STL Airport Terminals

STL consists of 2 terminals located about half a mile from each other, with both accessible from I-70.

Terminals 1 and 2 at STL are not connected, so passengers must ride the free shuttle between terminals. Both terminals have individual parking facilities located outside of the terminal building.

Terminal 1

Terminal 1 is the larger of the 2 terminals and operates domestic flights only. The main terminal building has 2 levels — arrivals on the lower level and departures on the upper level.

Upper Level — Check-in

St. Louis Lambert International Airport Terminal 1 Upper Level

The upper level is served by Departures Drive and has airline ticketing counters and access to the MetroLink station via exit 1.

Lower Level — Baggage Claim

The lower level is served by Arrivals Drive and has baggage claim, some shops and cafes, and access to the concourses via their security checkpoints.

Concourse A

St. Louis Lambert International Airport Concourse A

Concourse A is at the northwest end of the terminal, accessible from the lower level via a security checkpoint at the entrance. Concourse A has 15 gates numbered A2 to A4, A6, A8 to A10, A12, A14 to A19, and A21.

Flights are operated by Air Canada, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines. The concourse has a few shops and a good selection of restaurants and cafes, including Starbucks and Budweiser Brew House.

Concourse C

St. Louis Lambert International Airport Concourse C

Concourse C has 20 gates numbered C1 to C3, C5 to C10, C12, C15 to C19, C23, C24, and C27 to C30 and is located at the southeast end of Terminal 1.

Flights are operated by Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Cape Air, Charter Flights, Frontier Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, and Spirit Airlines.

Concourse C has a good selection of shops and restaurants, including a Starbucks and Chillis, and there is an Admirals Club just after the security checkpoint.

Terminal 2

Terminal 2 operates flights by Southwest Airlines, Lufthansa, and any international arrivals, as the terminal has customs and immigration facilities.

The terminal is located at the southern end of the airport and consists of 2 levels. International arrivals is on the lower level and departures is on the upper level.

Upper Level — Check-in

Southwest Airlines and Lufthansa’s ticketing counters are located on the upper level along with access to a security checkpoint to pass into Concourse E. The concourse has 18 gates, numbered E4, E6, E8, E10, E12, E14, E16, E20, E22, E24, E29, E31, E33, E34, E36, E38, and E40. The Wingtips Lounge is located near gate 20, and there’s a good selection of shops and restaurants throughout the concourse, including Burger King and Stella Artois Bar.

Lower Level — Baggage Claim

International arrivals is on the lower level with baggage claim and a USO Lounge opposite door 11. Passengers can access ground transportation from Arrivals Drive or the parking garage located across the road.

Inter-terminal Transport

STL has a courtesy shuttle bus that runs between Terminals 1 and 2. Buses operate every 8 to 15 minutes from exit 12 at both terminals, and the journey takes around 10 minutes.

At Terminal 1, the security checkpoints are located at the entrances of Concourses A and B, so it is not possible to walk between the 2 without leaving the secure area.

Cape Air provides limited shuttle services between concourses and terminals for carry-on-only passengers, or passengers that have had their luggage checked to their final destination. Passengers traveling on Cape Air are advised to contact the airline for information about shuttle services.

Final Thoughts

STL is one of the oldest municipal airports in the U.S., established in 1920.

With its own MetroLink light rail stations, STL has good transit links to St. Louis and Monroe County in Illinois. Despite the ease of getting to and from the city, STL ranked 19th in the Wall Street Journal survey for the 20 midsize U.S. airports. The airport ranked poorly for its average domestic fares and the cost of an Uber to the city center. It ranked slightly better for its on-time arrival average (8 of 20) and its TSA waiting time (6 of 20).
