members hit the spending threshold, and the terms were simple: You were eligible for the bonus if you hadn’t gotten it for this card within 48 months.

The card’s lounge access was a coveted perk, as primary cardholders could bring in unlimited guests to Capital One Lounges and Priority Pass Lounges. Meanwhile, up to 4 authorized users could get their own lounge access benefits for both Priority Pass and Capital One Lounges. Although there was only 1 Capital One Lounge when the card launched (the Capital One Lounge at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport), more were on the way. Priority Pass membership included nonlounge experiences, like access and discounts at restaurants and spas.

Aside from lounge access, cardholders also had flexible redemption options for their miles, including the ability to transfer Capital One miles to numerous transfer partners, erase travel charges from their statement, or book travel through Capital One Travel (these options remain in 2026).

2023: Lounge Restrictions and New Lounges

The card stayed fairly static for a couple of years until January 1, 2023. On this date, Capital One removed access to nonlounge Priority Pass experiences. This meant that cardholders couldn’t use their Priority Pass benefit to access nap rooms, airport restaurants, spas, or other similar amenities. Since then, Priority Pass benefits on this card have focused only on lounges.

By the end of 2023, Capital One had 3 airport lounges: the Capital One Lounge at DFW, the Capital One Lounge at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), and the Capital One Lounge at Denver International Airport (DEN).

2024: Capital One Landing Launches

During 2024, the card’s benefits remained the same.

Toward the end of the year, Capital One partnered with the José Andrés Group to launch Capital One Landing, a food-centered lounge concept (Source: Capital One). The first Capital One Landing was in Terminal 2 of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).

2025: Lounge Restrictions, New Lounge Openings, and Family Rule

In 2025, the card underwent some changes. As of March 1, 2025, the Capital One Venture X card would no longer have direct access to Plaza Premium Lounges, though some were still accessible through Priority Pass. The Capital One Lounge at John F. Kennedy International Airport [JFK] in New York opened on June 19, 2025.

Later in the year, Capital One launched its family rule. Starting in October 2025, all 3 personal card products within the Venture family (the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, the Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card, and the Capital One Venture X card) share a 48-month bonus restriction.

The restrictions were tiered, and though the bonus eligibility stayed the same on the Capital One Venture X card, if you already got the bonus on that card, you’d now be ineligible for a bonus on the Capital One Venture card or the Capital One VentureOne card (hence the family concept).

If you don’t have any cards in the Venture family, it might be best to start with the entry-level cards and work your way up to the Capital Venture X card. This way, you could earn all 3 welcome bonuses, assuming you waited 48 months between each. Once you get the welcome offer bonus on the Capital One Venture X card, you won’t be able to get bonuses on the less premium cards.

2026: Lounge Access Overhaul and New Lounge Opening

The most substantial change to the Capital One Venture X card occurred in early 2026, when Capital One significantly reduced lounge access benefits for cardholders.

As of February 1, 2026, cardholders can no longer automatically bring guests into Priority Pass lounges, Capital One Lounges, or Capital One Landing locations.

By spending $75,000 annually on the card, cardholders can bring 1 guest per visit to a Capital One Landing or 2 guests per visit to a Capital One Lounge (valid for the year in which they complete the requirement and the following year). Otherwise, they have to pay a $45 fee per adult or a $25 fee for children ages 2 to 17.

When it comes to bringing guests into Priority Pass lounges, cardholders can’t bring them in for free; instead, they have to pay $35 per guest.

Cardholders can still add up to 4 authorized users without paying an annual fee, but each authorized user costs $125 to receive lounge privileges (Priority Pass, Capital One Lounge, and Capital One Landing, sans guests, unless the $75,000 spending threshold has been met).

Some positive lounge news happened on February 18, 2026, when the new Capital One Landing at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) opened.

2027 and Beyond: Lounges Are Coming

We can’t say what might happen in 2027 and beyond, but Capital One’s competitors, such as American Express and Chase, have been steadily increasing the fees for their most premium cards — all while reducing lounge benefits, though many statement credits and lifestyle benefits have been added.

The simplicity of the Capital One Venture X card’s earning structure (2x on all purchases, with a few Capital One Travel bonus categories) is one of the things we love most about the card, along with its reasonable annual fee. Only time will tell if this earning structure will change.

One thing is fairly certain, though: Capital One will continue expanding its lounge portfolio into 2027 and beyond. The Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) Capital One Lounge is under construction, and we hope it’ll open by late 2027. It’ll be the issuer’s largest lounge at 14,000 square feet.

Final Thoughts

The Capital One Venture X card has evolved since its inception nearly 5 years ago. Some of the changes have been positive, such as new lounges opening, while lounge access restrictions and the limiting of authorized user benefits have been a deal-breaker for some.

Whether you’re never letting go of your Capital One Venture X card, adding authorized users despite restrictions, getting rid of the card, or considering applying for it, it’s worth knowing that between the 10,000 bonus anniversary miles and the $300 travel credit, it’s easy to offset the annual fee of $395, which is relatively low compared to competitors’ cards.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the hidden perks of the Capital One Venture X card?

The Capital One Venture X card offers many popular benefits, but lesser-known perks include cell phone protection, Hertz President’s Circle status, and car rental coverage.

What are the lounge access restrictions in 2026 on the Capital One Venture X card?

In February 2026, Capital One reduced lounge access for Capital One Venture X cardholders. Since then, cardholders can’t bring in guests without paying an additional fee or meeting a spend threshold. Authorized users on the card also don’t get lounge benefits unless the primary cardholder pays $125 per user (and they still can’t bring in guests, unless the spend threshold is met). For more specifics, refer to the 2026 lounge restriction changes section of this article.

Is the Capital One Venture X card worth it?

The Capital One Venture X card is definitely worth it, mainly because the annual fee is fairly low for a premium card and easy to offset if you take advantage of the card’s top benefits, such as the $300 Capital One Travel credit and the 10,000 bonus miles you get after your card renews each year.

What are the downsides of the Capital One Venture X card?

The downsides of the Capital One Venture X card are that it doesn’t offer elevated bonus earnings on purchases made outside of Capital One Travel. However, it does get 2x on all purchases, even though it doesn’t offer additional miles for restaurants, supermarkets, gas, or general travel purchases.
