Delta Air Lines opened its first-ever Sky Club at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) in North Carolina in 2024. For years, CLT stood out as the only top 10 U.S. airport by passenger volume without a Delta Sky Club, making the addition a long-awaited one.

Although CLT is a stronghold for American Airlines, Delta still operates several flights to nearby Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and other key bases. In recent years, Delta has continually expanded its Sky Club network — often adding second or even third locations at major hubs — so I was curious to see how the experience and novelty would compare at an airport lounge that wasn’t at a Delta hub.

Here’s what my recent travel experience was like visiting Charlotte’s one and only Delta Sky Club in October 2025.

1. It’s in CLT’s New Concourse A

Charlotte Douglas International Airport looked noticeably different from my last visit a few years ago, with a brighter, more spacious terminal lobby that debuted just weeks before my recent visit. As CLT is a staunch American Airlines hub, I had only ever flown AA out of Charlotte.

In September 2024, the airport completed a 200,000-square-foot expansion of Concourse A, adding 10 new gates — 7 of which were designated for Delta.

Delta Gates CLT Airport
Salvaged MD-82 tail weighing more than 5,000 pounds.

Naturally, the new Delta Sky Club followed shortly after, opening in December 2024 near this cluster of Delta gates. This location is super convenient, on the mezzanine of Concourse A.

Delta A Gates CLT
The lounge is near gates A32-A39.

There was clear signage throughout the concourse that made the Sky Club easy to find, with an escalator leading directly up to the entrance, which was visible even from the ground floor.

Delta Sky Club CLT Second Floor
Easy to find.

The convenience here is hard to beat for Delta travelers. Since all of Delta’s flights from Charlotte are domestic — and no SkyTeam partners operate international routes from this hub — you’ll never have to worry about a long trek to reach the lounge.

Hot Tip:

There’s also an Amex Centurion Lounge at CLT available to some American Express cardmembers, though this location gets crowded and often has long lines. It can take 15 to 20 minutes to get from the Centurion Lounge between Terminals D and E and the Delta gates, so you’re better off visiting the Sky Club instead when visiting airport lounges at CLT.

2. It’s Less Busy Than Other Sky Clubs, Even on a Busy Day

Have you ever visited a Delta Sky Club (or any airport lounge, for that matter) that had such a long line that you skipped it altogether? That’s not an issue here. Not only is the Sky Club convenient to all of Delta’s gates, making it easy to check the crowd for yourself before heading in, but the lounge isn’t busy at all — or at least it wasn’t during my visit.

Delta Sky Club CLT Gate Proximity
Spacious new concourse.

I visited on a Sunday afternoon — typically one of the busiest air travel days — and there was no line, something that would be an anomaly in Atlanta or another major hub. In fact, the lounge was, at most, a quarter full.

The Delta Sky Club at CLT is just over 14,000 square feet and can accommodate 246 guests.

3. There Are Many Designated Areas for Business Travelers

There was no shortage of seating in the Delta Sky Club at CLT, but what stood out most to me was how thoughtfully it catered to business travelers. There was only 1 couch in the whole space, close to the entrance of the lounge.

Delta Sky Club CLT Entrance
Most of the seating consisted of smaller tables.

I immediately saw a soundproof phone booth just to the right of the entrance.

First of many phone booths I saw.

Stepping into this space further, I saw a designated quiet area that was an office-like workspace ideal for productivity.

Delta Sky Club CLT High Top
Office at the airport.

Here, I found high-top chairs, individual pod-style seats, and a long, communal desk. There was also another soundproof booth that was ADA-compliant (not pictured).

Delta Sky Club CLT Business Pod
Only 1 business traveler was in the space during my visit.

Along the wall, there were more individual pods that were partially open, giving the vibe of privacy from neighbors.

Delta Sky Club CLT Booths
More pods.

But that wasn’t all. When I returned to the main area and walked down the long hallway, I glanced across to the opposite side of the Sky Club. From this mezzanine, I could look down at the gates and travelers below.

Across the way, there were 4 more soundproof booths and additional seating designed for solo travelers.

The rest of the Delta Sky Club seating was perfect for couples, families, and group travelers, with more space to spread out.

The airfield views were definitely an added bonus, so try to grab a window seat for a front-row look at one of the busiest airport operations in the country.

4. Food and Drinks Were Delicious

The real highlight, however, was the food and beverage selection. For a smaller Delta Sky Club, the bar was impressively spacious and beautifully designed, offering 14 seats — and it was easily the lounge’s most popular gathering spot.

Delta Sky Club CLT Main Bar
Designed for the Queen City.

Guests could have a complimentary selection of beer, wine, and classic cocktails, while premium spirits, fine wines, and signature drinks were available for purchase with cash or SkyMiles.

Delta Sky Club CLT Bar
The most buzzy spot.

The main buffet housed hot and cold food selections, which the staff readily restocked throughout my hour-long visit.

Delta Sky Club CLT Buffet
Life hack: Grab dinner from the Delta Sky Club before a 4-hour flight.

Several items were the same on both sides of the buffet to help maintain a smoother flow of guests. For instance, identical selections of salads, charcuterie, and sandwiches were available.

Delta Sky Club CLT Cold Food
Cheese and crackers galore.

However, the hot food was only on one side of the buffet. This may have been the first time I’ve ever had chicken wings (and really good ones, at that) at an airport lounge. Despite the tag description, they weren’t as spicy as suggested, and I added my own Buffalo sauce on the side.

Delta Sky Club CLT Wings Rice
I hope they have the wings next time I visit.

The rest of the buffet offerings were similar to those found in other Delta Sky Club locations, which are generally of good quality compared to other airline lounges. If the banana pudding is there during your visit, you won’t want to miss it. Spoiler alert: It was delicious and perfectly portioned.

Banana pudding … in an airport lounge!

There were 2 massive beverage stations, one right next to the buffet and the other closer to the bar. I liked the variety, with a soda machine featuring Coke products, unsweet and sweet tea (this is the South, after all), sparkling and still water on tap, and an espresso machine.

The other beverage station near the bar seemed to have nearly identical offerings, but there was a seasonal surprise.

Delta Sky Club CLT Coffee Bar
Nearly identical upon first look.

Hot apple cider was available with a few garnishes, and I loved how it tied perfectly into the fall theme during my early October visit.

5. There Are No Shower Suites at the Delta Sky Club CLT

The men’s and women’s restrooms are to the left of the bar. They are spacious, stylish, and consistent with the Sky Club’s Queen City theme.

Delta Sky Club CLT Bathroom Exterior
Spacious bathrooms.

One thing to note, however, is that this location does not feature shower suites, an amenity commonly but not necessarily always found in many of Delta’s other Sky Clubs.

Delta Sky Club CLT Bathroom Sinks
No shower suites, though it makes sense for this location.

To me, it makes sense that this Sky Club doesn’t include shower facilities, but it is something to note for future guests. If you’re in need of an airport shower, the Amex Centurion Lounge at CLT features 2 shower rooms.

Since Delta’s operations out of CLT are exclusively domestic, its flights aren’t long enough to warrant them. I was flying home to Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) after a long weekend in North Carolina for a wedding, and most Delta passengers here are connecting through major hubs like Atlanta (ATL), New York Kennedy (JFK), or Boston (BOS), where they can continue on to longer domestic or international routes. Delta Sky Clubs in major hubs should all feature shower suites.

6. How To Access Delta Sky Club CLT

At this location, guests can simply scan their boarding pass at the entrance to verify eligibility. For those who need assistance, there are 2 agents stationed at the front desk to help confirm access and answer any questions.

Delta Sky Club CLT Doors
Verify your access here.

There are several ways to gain access to the Delta Sky Club at CLT (and other lounges across the network):

  • Delta Sky Club memberships with a same-day boarding pass on Delta or another partner airline in Main Cabin or above.
    • The Individual Membership costs $695 or 69,500 SkyMiles per year and provides complimentary access to Delta Sky Clubs for the member.
    • The Executive Membership costs $1,495 or 149,500 SkyMiles annually and includes entry for the member plus immediate family (spouse and children under 21) or up to 2 guests.
  • Eligible business class or first class fare: Travelers flying on any Delta One itinerary receive Sky Club access, including on connecting flights. Passengers holding an international first or business class ticket on a SkyTeam-operated flight are also eligible for entry.
  • SkyTeam Elite Plus status: Members must be traveling on an international flight (in any cabin) or on a SkyTeam domestic flight connecting to or from a same-day international flight.
  • Delta SkyMiles Gold, Platinum, or Diamond Medallion status: Members must be flying on a Delta Premium Select or Delta One ticket and can bring a complimentary guest.

However, the easiest way to access Delta Sky Clubs is to hold certain premium American Express cards. Depending on the card you have, you receive a set number of visits per calendar year.

The Platinum Card® from American Express and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express are our favorite luxury travel cards, as they offer the most comprehensive lounge access. Both cardholders get 10 visits per year to Delta Sky Clubs when flying Delta the same day. To unlock unlimited visits, they must spend at least $75,000 annually on the cards.

Final Thoughts

The Delta Sky Club at CLT made a good impression on me during my short visit, so I’ll make sure to stay longer next time. This was easily one of the nicest Delta Sky Clubs I’ve visited in recent years, and it was refreshing to see the airline invest in such a beautiful space at an airport that wasn’t a hub.

Hopefully, Delta keeps up this momentum by expanding or renovating older lounges that are starting to feel dated, like many in its main hub at Atlanta or its North Carolina neighbor, Raleigh-Durham (RDU).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an Amex lounge at CLT?

Yes, there is an Amex Centurion Lounge at CLT between terminals D and E. As of December 2024, there is also a Delta Sky Club in Concourse A.

If you have an Amex Platinum card or Amex Business Platinum card, you can also enter Delta Sky Clubs with up to 10 annual visits if you hold a same-day, nonbasic economy Delta ticket. If you have a Delta Reserve card or Delta Reserve Business card, you can enter Delta Sky Clubs with up to 15 annual visits, also with a same-day, nonbasic economy Delta ticket.

Which terminal is Delta at Charlotte Airport?

Delta operates out of Concourse A at gates A30 to A39.

Can I pay for Delta Sky Club access at CLT?

No, Delta discontinued single-visit Sky Club passes in 2018. If you don’t have a Delta lounge membership, an eligible boarding pass, or an Amex Platinum card, Amex Business Platinum card, Delta Reserve card, or Delta Reserve Business card with annual visits, you won’t be able to enter the Delta Sky Club at CLT.

Are there showers at Delta Sky Club CLT?

No, there are no shower suites. While most Delta Sky Club locations have showers, some do not.

What is the 3-hour rule for Delta Sky Club?

You can only access the lounge within 3 hours of your flight’s scheduled departure time, though this restriction does not apply to passengers on connecting flights. Additionally, customers arriving on a Delta flight are permitted lounge access upon arrival.
