There was a time when the Citi Prestige® Card (no longer available for new applicants) was one of the most coveted premium travel credit cards on the market. While that card is long gone, the Citi Strata Elite℠ Card has stepped in as its successor with a strong lineup of travel perks.

Here is the card’s current welcome offer:

  • Earn 75,000 bonus Points after spending $6,000 in the first 3 months of account opening.

While those points can be redeemed in several ways, I wouldn’t use them for cash-back or gift cards.

As someone who’s spent years booking award travel, my mind immediately goes to lie-flat business class. That’s because 75,000 points can take you a lot farther than you’d think — especially when you transfer them to the right airline partner. Below are a few solid options.

While the card does carry a $595 annual fee, it offers a robust lineup of perks and benefits:

1. Fly Turkish Airlines Business Class to Istanbul (65K Points)

If I had to pick just one redemption from this list, Turkish Airlines would be right near the top.

If I were booking this trip today, I’d specifically target one of Turkish Airlines’ Boeing 787-9s, which operates on select U.S. routes. I flew it once from Chicago to Istanbul, and it left a fantastic impression. Beyond the onboard experience, Türkiye is an incredible destination in its own right and an ideal gateway to Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia.

Award flights between the U.S. and Istanbul start at just 65,000 Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles miles each way in business class. With the easy 1:1 ratio, transferring 65,000 ThankYou Points over to Miles&Smiles is all you need to secure this booking.

Citi’s major competitors, such as American Express Membership Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards, don’t have Turkish Miles&Smiles as a partner, giving ThankYou Points a nice advantage to book these business class flights.

2. Head to Taipei on EVA Air (75K Points)

One of the best ways I’d use 75,000 Citi ThankYou Points is for a one-way business class flight on EVA Air from the West Coast to Taipei. That’s exactly what EVA’s own Infinity MileageLands program charges for its highly regarded Laurel Class, a product many aviation enthusiasts describe as “first class lite” thanks to its excellent catering, attentive service, and comfortable lie-flat seats.

While Infinity MileageLands isn’t the most versatile frequent flyer program and its website is a bit clunky, Citi ThankYou Rewards transfer from premium cards to EVA Air at a 1:1 ratio, allowing you to book a one-way West Coast–Taipei flight in Laurel Class for just 75,000 miles. These tickets regularly sell for well over $3,500 one-way, making this an outstanding redemption.

Even better, EVA releases significantly more business class award seats to its own members than it does to Star Alliance partner programs like Air Canada Aeroplan or Avianca LifeMiles. That makes Infinity MileageLands one of the best ways to secure a very comfortable ride to Asia (or back home) without waiting and hoping partner award space appears.

3. Book Emirates’ Signature Business Class to Bogotá (45K Points)

This might be the most underrated redemption on the entire list. Most travelers think of Emirates as the airline you fly to Dubai, but one of my favorite routes is actually much closer to home.

Emirates operates a fifth-freedom route between Miami and Bogotá, Colombia, giving travelers a chance to experience the airline’s renowned business class without committing to a 14-hour journey.

While Citi ThankYou Points now transfer from premium cards to Emirates Skywards at a 5:4 ratio instead of 1:1, I still think this redemption is well worth considering. A one-way business class award between Miami and Bogotá costs 36,000 Emirates Skywards miles, meaning you’d need to transfer 45,000 Citi ThankYou Points.

In return, you’ll enjoy a fully lie-flat seat, elevated dining, and the polished service Emirates is known for on a relatively short flight. Bogotá also makes a fantastic jumping-off point for exploring Colombia, whether you’re heading to Cartagena, Medellín, or the country’s famous coffee region.

4. Fly to Paris in Air France Business Class (60K Points)

Arguably the most comfortable way to fly to Europe using points and miles is Air France business class.

Its newest business class on the carrier’s Boeing 777-300 aircraft features fully enclosed suites, excellent catering, attentive service, and a sophisticated cabin that feels premium from the moment you step onboard. I’ve flown it several times between Miami and Paris, and it’s become one of my favorite business class products across the Atlantic.

The best part? You can often book it for as little as 60,000 Flying Blue miles one-way and transfer Citi ThankYou Points from premium cards to Flying Blue at a 1:1 ratio.

Considering these flights regularly sell for more than $3,000, it’s one of the best uses of Citi points. And because Air France and KLM serve destinations across Europe, it’s easy to continue onward to cities like Rome, Barcelona, Athens, or Amsterdam on the same award ticket.

5. Upgrade Your Next Domestic Trip With JetBlue Mint (From 49.2K Points)

Not every great business class redemption has to take you halfway around the world. Although JetBlue Mint has expanded to Europe, it’s still one of my favorite ways to fly lie-flat across the U.S., whether from South Florida to San Francisco, New York to Los Angeles, or on longer cross-country routes to Phoenix, Las Vegas, or San Diego.

Award rates can start at just under 50,000 TrueBlue points, and thankfully, you can transfer Citi ThankYou Points from premium cards to JetBlue TrueBlue at a 1:1 ratio.

JetBlue uses dynamic award pricing, so the number of points you’ll need is tied closely to the cash price of the ticket. That means rates can vary significantly depending on the route, date, and demand.

Mint remains one of my favorite premium cabin experiences thanks to its lie-flat seats, private suites on select aircraft, elevated dining, comfortable bedding, and friendly onboard service. It feels much closer to an international business class experience than what most travelers expect from a domestic airline.

6. Book Virgin Atlantic Upper Class to London (From 29K Points)

I’m a sucker for mood lighting, and arguably no airline does it better than Virgin Atlantic. The purple glow throughout the cabin instantly sets a different tone, making the flight feel a little more relaxed and a lot more stylish before you’ve even taken off for London.

Award rates start at just 29,000 Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points one-way to London, and Citi ThankYou Points transfer from premium cards at a 1:1 ratio.

Virgin Upper Class awards
Sure, the taxes and fees are steep, but 29,000 points to London is still a fantastic deal. Image Credit: Virgin Atlantic

While Virgin Atlantic does pass along higher taxes and fees than many airline programs, you’re still getting a great deal considering these business class tickets often sell for several thousand dollars.

If you’re booking this redemption, I’d specifically look for flights operated by Virgin Atlantic’s Airbus A350-1000 or Airbus A330-900neo. Those aircraft feature the airline’s newest Upper Class suites, offering significantly more privacy and a much more modern experience than the older seats found on some of its Boeing 787s and A330-300s.

7. Reach South America in AA Business Class (From 71.5K Points)

One of the biggest reasons I’m excited about the Citi Strata Elite card is that American Airlines AAdvantage is a 1:1 Citi ThankYou Rewards transfer partner when transferring from a card with an annual fee. That makes Citi the only 1 of the 4 major transferable points currencies — American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Capital One Miles, and Citi ThankYou Rewards — that transfers directly to American. If you fly American often, that’s a pretty compelling reason to earn ThankYou Points.

One redemption I’d have my eye on is American Airlines’ Boeing 777-300ER business class deep into South America.

Award rates start at just 71,500 AAdvantage miles one-way to destinations like Buenos Aires (EZE) and Santiago (SCL), where you’ll enjoy a fully lie-flat seat on an overnight flight.

AA Buenos Aires
Put your Citi Strata Elite card’s welcome offer toward a $3,000+ flight. Image Credit: American Airlines

The real appeal of this redemption goes beyond the flight itself. Buenos Aires is an excellent starting point for a trip through Patagonia or even an Antarctic cruise, while Santiago puts you within easy reach of Chilean wine country, the Atacama Desert, or even a short hop to Easter Island if you’ve always wanted to visit one of the world’s most remote destinations.

Cash fares on these routes regularly climb into the thousands, so redeeming 71,500 AAdvantage miles for a lie-flat seat can deliver excellent value. And with Citi now offering 1:1 transfers to American Airlines AAdvantage, it’s easier than ever for ThankYou Rewards cardholders to make this redemption a reality.

Final Thoughts

The 75,000-point welcome offer on the Citi Strata Elite card can unlock some incredible business class trips if you redeem it strategically. Citi ThankYou Rewards deserves a closer look with its solid of airline transfer partners, and your options go well beyond the 7 examples here. These points can take you just about anywhere, from Europe and South America to Asia.
