Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts is a familiar brand to road warriors or anyone who has needed an inexpensive yet comfortable place to stay for a night or 2. What you may not know is that it is part of the IHG Hotels & Resorts family of brands, which means you can use IHG One Rewards points to book any Holiday Inn hotel.
Within the Holiday Inn family, there are actually 3 separate brands — Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts, Holiday Inn Express, and Holiday Inn Club Vacations. In this post, we’re just going to focus on which Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts locations offer the best value when booking with points.
When creating this list, we followed a few guidelines:
Hotel room costs can vary throughout the year prices can change at any time. Before booking any hotel with points, you should familiarize yourself with both the cash and points cost so you know when you’re getting a good deal.
Holiday Inn is part of the “Essentials” group of IHG hotels. With over 1,200 locations around the world, Holiday Inn is there when you need an affordable and comfortable place to stay.
Parents traveling with their kids will love Holiday Inn’s kid-friendly policies. Kids stay and eat free at almost every Holiday Inn location worldwide.
The Holiday Inn Kids Stay Free policy allows up to 2 kids to stay for free in a room with up to 2 adults. Cribs are complimentary but there may be an additional charge for a rollaway cot.
The Holiday Inn Kids Eat Free program allows up to 4 kids to dine for free per family or up to 2 kids per parent. This policy applies to breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Kids must order from the kids’ menu and need to be accompanied by at least 1 parent who orders a meal from the full-priced menu.
Age restrictions for the Kids Eat and Stay Free program are as follows:
|Region||Kids Stay Free Age Limit||Kids Eat Free Age Limit|
|U.S., Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Central America, South America||18 and under||11 and under|
|Greater China||12 and under||12 and under|
|Europe||17 and under||12 and under|
|Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa||12 and under||12 and under|
Hot Tip: Holiday Inn hotels are great for families because at most locations kids stay and eat free! For more tips, check out our complete guide to stress-free family travel.
IHG uses dynamic pricing which means the cost of a hotel night in points can vary quite a bit and isn’t necessarily tied to the cash cost of the room. IHG One Rewards points are worth ~0.5 cents each, so you can always do some easy math to figure out if you’re getting good value for your points.
IHG One Rewards points can be earned by staying at IHG properties, using an IHG credit card, or using the IHG Onbe Rewards Dining program. You can also transfer points over from Chase Ultimate Rewards to redeem for stays at any IHG hotel.
If you find yourself staying at IHG properties often you may want to consider having an IHG credit card in your wallet. There are 3 IHG cards currently available.
Earn up to 17x when you stay at IHG hotels, 3x on monthly bills, at gas stations, and restaurants, and 2x on all other purchases.
If you’re someone who is looking to enhance your IHG stays by earning more points and benefits, without paying an annual fee, then the IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card might be the perfect fit for you.
In this guide, we will provide a detailed view of what the card can offer so you can decide if it makes sense to add to your wallet.
The IHG Traveler card is the base level card, but it still comes with elite status — you’ll get Silver Elite status automatically and you’ll earn Gold Elite status after spending $10,000 in a calendar year. This card doesn’t come with many premium benefits, but it could be a good option if you’re looking for a card without an annual fee.
The perfect card for IHG fans, offering a free night every year, automatic Platinum Elite status, and your fourth night free on award stays.
If you regularly visit IHG hotels throughout the year, then the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card is probably a perfect card to have in your wallet.
The IHG Premier card offers a great bundle of perks and benefits, including automatic Platinum elite status, an annual free night certificate, and travel protections.
The top-level card is the IHG Premier card and it comes with some nice benefits that will appeal to IHG loyalists. You can often find a big welcome offer which will help you earn a lot of IHG One Rewards points fast.
The new IHG Premier Business card is a great option for business owners who want IHG status since it comes with Platinum Elite status automatically. Some of the card’s other benefits include:
IHG is a Chase hotel partner which means your Chase points transfer to IHG at a 1:1 ratio. While it’s great to have options, it’s generally not the best way to use your Chase points since they are valued much higher than IHG One Rewards points (Chase points are worth ~2 cents each vs. ~0.5 cents each for IHG One Rewards points).
However, if you need a few extra IHG One Rewards points for a specific redemption, transferring a small amount of Chase points could make sense. In addition, Chase cards offer different bonus categories than IHG cards, making earning points easier, so it often makes sense to have both an Ultimate Rewards-earning card and an IHG card.
Here are our recommended Chase Ultimate Rewards earning cards:

A top player in the high-end premium travel credit card space that earns 3x points on travel and dining while offering top luxury perks.
If you’re looking for an all-around excellent travel rewards card, the Chase Sapphire Reserve® is one of the best options out there.
The card combines elite travel benefits and perks like airport lounge access, with excellent point earning and redemption options. Plus it offers top-notch travel insurance protections to keep you covered whether you’re at home or on the road.
Don’t forget the $300 annual travel credit which really helps to reduce the annual fee!
