Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts is a familiar brand to road warriors or anyone who has needed an inexpensive yet comfortable place to stay for a night or 2. What you may not know is that it is part of the IHG Hotels & Resorts family of brands, which means you can use IHG One Rewards points to book any Holiday Inn hotel.
Within the Holiday Inn family, there are actually 3 separate brands — Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts, Holiday Inn Express, and Holiday Inn Club Vacations. In this post, we’re just going to focus on which Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts locations offer the best value when booking with points.
When creating this list, we followed a few guidelines:
- IHG Rewards points are worth ~0.5 cents each. This list includes locations where the points value exceeds this average.
- Peak travel dates for each location were determined using Google Travel.
- Cash rates were based on the cost of a weekend night during the peak travel season for each destination.
- The cents per point value was determined using the average of the cash cost and average points cost of a room over a 2-month period.
Hotel room costs can vary throughout the year prices can change at any time. Before booking any hotel with points, you should familiarize yourself with both the cash and points cost so you know when you’re getting a good deal.

IHG One Rewards Overview
Holiday Inn is part of the IHG One Rewards loyalty program which means you can earn and use IHG One Rewards points at any Holiday Inn location.
IHG uses dynamic pricing which means the cost of a hotel night in points can vary quite a bit and isn’t necessarily tied to the cash cost of the room. IHG One Rewards points are worth ~0.5 cents each, so you can always do some easy math to figure out if you’re getting good value for your points.
IHG One Rewards points can be earned by staying at IHG properties, using an IHG credit card, or using the IHG Onbe Rewards Dining program. You can also transfer points over from Chase Ultimate Rewards to redeem for stays at any IHG hotel.
IHG Rewards Credit Cards
If you find yourself staying at IHG properties often you may want to consider having an IHG credit card in your wallet. There are 3 IHG cards currently available.
IHG® Rewards Traveler Credit Card
The IHG Traveler card is the base level card, but it still comes with elite status — you’ll get Silver Elite status automatically and you’ll earn Gold Elite status after spending $10,000 in a calendar year. This card doesn’t come with many premium benefits, but it could be a good option if you’re looking for a card without an annual fee.
- Earn up to 17x points per dollar at IHG Hotels & Resorts
- Earn 3x points per dollar on monthly bills, gas stations, and restaurants
- Fourth reward night free
IHG® Rewards Premier Credit Card
The top-level card is the IHG Premier card and it comes with some nice benefits that will appeal to IHG loyalists. You can often find a big welcome bonus which will help you earn a lot of IHG Rewards points fast.
- Earn up to 26 points total per $1 spent when you stay at an IHG hotel
- Earn 5 points per $1 spent on purchases on travel, gas stations, and restaurants.
- Earn 3 points per $1 spent on all other purchases
- Automatic IHG Platinum Elite status
- Yearly anniversary night that can be used at locations costing 40,000 points or less
- Global Entry/TSA PreCheck/Nexus application fee credit (up to $100 value)
IHG® Rewards Premier Business Credit Card
The new IHG Premier Business card is a great option for business owners who want IHG status since it comes with Platinum Elite status automatically. Some of the card’s other benefits include:
- Earn up to 26 points total per $1 spent when you stay at an IHG hotel
- Earn 5 points per $1 spent on travel, hotels, dining, gas, office supply stores, and social media and search engine advertising
- Earn 3 points per $1 spent on all other purchases
- Fourth night free benefit
- Yearly anniversary night worth 40,000 points (that can be topped off with additional points)
- Global Entry/TSA PreCheck/Nexus application fee credit (up to $100 value)
Bottom Line: If you’re after IHG elite status, having the IHG Premier card or IHG Premier Business card is the best option since it comes with automatic Platinum Elite status without any spending requirements.
Chase Ultimate Rewards Credit Cards
IHG is a Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer partner which means your Chase points transfer to IHG at a 1:1 ratio. While it’s great to have options, it’s generally not the best way to use your Chase points since they are valued much higher than IHG One Rewards points (Chase points are worth ~2 cents each vs. ~0.5 cents each for IHG One Rewards points).
However, if you need a few extra IHG One Rewards points for a specific redemption, transferring a small amount of Chase points could make sense. In addition, Chase cards offer different bonus categories than IHG cards, making earning points easier, so it often makes sense to have both an Ultimate Rewards-earning card and an IHG card.
Here are our recommended Chase Ultimate Rewards earning cards:
Bottom Line: Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer directly to IHG, but you’ll get more value out of them by utilizing some of the other transfer partners. However, it’s a great option when you need to top off your IHG account if you’re a few points short of a specific redemption.
