Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is one of the busiest airports in the United States and serves as a major gateway to the New York City metropolitan area. The airport handled approximately 47 million passengers in 2025, connecting travelers to destinations across the U.S. and around the world.

For those looking to escape the crowds, EWR offers a range of airport lounges across its terminals. Access depends on factors such as the airline you’re flying, your ticket class, frequent flyer status, lounge membership, or eligible credit card benefits (Source: Port Authority of New York and New Jersey).

Quick Overview: Newark (EWR) Airport Lounges

Newark Liberty has 12 lounges and a USO Center spread across terminals A, B, and C. United has the largest presence, operating 3 United Clubs and a Polaris Lounge, while Terminal A is also home to the Admirals Club, Delta Sky Club, and a United Club. An American Express Centurion Lounge is scheduled to open in Terminal A in 2026.

Most travelers can access lounges through a premium cabin or eligible partner ticket, airline status, lounge membership, or by purchasing a day pass where available.

Some lounges are also accessible through certain credit cards, including Delta Sky Club with the Platinum Card® from American Express when flying Delta and United Club with the United Club℠ Card. Eligible Priority Pass members with access to experiences can use Be Relax Spa and Minute Suites at EWR.

Passengers generally cannot move between terminals airside unless traveling on a Star Alliance itinerary with access to the terminal shuttle. Newark does not issue passes that allow access through security checkpoints, so passengers must have a valid boarding card to access the terminal or concourse where a lounge is.

Does Newark Airport Have a Priority Pass Lounge?

Newark Liberty International Airport does not have a traditional airline-style Priority Pass lounge. Instead, Priority Pass members can access 2 participating experiences: Be Relax Spa near gate 7 in Terminal A and Minute Suites in Terminal C (Source: Priority Pass). A Priority Pass visit can be applied toward certain spa treatments at Be Relax Spa or toward time in a private suite at Minute Suites. Credit cards that include Priority Pass experiences, such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, provide access to both locations.

Best Lounge at Newark Airport (EWR)

For most travelers, the best lounge at Newark Airport is the United Club near gate C123. Opened in 2023, the 30,000-square-foot space is the largest United Club in the airline’s network and offers ample seating, runway views, self-service food stations, a full-service bar, and dedicated work areas.

However, for eligible passengers traveling internationally in long-haul business class, the United Polaris Lounge remains the top premium lounge thanks to good dining, quieter atmosphere, and higher-end amenities. The best choice ultimately depends on your access and travel itinerary.

If you’re flying with a Star Alliance airline, you can ride the United Shuttle bus that operates between the terminals inside the secure area. This allows passengers to use a lounge in a different terminal from their departure terminal without having to reclear security.

One shuttle route operates between terminals A and C from 3:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Another one-way route operates from Terminal A to Terminal B and from Terminal C to Terminal B, between 1 p.m. and 11 p.m. Buses operate from near gates A28, B67, and C70.

If you’re not traveling on a Star Alliance airline and need to travel between terminals, you must ride the AirTrain and reclear security. The AirTrain runs every 3 minutes between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m. and every 15 minutes between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m (Source: Newark Airport).

Final Thoughts

Newark Liberty International Airport has a good selection of lounges where passengers can wait for their flights in more comfortable surroundings. The airside shuttle bus gives Star Alliance passengers the freedom to move between terminals without needing to reclear security.

If you’re changing terminals to visit a particular lounge before your flight and aren’t flying with a Star Alliance airline, you have to ride the AirTrain and reclear security. This can take time, so be sure to plan accordingly.
