Chase’s credit cards come with some of the best insurance around, including benefits for rental cars, trip cancellation, and trip protection. Now, Chase has announced that it’ll be updating its benefits provider on October 1, 2024, and the change looks to be an improvement. Let’s check out the details.

Chase Changing Insurance Benefits

Those who are looking to file a claim currently have 3 different websites they’ll need to visit, depending on the issue they’re having. Beginning on October 1, 2024, they’ll instead visit the Chase Card Benefits self-service portal, which will handle all claims.

Along with changing insurance providers, some Chase cardholders will be receiving improved benefits. These include:

  • Travel accident insurance doubling from $250,000 to $500,000 for eligible cards.
  • Rental car insurance will increase to $60,000 for cars with an MSRP of $125,000 or less, plus the notification period will be extended to 100 days rather than 60 days.
  • Eligible cards will get updates for extended warranty protection, changing the benefit from $10,000 per claim and $50,000 over the life of the card to $10,000 per claim and $50,000 per year.
  • Emergency evacuation will be arranged by the insurance provider, rather than having the cardholder do so, pay up front, and submit a claim at a later date.
  • Travel and emergency assistance is being added to additional cards.
  • Lost luggage insurance will be added to additional cards.
Bottom Line:

Cardholders will be emailed with additional details as the date approaches, but overall this is a good move. There have been reports that working with Chase’s existing insurance provider (Eclaimsline) is frustrating, so hopefully the new experience will be better.

Chase’s Complimentary Insurance Benefits

We’ve already noted that Chase has some of the best insurance benefits around, but it bears repeating. Why? Because the benefits you’ll get outstrip the completion, even on its lower-tier cards. For example, the $95-per-year Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card offers a whole suite of travel protections, including:

  • Emergency medical insurance
  • Baggage delay insurance
  • Trip cancellation and interruption insurance
  • Trip delay reimbursement
  • Travel and emergency assistance services
  • Travel accident insurance
  • Emergency evacuation and transportation
  • Primary rental car insurance

Compare this to the travel insurance protections offered by The Platinum Card® from American Express, which charges a $695 annual fee (rates & fees). Although most of the protections are the same, there are a few notable exclusions:

  • No emergency medical insurance
  • No baggage delay insurance
  • Rental car insurance is secondary

Final Thoughts

Chase is updating its insurance provider beginning October 1, 2024. Along with providing a more streamlined approach, Chase is also improving the benefits its offers to cardholders. This includes higher limits on claims and additional benefits on cards, all of which provide more value to cardholders.
