Lufthansa is well-known for being stingy with releasing award seats for first class and will only tend to do so two weeks before departure. Lufthansa levies insane surcharges, so you’ll want to stick with an award program that doesn’t pass these on. Air Canada is good for this, as you can see on this route from Charlotte (CLT) to Munich (MUC).

You can also use Avianca LifeMiles to book, which charges even fewer fees and just 87,000 miles one-way, even when traveling from San Francisco (SFO) to Frankfurt (FRA).

Best Ways to Book

Although Aeroplan charges 100,000 points for a one-way flight, Chase is currently running a 20% transfer bonus to the program. This means you can transfer just 84,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points and come out with 100,800 points to book these tickets.

Aeroplan points are also extremely easy to earn otherwise and can be transferred in from American Express Membership Rewards, Capital One Miles, and Bilt Rewards at a 1:1 ratio.
