World of Hyatt

As a new cardmember, you’ll receive a substantial welcome offer and the following benefits:

  • Up to 9x points total at Hyatt — 4 Bonus Points per $1 on qualifying purchases at Hyatt, plus 5 Base Points per $1 from Hyatt as a World of Hyatt member
  • 1 free night at a category 1-4 property after your cardmember anniversary
  • 1 additional free night at a category 1-4 property after spending $15,000 during your cardmember year
  • 5 elite night qualifying credits
  • 2 additional elite night credits for every $5,000 spent on the card
  • Discoverist status as long as you have the card

As you can see, the Hyatt Credit Card is not your average hotel credit card. With the 1 category 1-4 free night certificate that comes with the card after your cardmember anniversary, you can easily offset the $95 annual fee. Simply redeem the certificate for a hotel that costs at least $95 per night, and you will come out ahead in terms of the annual fee.

What differentiates the Hyatt Credit Card is that it’s a card to put your spend on. With every $5,000 that you spend on the card, you will receive 2 elite night credits. If you want to earn the coveted Globalist status, 2 elite night credits per $5,000 in spending goes a long way.

Heavy spenders can also benefit from this card. If you spend $15,000 on the card, you will earn 1 additional category 1-4 free night certificate. This certificate is in addition to the free award night certificate you will earn by being a cardmember. That’s potentially 2 category 1-4 certificates to redeem!

Hot Tip: If you’re a small business owner, consider signing up for the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card, which offers big earning potential and an easier path to Globalist status.

Other Ways to Earn World of Hyatt Points

The Hyatt Credit Card is the easiest way to earn points on stays at Hyatt hotels. You will earn up to 9x points total at Hyatt — 4 Bonus Points per $1 on qualifying purchases at Hyatt, plus 5 Base Points per $1 from Hyatt as a World of Hyatt member.

Hyatt is also a Chase Ultimate Rewards travel partner. Similar to its airline partners, you can transfer Chase points directly to Hyatt. There are several Chase cards out there so it is fairly easy to generate World of Hyatt points via Chase point transfers.

Chase has 3 Ultimate Rewards cards in the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, Chase Sapphire Reserve®, and Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card. These cards earn Chase points with your spending that can then be transferred directly to Hyatt.

There are also Chase credit cards that earn cash back instead of points. If you hold an Ultimate Rewards card, the cash-back earned from the Chase Freedom®, (no longer open to new applicants), Chase Freedom Flex℠, Chase Freedom Unlimited®, Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, and Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card can be converted to Chase points.

Marriott Bonvoy

Marriott Bonvoy Award Chart

Marriott, like Hilton and IHG, uses dynamic pricing for its reward redemptions. This means that the amount of points you’ll pay per night will depend on demand.

Other Ways to Earn Marriott Points

Spending on Marriott Bonvoy credit cards is the easiest way to earn Marriott points. Another way to earn Marriott points is to stay at Marriott Bonvoy hotels. As a Marriott Bonvoy member, you will earn 10 points per $1 spent. Depending on which Marriott Bonvoy elite tier member you are, you will earn 10-75% bonus points during your stay.

Marriott is an Amex hotel partner and Chase hotel partner. This means that Amex and Chase points can be transferred directly to Marriott. However, we recommend that you transfer Amex and Chase points to their high-value airline (and hotel with Hyatt and Chase) partners instead.

IHG One Rewards

IHG One Rewards Credit Cards

Chase is the credit card issuer of IHG credit cards. These cards are subject to the infamous Chase 5/24 rule, so you will want to do some research to determine your eligibility. The 3 IHG credit cards that are available to new applications are:

The IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card, previously called the IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card (no longer open to new applicants), is currently offering a monster welcome offer. Concerning credit card perks, IHG elite status, the annual certificate for a property requiring up to 40,000 points per night, and a reward night free on an eligible award booking are reasons to apply for this card.

The IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card is another co-branded card issued by Chase. The ability to earn additional points at IHG properties (in addition to bonuses on monthly bills, gas stations, and restaurants) are the reasons to apply for this card. Another perk of the IHG Traveler card is the ability to get automatic IHG Silver Elite status.

IHG One Rewards Award Chart

IHG now uses dynamic award pricing, and as a result, there is no longer a published award chart. The number of points required to book a room will fluctuate, so the only way to know how many points you will need per hotel is by running an award search.

Other Ways to Earn IHG One Rewards Points

The 2 easiest ways to earn IHG One Rewards points are to put your spending on IHG credit cards and stays at IHG hotels. Another way to earn IHG One Rewards points is to transfer Chase points directly to IHG. We do not recommend that you make this transfer, and instead, redeem Chase points with its more valuable airline and hotel partners.

Hilton Honors

Hilton Honors Credit Cards

Hilton incentivizes new credit card applications by offering large welcome offers and free night certificates for a standard room. The cards that offer certificates do come with annual fees, however, it is easy to offset these fees by redeeming the certificate.

Hilton Honors loyalty program

The Hilton Aspire card is the premium credit card in the Hilton credit card family. As a cardmember, you will receive a free night certificate each year. A free night certificate can be earned on the Hilton Surpass card after spending $15,000 in a calendar year.

Hot Tip: If you are looking for a deep dive on American Express Hilton Honors credit cards, check out our Amex Hilton Honors credit cards article.

Hilton Honors Award Chart

Hilton does not use an award chart and instead uses dynamic award pricing. We have found that the Points Explorer tool is a helpful way to see the number of points you will need per night.

Enter your destination in the Where do you want to go? search bar. Then enter the number of points that you have in the How many Points per night are you working with? scroll bar. Last, the search results will show you how many points you will need to book a hotel in that area.

Other Ways to Earn Hilton Honors Points

If you want to pad your Hilton balance, earning Hilton Honors points from its credit cards is an easy way to make this happen. Hilton cards offer 3x to 14x points in spending categories like airfare, grocery stores, Hilton purchases, and restaurants.

Additional ways to earn Hilton Honors points are to pay for cash stays at Hilton properties, take Lyft rides, and transfer American Express points. Concerning Amex transfers to Hilton, we do not recommend transferring Amex points to Hilton and instead recommend transferring points to the Amex airline partners.

Final Thoughts

As is the case with any major city, a trip to London will not be cheap. However, 1 way to keep your expenses in check is by using points for your hotel stays. In this article, we showed that you can receive between 0.5-2.3 cents per point in value with hotel points. That’s awesome news as you can stay in a variety of properties across all of the major hotel brands in prime London locations.

About Michael McHugh

Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Michael took his first international trip in 2013 with friends to the Bahamas. Although he didn’t travel much in his younger years, on that trip, he caught the travel bug and has been hooked ever since.

Michael first caught wind of the points and miles game in 2014 while at a bar in Washington, DC where the conversation amongst friends was quickly derailed because of an alert on a friend’s phone about a mistake fare.  That’s where the love affair with points and miles began.
