How To Access Star Alliance Lounges

Like all airport lounge networks, there are requirements that you must meet in order to visit them. While there are ways to get into select Star Alliance lounges, like having a United Club membership, there are really only 3 ways to access every U.S. Star Alliance lounge:

1. Flying long-haul first class with a Star Alliance airline
2. Flying long-haul business class with a Star Alliance airline
3. Having Star Alliance Gold status

Further, if you have Star Alliance Gold status you are able to bring 1 guest that is traveling on your same flight.

How To Get Star Alliance Gold Status

There are currently 26 Star Alliance member airlines, and each offers its own loyalty program that can get you Star Alliance Gold status. In the table below, you can see what status level you need to reach with any Star Alliance member airline in order to receive Star Alliance Gold.

Star Alliance Lounge Food and Amenities

The exact food and amenities you find in Star Alliance lounges depends greatly on the type and size of the lounge, but you can expectfree food and beverages (including alcohol), free Wi-Fi, and comfortable seating for you to kick back and relax before your flight.

There are some lounges, though, that might offer more premium food and beverages, along with amenities like business centers, family rooms, and shower facilities.

Final Thoughts

If you’re a Star Alliance frequent flyer, having such a large network of Star Alliance lounges available to you is a huge benefit. Of course, the only downside is that you need to fly in business class, first class, or have Star Alliance Gold status in order to visit them with any sort of regularity. But those who do get to enjoy all the comforts that come along with lounges in the Star Alliance network.
