Key Takeaways

  • Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) features 12 lounges, including United Club locations in Terminals A and C and the Delta Sky Club in Terminal A.
  • Lounges generally offer free Wi-Fi, snacks, beverages, and comfortable seating, catering to both business and leisure travelers.
  • EWR currently has 1 Priority Pass experience for eligible cardholders at Be Relax Spa.

Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) served 48 million passengers in 2024, making it one of the busiest airports in the U.S. Thankfully for travelers, the airport also has a decent number of lounges.

Whether you’re flying United — which accounts for almost 70% of passenger traffic at EWR — Delta, American, or an international carrier, you’ll have options when it comes to finding an airport lounge.

EWR has 12 lounges, including 4 lounges managed by United Airlines, a Delta Sky Club, and an American Airlines Admirals Club. Passengers flying with United Airlines, American Airlines, or a Star Alliance airline may purchase lounge entry if they do not qualify through any other means.

Hot Tip:

Connecting Between Terminals for Lounge Access

Newark Liberty International Airport Shuttle Bus
Newark Liberty International Airport United Shuttle bus. Image Credit: The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey

If you’re flying with a Star Alliance airline, you can ride the United Shuttle bus that operates between the 3 terminals inside the secure area. This allows passengers to use a lounge in a different terminal from their departing flight without the need to reclear security.

One shuttle route operates between terminals A and C from 4 a.m. to 12 a.m. Another one-way route operates from Terminal A to Terminal B and from Terminal C to Terminal B, between 1 p.m. and 11 p.m. Buses operate from near gates A28, B67, and C70.

Newark Liberty International AirTrain
Newark Liberty International Airport AirTrain. Image Credit: The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey

If you’re not traveling on a Star Alliance airline and need to travel between terminals, you must ride the AirTrain and reclear security. Keep this in mind and allow plenty of time if you’re changing terminals to access a particular lounge before your flight.

The AirTrain runs every 3 minutes between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m. and every 15 minutes between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Best Cards for Lounge Access

With lounge access, you can take your airport experience to the next level. Why spend your time wandering airport gift shops as you wait for your flight when you could be waiting for your flight in style from the comfort of an airport lounge with free food and drinks?

The very best airport lounge access cards are the Amex Platinum card and Amex Business Platinum card. Not only do cardmembers get access to Priority Pass lounges upon enrollment, but also get access to 7 other airport lounge networks, including Centurion Lounges, Delta Sky Clubs (when flying Delta), Plaza Premium Lounges, and Escape Lounges – The Centurion Studio Partner. This virtually guarantees that no matter what airport you’re flying out of, there is likely to be a lounge that you can access with your Amex Platinum card.

Curious what other options you have? Here are some other credit cards that offer airport lounge access:

Final Thoughts

Newark Liberty International Airport has a good selection of lounges where passengers can wait for their flights in more comfortable surroundings. The airside shuttle bus gives Star Alliance passengers the freedom to move between terminals without needing to reclear security.

Just remember, if you’re changing terminals to visit a particular lounge before your flight and you aren’t flying with a Star Alliance airline, you’ll have to ride the AirTran and reclear security. This can take some time, so be sure to plan accordingly.
