Traveling with your pet can make a trip more fun, especially when a hotel makes them feel just as welcome as you are. Some hotels do more than allow pets; they welcome them with beds, treats, and “bone appetit” room-service menus. Many offer pet accommodations with little to no additional fees and participate in hotel loyalty programs, allowing you to earn or redeem points for your stay.

This guide ranks the best pet-friendly hotel brands based on their fees, policies, and pet-friendly amenities.

How We Ranked the Best Pet-Friendly Hotel Brands

We ranked free pet stays at luxury brands the highest, and reasonable per-stay fees next. Also important: pet restrictions, including weight and breed limits, as well as the types and number of pets a hotel brand accepts. Brands that maintain consistency across most properties were preferred, so you know what to expect when traveling with a pet.

The overall hotel experience matters, too. We prioritized luxury accommodations and boutique properties, pet-specific amenities, and suite availability with space for larger pets.

10 Best Pet-Friendly Hotel Brands, Ranked

1. Kimpton Hotels (IHG)

Kimpton has the simplest pet policy: “If your pet fits through the door, we’ll welcome them in.”

Kimpton properties offer boutique accommodations and are often in walkable city destinations. All Kimpton hotels welcome pets without additional fees or deposits, and there aren’t any weight, size, breed, or pet-count restrictions. Dogs, cats, and other pets are welcome, and Kimpton properties typically provide pet amenities such as pet beds, bowls, mats, and waste bags.

2. Virgin Hotels (Virgin Red)

Dogs of any size or breed stay free at almost all Virgin hotels, although there are a few exceptions. Most properties allow up to 2 pets per room, and pet-friendly rooms typically offer dog beds, bowls, and Virgin Hotels bandanas.

3. Thompson Hotels (World of Hyatt)

Thompson hotels feature fashionable guest rooms and elevated dining. Although pet policies (and fees) vary by property, Thompson hotels often have no pet fee, and some properties accommodate dogs of all sizes, generally up to 2 pets per room. Amenities may include dog beds, bowls, and treats.

For example, at Thompson Houston, pets are allowed with no pet fee — though there may be a pet cleaning fee at the hotel’s discretion upon departure.

4. Hyatt Centric (World of Hyatt)

Some Hyatt Centric hotels charge nothing for pets. Other properties charge $75 per stay for up to 6 nights. Most accept up to 2 dogs or cats, but the rules vary by property.

5. Hotel Indigo (IHG)

Hotel Indigo boutique properties have more personality than a typical chain hotel, and typically offer upscale urban accommodations. Most locations have a reasonable flat fee for pets. The pet fee typically ranges from $65 to $100 per stay — usually $75. Many properties allow a maximum of 2 dogs per room, and some accept cats, too.

6. Canopy by Hilton (Hilton Honors)

Canopy by Hilton is a stylish Hilton brand if you want boutique amenities without paying luxury hotel prices. Typically, Canopy properties are pet-friendly for 2 dogs up to 75 pounds, with some properties accepting cats. Pet fees generally range from $50 to $75 per stay, and some properties offer pet amenities such as beds, bowls, and welcome treats.

7. Sheraton Hotels & Resorts (Marriott Bonvoy)

Sheraton‘s pet fees range from free to $150 per stay, depending on the location. Most allow up to 2 dogs per room, and some accept cats.

8. Westin Hotels & Resorts (Marriott Bonvoy)

Westin hotels can be a comfortable, upscale option for pet-friendly rooms. Pet fees aren’t consistent across the brand, ranging from free to $150 per stay, depending on the location. Most properties allow up to 2 dogs per room with a limit of 75 pounds, and some allow cats. Participating properties offer Very Important Pup (VIP) amenities, including food and water bowls with a mat, welcome kits with dog-walking maps and waste bags, and the Westin Heavenly Dog Bed, a smaller version of the brand’s iconic mattress.

9. Andaz Hotels (World of Hyatt)

Andaz properties have stylish accommodations and upscale dining for luxury travelers, and they typically welcome pets. Most Andaz hotels allow dogs and sometimes cats up to 50 pounds, and pet fees generally range from $100 to $150 per stay.

10. Park Hyatt (World of Hyatt)

Park Hyatt guests can find traditional luxury and pet-friendly policies — but you may pay a premium to bring your pet. Most properties allow dogs, but rules, weight limits, and fees vary by location. Typical fees are $150 to $200 per stay, and additional fees may apply for stays longer than 6 or 7 nights.

Hot Tip:

If you plan to bring your pet, tell the hotel when you book your room or by contacting the property. Some hotels have a limited number of pet-friendly rooms, so it’s a good idea to reserve one before arrival. Contacting the hotel also gives you a chance to ask for details on pet policies.

Luxury Hotels That Welcome Pets

Many other luxury hotel brands offer pet-friendly policies, although some pet fees can be pricey:

  • Fairmont Hotels & Resorts: Fairmont properties often have resident lobby dogs and feature pet bedding, walking maps, and “bone appetit” menus.
  • Four Seasons: Dogs and cats are welcome at most Four Seasons locations, though each property sets its own weight limits, fees, and amenities, such as treats or room-service dining for pets.
  • Loews Hotels: With the Loews Loves Pets program, dogs stay for $50 to $200 and receive room service menus, leashes, water bowls, and local dog-walking maps.
  • The Ritz-Carlton: Many locations allow dogs and cats, though weight limits are usually around 40 pounds and fees run from $150 to $300 per stay.
  • W Hotels: Most allow up to 2 dogs per room with fees around $100 (some with an additional cleaning fee), and Pets Are Welcome amenities such as pet beds, bowls, waste bags, and treats.

Midrange and Budget Hotels That Welcome Pets

Midrange and extended-stay hotels can be helpful for longer stays or larger pets that need more room:

  • Candlewood Suites: These hotels are pet-friendly and allow pets to be left unattended in rooms when crated. Check with the property to confirm pet fees and weight limits.
  • Choice Hotels: Sleep Inn, Comfort Inn, and Quality Inn have pet-friendly properties, though fees and policies vary.
  • Element by Westin: These residential studios and suites have kitchens, outdoor spaces, and often have dog beds, bowls, and welcome treats. Pet fees vary, but they are typically $50 per night and capped at $150 per stay.
  • Home2 Suites by Hilton: Designed for extended stays, Home2 Suites have studios and suites with kitchenettes and living areas. Properties welcome dogs and cats, generally up to 2 pets per room, with a $75 fee for stays of up to 4 nights and $125 for stays of 5 nights or longer.
  • Hyatt House: Rooms have living areas and kitchens. Locations typically accept up to 2 dogs, and some allow cats. Pet fees are usually $75 for shorter stays or more for longer visits.

What To Know Before Booking a Pet-Friendly Hotel

Even if you’re booking a pet-friendly hotel, confirm these policies first:

  • Pet fees: Hotels may charge per night or per stay, and some charge higher rates for longer stays. A flat $100 fee might be reasonable for a 4-night stay but steep for a single night. Pet fees typically still apply to award stays, though some hotels don’t charge pet fees at all.
  • Pet restrictions: Confirm the hotel’s policy on weight limits, the number of pets allowed, and whether it accepts cats or other animals.
  • Pet-friendly rooms: Some hotels designate specific rooms or floors for pets, so you may not get your preferred room or suite.
  • Unattended pets: Some hotels allow you to leave quiet, crated pets alone for short periods, but others don’t allow pets to be left unattended for any length of time.
Hot Tip:

Service animals are considered working animals, not pets, under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Hotels can’t apply pet restrictions or fees to qualifying service animals.

Final Thoughts

Several hotel brands — from luxury to midrange and extended-stay properties — have pet-friendly policies and reasonable fees. Kimpton has no pet fees, and dogs stay free at almost all Virgin hotels. Thompson often waives fees, too.

Other upscale brands have pet amenities, but fees vary by brand and property. For larger pets or longer stays, midrange or extended-stay hotels may offer more room and better value.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which hotels allow pets to stay for free?

All Kimpton hotels welcome pets of all sizes and breeds without pet fees, and most Virgin and Thompson hotels allow dogs to stay free of charge.

Which hotels are best for large dogs?

Hotels without weight limits are the best for large dogs. Kimpton is one of the best choices because it doesn’t have size or breed restrictions, and many Virgin hotels allow dogs of all sizes.

Can you book a pet-friendly room with points?

It’s possible to book a room at a pet friendly hotel with points, as many participate in loyalty programs such as Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors, World of Hyatt, and IHG One Rewards. Although you can book award nights with points, pet fees are an additional charge.

Can pets be left alone in a hotel room?

Whether a pet can be left unattended depends on the hotel’s policy. Some properties allow pets to be unattended if they are crated and quiet, but others don’t allow pets to be left alone at all.

Are there hotel pet fees for service animals?

No, hotels can’t charge pet fees for qualifying service animals. Under the ADA, service animals are not considered pets. However, guests can be held responsible for damage caused by service animals.
