The Virgin Red loyalty program launched in the U.S. in 2021, giving travelers even more ways to earn and spend Virgin Points. However, while Virgin Red may sound similar to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, there are notable differences.

Here’s what you need to know about the Virgin Red loyalty program.

Virgin Red Overview

Virgin Red members can earn and redeem Virgin Points across the Virgin family. Like points earned with Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Virgin Points earned with Virgin Red can be redeemed for flights, hotels, cruises, and travel experiences.

Unlike Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, there are no elite tiers or anything you need to do to earn or keep status.

Joining Virgin Red

Joining Virgin Red is pretty straightforward. You simply register for an account by filling out a form on the Virgin website.

If you’re a new Flying Club member, you’re automatically enrolled in the separate Virgin Red program. Otherwise, you need to make your own Virgin Red account.

How To Sign In to Your Virgin Red Account

Signing in to your Virgin Red account is simple — you just need to have the email you registered with on hand. You receive a security code to your email each time you log in. Copy and paste that into the box and you’ll be in your account quickly.

Viewing Your Account Activity

To see your account activity, you’ll need to follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Click the icon in the top right corner of the page.
  3. Click Activity.

Points Expiration

Your Virgin Points never expire as long as you’re a member with an account.

How To Earn Virgin Points

The easiest way to earn Virgin Points is by shopping with online merchants, on flights with Virgin partners, and with credit card transfer partners.

Online Shopping

Virgin Red earn points

You can earn bonus points at select online merchants, including:

  • Apple: 2 Virgin Points per $1 spent
  • Banana Republic: 2 Virgin Points per $1 spent
  • Bloomingdale’s U.S.: 3 Virgin Points per $1 spent
  • Gap U.S.: 2 Virgin Points per $1 spent
  • Grove Collective: 6 Virgin Points per $1 spent
  • Home Depot: 1 Virgin Point per $1 spent
  • JCPenney: 3 Virgin Points per $1 spent
  • Kind Snacks: 6 Virgin Points per $1 spent
  • Kohl’s: 1 Virgin Point per $1 spent
  • Land’s End: 2 Virgin Points per $1 spent
  • Macy’s: 1 Virgin Point per $1 spent
  • Michael Kors: 1 Virgin Point per $1 spent
  • Nike U.S.: 3 Virgin Points per $1 spent
  • Readly: Earn up to 750 Virgin Points when you subscribe to Readly via Virgin Red
  • Saks Fifth Avenue: 1 Virgin Point per $1 spent
  • Virgin Experiences: 10 Virgin Points per $1 spent
  • Walgreens: 2 Virgin Points per $1 spent

    Hotels

Virgin Red offers many ways to earn points, generally through hotels Virgin founder Richard Branson either owns or has a connection to.

    Necker Island
Have you ever dreamed about visiting the British Virgin Islands? You can book a stay at Branson’s private island. Even better? You’d earn a ton of Virgin Points: 55,000 points per room per 7-night stay.

    Virgin Hotels
If you’re a fan of Virgin Hotels, you’re in luck, as the hotel chain rewards guests for staying in its hotels with Virgin Points. You earn 5 points per $1 on stays in the U.S. (or 7 points per £1 on stays in the U.K.) at participating Virgin Hotels. Make sure to sign up for the Virgin Hotels loyalty program, The Know, and link your Virgin Red account.

    Hot Tip:

You earn even more points at Virgin Hotels London-Shoreditch. Through December 31, 2024, you earn a whopping 14 points per £1 on your stay.

    Mont Rochelle
You can earn 1,500 Virgin Points per night for stays at this South African hotel — and score an upgrade, if available. Make sure to contact Virgin Limited Edition at 877-577-8777 or email enquiries@virginlimitededition.com to confirm rates and availability. Make sure to have your Virgin Red ID or Flying Club number handy. You’ll receive your Virgin Points within 6 weeks of your stay.

    Mahali Mzuri
You can earn 7,000 points per night at this resort in Kenya’s Maasai Mara ecosystem. Like at Mont Rochelle, you can also receive a space-available upgrade.

    Ulusaba Private Game Reserve
Earn 7,000 points per room per night at Ulusaba Private Game Reserve in South Africa.

    Kasbah Tamado
This hotel offers 2,500 points per night when you use your Virgin account number when you book.

In addition to earning points via Virgin Atlantic flights, Virgin Red also partners with Air France, Delta, and KLM.

    Delta

To earn Virgin Points on flights with Delta:

    • Ensure you’re a Virgin Atlantic Flying Club member then link your Flying Club account via the accounts section in Virgin Red.
    • Book flights online directly with Delta. When entering passenger details, remember to add your Flying Club account number — not your SkyMiles number.

The number of points earned depends on the type of ticket you purchased and the distance flown. You’ll see points added to your account within 7 days of your trip.

You earn even more points if you’re an elite Virgin Atlantic Flying Club member. Gold members earn 60% more Virgin Points on flights, while Silver members earn an extra 30%.

    Air France-KLM

You also earn Virgin Points across the Air France-KLM flight network. To be eligible, your flights must be booked with an AF- or KL-marketed flight number (for instance, KL123).

The exact number of Virgin Points earned varies according to the distance flown, but you generally earn more points the farther you fly. Flights under 600 miles earn a fixed amount of points.

    Hot Tip:

Virgin Red and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club are 2 separate programs. However, you can move points between them at a ratio of 1:1.

    Buying Points

Virgin Red lets you purchase Virgin Points, sometimes at a big bonus. It’s pretty easy to buy points. Here are the steps:

    • Visit Virgin Red’s website and sign into your account.
    • Hit the Buy Points button.
    • Follow the instructions to buy Virgin Points.

In most cases, your points should be added to your Virgin Red account within 24 hours. However, it can take up to 7 days in some cases, so if you have a redemption you really want to make, keep that timeline in mind.

You can also see if there are any current bonus or discount promotions to buy Virgin Points through Flying Club.

    Transfer Points

You can also transfer Virgin Points to a friend or loved one, but this option has a $15 fee:

    • Select Transfer Points.
    • Log in to your Virgin Red account.
    • Make sure you have the recipient’s Virgin Red ID handy.
    • Follow the instructions to transfer your Virgin Points.

Your Virgin Points should be added to the recipient’s Virgin Red account within 24 hours, but it can take up to 7 days.

    Credit Cards and Transfer Partners

    Virgin Red Rewards Mastercard

Virgin launched a credit card in 2024 to much fanfare: the Virgin Red Rewards Mastercard®. The card is issued by Synchrony and has a $99 annual fee.

You can earn a welcome bonus offer worth several hundred dollars by meeting the minimum spending requirements. Additionally, you earn 3x points on purchases with Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Hotels, and Virgin Voyages; 2x points on dining, grocery stores, select streaming services, and EV charging; and 1x points on all other eligible purchases.

For a low-fee card, it comes with some pretty solid benefits. You earn a benefit (such as a cabin upgrade on Virgin Atlantic or a bonus night at Virgin Hotels) after spending $15,000 in a year. You earn a second benefit after spending $30,000 in a year. You also earn 5,000 Virgin Points every year you keep the card open.

    Bottom Line:

You can stack rewards and earn even more points when using the Virgin Red card to book a Virgin flight, hotel, or cruise.

    American Express

American Express Membership Rewards is a great way to earn points, since you can transfer Amex points to Virgin Red via Virgin Atlantic.

Other than Virgin, Amex has a solid lineup of excellent hotel and airline transfer partners. Whether you’re a beginner in your points and miles journey or a seasoned pro, we always recommend having some Amex points in your wallet. By putting your everyday spending on the best Amex credit cards, you can easily earn points for your subsequent redemption.

Virgin Atlantic has 2 types of award flights. The first is standard season (the cheapest option):

You can also redeem Virgin Points for partner awards on airlines such as All Nippon Airways, Delta Air Lines, Singapore Airlines, and Air New Zealand. One of our favorite uses for Virgin Points is on ANA’s first class, which costs between 110,000 and 120,000 points round-trip from the U.S. to Japan.

    Hotels

You can redeem points at Virgin Hotels in Chicago, Dallas, London, Nashville, New Orleans, and New York.

You can also redeem points at Virgin Limited Edition, which includes some of the world’s best retreats, such as Mahali Mzuri in Kenya.

    Cruises

    Virgin Voyages Exterior

Virgin Voyages is a high-end, adults-only cruise line. Think of cruising for people who typically wouldn’t enjoy cruises. Virgin Voyages debuted in 2021 and quickly established itself as one of the best options for cruise travel out there.

You can redeem Virgin Points on Virgin Voyages, though awards are pricey. Right now, the cheapest option is a 4-night cruise from Miami to Key West and Bimini, Bahamas, for 140,000 Virgin Points.

    Virgin Experience Gifts

You can also redeem Virgin Points on gifts and experiences through Virgin Experience Gifts. These include neat experiences such as sunset admission to the Empire State Building in New York, a gondola cruise for 2 in California, and a secret food tour in Austin.

    Other Ways To Redeem Points

You can redeem points on drinks and tickets at AMC Theatres, vouchers for Eurostar trains, or even on Branson’s audiobook. However, we don’t recommend spending your points this way. You get more value redeeming Virgin Points for travel.
