Why Would You Want to Earn 100k ThankYou Points?

Earning 100,000 ThankYou Points is within your grasp but what would you do with all those points once you earned them? Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to redeem ThankYou Points for maximum value!

Let’s start with the fact that there are over a dozen airline partners that allow you to make direct transfers to their loyalty programs. You can also redeem ThankYou Points for flights booked through the Citi Travel Center but be aware that this is not the best way to redeem those hard-earned points.

You can also shop with points at places like and or use your points for purchases from other travel and retail partners, but those are terrible uses of your points.

Travel is the by far a more valuable option. More specifically, transferring points to one of the Citi ThankYou Points airline partners is the best option.

1. Apply for Citi ThankYou Points Credit Cards

Depending on the Citi card, you may qualify to earn bonus points just for signing up.

Previous sign-up bonuses between 15,000 and 75,000 points were given after cardholders met the minimum spend requirement within their first 3 months of having the card. Often this requirement was to spend between $3,000 and $4,000.

Keep in mind that you are not eligible for the sign-up bonus from a Citi ThankYou Points card if you have opened or closed any of these 3 cards in the last 24 months. It can take up to 8 weeks for bonus points to be added to your balance once they’ve been earned.

2. Maximize Bonus Categories to Boost Your Earning

The quickest way to earn points steadily is by using the credit cards to make purchases on a regular basis. The minimum number of points you will earn for purchases is 1X point per dollar. Each card also has bonus categories like dining, entertainment, etc. that can earn anywhere from 1 – 5X points per dollar.

Here’s a breakdown of the bonus categories for each card:

Gas Stations1x3x1x
Car Rental Agencies1x3x1x

The Citi Prestige® Card has several bonus categories, and it also offers great perks such as a Priority Pass membership and an annual $250 airfare credit. This card is definitely the one for you if you want to earn ThankYou Points and want perks from a high-end credit card.

The Citi ThankYou® Premier Card really excels with its broad travel bonus category. Unlike the vast majority of travel rewards cards, it earns 3X points per dollar at gas stations!

And best of all, as long as your account is current, your points will never expire!

  1. Hi, have a quick question if I have a citi thank you account and would like to transfer points to someone else who doesn’t have any citi credit card or checking account, is it possible that person can still register a thank you account and I can then use points sharing to send to them ?

    • Stephen Au May 27, 2019

      Hey Amy,

Unfortunately, the other person will need to have a Citi ThankYou account, checking account, or credit card in order to be eligbile for points sharing. Thanks for reading.

  2. Do you have a link for the Citi Premier offer of 60,000 no annual fee first year?

I think this post is inaccurate, the annual fee is NOT waived.

(It was waived for an old offer of 50,000 points).

If you’re writing a blog, you need to double-check your facts!

    • Hi Mackenzie,

We have updated the chart on the post to the correct offer. As you know, credit card offers can change sporadically. Our team here at Upgraded Points works incredibly hard to deliver great content and keep that great content as up to date as possible. We have close to 1,000 pieces of content available to readers on our website so, unfortunately, things can fall through the cracks at times. But we are very grateful to have loyal readers like yourself who point out when updates need to be made.

So thanks again for pointing out that update and thanks for reading!
