When it comes to travel rewards cards, the Platinum Card® from American Express arguably offers the most card member benefits of all other premium card options.

It is also no secret that American Express and Delta Air Lines have a strong partnership. Not only does American Express issue all of the co-branded Delta credit cards, but holding the Amex Platinum card even grants you 10 visits a year to Delta Sky Clubs when you’re traveling with Delta (plus, the ability to unlock unlimited access with a spend requirement).

Given this partnership, readers often wonder whether their Amex Platinum card grants them any status benefits with Delta — and this article answers just that!

Amex Platinum Card Delta Benefits

To get straight to the point, the answer is no. The Amex Platinum card does not give you automatic Delta Air Lines status, nor does it give you a pathway to earn status with Delta.

There are really only 2 Delta-related benefits on the Amex Platinum card.

As noted above, the first is 10 visits a year to Delta Sky Clubs while traveling on a Delta Air Lines flight.

The second is, if you select Delta as your designated airline for the up to $200 annual airline fee credit, you can use those credits to offset incidental purchases made with Delta like checked bags, seat selection, and more.

Amex Platinum Card Elite Status (Hotel, Car Rental)

While the Amex Platinum card doesn’t offer any type of airline elite status, the good news is it does offer status in multiple hotel and rental car elite programs.

Amex Platinum cardholders receive automatic Hilton Honors Gold status upon enrollment, which offers perks like 80% bonus points, room upgrades, a food and dining credit, and more. You’ll also receive Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status upon enrollment, which includes 25% bonus points, room upgrades, a welcome gift, 2 p.m. late checkout, and more.

On the rental car front, you’ll receive National Emerald Club Executive status, Avis Preferred status, and Hertz President’s Circle status. Each of these status levels can offer discounts, car upgrades, no additional fees, and more (enrollment required).

Final Thoughts

The Amex Platinum card doesn’t offer elite status with Delta, or any other airline for that matter, but it easily offers the most perks and benefits of nearly all travel rewards credit cards. However, unlike typical credit cards, the Amex Platinum card allows you to carry a balance for certain charges, but not all.

That said, if you’re looking for a card to help you earn Delta elite status, you’d be better off opting for one of the co-branded Delta Air Lines cards.
