Key Takeaways

  • Brands like Residence Inn by Marriott, Homewood Suites by Hilton, and Staybridge Suites by IHG offer fully equipped kitchens in their rooms, ideal for extended stays or family travel.
  • Brands like Executive Residency by Best Western and Embassy Suites by Hilton feature kitchenettes with minifridges and microwaves.
  • Amenities vary by hotel brand and location, so it’s best to check what’s included before you book.

Do you need a hotel room with a kitchen? Sometimes, whether you’re traveling with kids or trying to save money on meals, having a kitchen in your hotel room just makes sense. But it can be hard to find out which hotels offer this perk — until now.

We’ve put together this list of hotel brands that have kitchens as an easy reference for you so you know where to look when you need a kitchen or kitchenette during your travels.

Kitchen vs. Kitchenette

When you’re looking for a hotel with a kitchen, it’s good to have an idea of what you’ll actually need. Do you just need a room that comes with a microwave and sink or do you need a fully-equipped kitchen with a cooktop and full-sized refrigerator?

You’ll find hotels that come with different amenities that can be labeled differently. The terms “kitchen” and “kitchenette” don’t have clear definitions, so you’ll want to look at the hotel room’s details.

When you see a hotel room that comes with a full kitchen, you can generally expect a cooktop, a full-sized refrigerator, and a sink. Many also come with a microwave, a dishwasher, and even dishes and cookware.

When a hotel comes with a kitchenette, it’s not always clear what you’ll get, but it usually won’t include a cooktop, dishwasher, or full-sized fridge. Some locations advertise a wet bar in lieu of a kitchenette. However, this can essentially be the same as a kitchenette. A kitchenette (or wet bar) usually comes with a sink, microwave, and minifridge, but it can include more or less than that, so be sure to read the description to ensure it has everything you’ll need.

Bottom Line: The terms kitchen and kitchenette aren’t clearly defined when it comes to what’s included, so amenities can vary by hotel brand and location. Generally speaking, a full kitchen will include a cooktop and full-sized refrigerator while a kitchenette usually comes with a minifridge and a microwave.

Best Western only has 1 brand that comes with a kitchen, but it could be a good option if you would like to use your Best Western Rewards points.

Executive Residency by Best Western

Executive Residency is Best Western’s extended-stay brand. All locations have rooms that come with a minifridge and microwave and some rooms have kitchens that include a cooktop, refrigerator, sink, and microwave. Currently, there are only 7 locations, so this brand won’t be convenient for most travelers.

Hyatt Hotels With Kitchens

There are 2 Hyatt brands that offer full kitchens in every room — Hyatt House and Hyatt Residence Club. Among Hyatt’s other brands, you’ll find some specific rooms and suites that come with a kitchen or kitchenette, but this varies by location.

Hyatt House

Hyatt House is Hyatt’s long-term stay option that’s designed to be more like an apartment than a hotel room. Each Hyatt House room has a fully-equipped kitchen including a microwave, refrigerator, and stovetop along with a separate living area and up to 2 bedrooms. In addition, every Hyatt House location provides free breakfast, a gym, a grab-and-go market, free Wi-Fi, and laundry facilities.

There are also outdoor common areas featuring grills and fire pits, and most locations also have a pool.

Hyatt House is a great option for a long-term stay, but it also works well for families traveling together or anyone who needs a hotel room with a kitchen.

Bottom Line: There are almost 100 Hyatt House locations around the world and they all have full kitchens. Even better, you can earn and use World of Hyatt points at all locations.

Hyatt Vacation Club

Hyatt Vacation Club (formerly Hyatt Residence Club) is Hyatt’s vacation ownership (aka timeshare) brand and every location has fully-equipped kitchens along with separate living and dining areas, a master bedroom with an en suite bathroom, and a private lanai or balcony. Plus, there are laundry facilities at every location.

There are 20+ Hyatt Vacation Club locations in the U.S. across 7 states, Puerto Rico, and Mexico.

  • Arizona
  • Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Florida
  • Hawaii
  • Missouri
  • Nevada
  • New Mexico
  • Puerto Rico
  • Texas

You don’t have to be an owner to stay at Hyatt Vacation Club locations. Often, you’ll be able to book one of these properties with cash or World of Hyatt points just as you would any other Hyatt hotel room.

Bottom Line: All Hyatt Vacation Club locations have kitchens. While this is technically a timeshare brand, you don’t have to be an owner to stay at a Hyatt Vacation Club.

There are over 2,000 Marriott Homes & Villas options across the world and they all participate in the Marriott Bonvoy program, so you can earn or use points for your stay.

Marriott Executive Apartments

Marriott Executive Apartments probably isn’t a brand that comes to mind often since it only has 30 locations — and none of them are in the U.S. However, if you’re traveling abroad and need to book a hotel with a kitchen, keep an eye out for this brand.

Each room is a fully-furnished apartment complete with a full kitchen. In addition to the gourmet kitchen, there are separate living, working, and sleeping areas with up to 3 bedrooms, plus fitness and business centers in every location.

Marriott Vacation Club

Marriott Vacation Club is the timeshare brand in the Marriott family. However, anyone can rent a room, so don’t think you need to be an owner to stay at one of these properties. SpringHill Suites by Marriott

SpringHill Suites by Marriott don’t have full kitchens, but this brand is worth mentioning since every room has a small kitchenette with a minifridge and microwave. While you won’t be able to do much gourmet cooking, sometimes the addition of a microwave and cold food storage is enough to help you eat a few meals in your room.

Plus, you’ll get a hot breakfast included in your stay. With over 500 locations across the U.S. and Canada, you’re bound to run into a SpringHill Suites at some point during your travels.

TownePlace Suites by Marriott

TownePlace Suites by Marriott is an extended stay brand that appeals to business and leisure travelers alike. Each room is a suite that has a full kitchen with a dishwasher, microwave, full-size fridge, and stovetop, as well as a separate sitting area and either a work desk or dining table. Plus, guests can borrow kitchen gadgets such as blenders, kitchen tools, and grilling accessories at the front desk.

If you don’t feel like cooking in the morning, just take advantage of the free hot breakfast offered to all guests. With over 400 locations across the U.S. and Canada, there will usually be a TownePlace Suites close by.

Bottom Line: Marriott has lots of options when you’re looking for a hotel room that has a kitchen. Residence Inn, Homes & Villas, Townplace Suites, Element, and Marriott Executive Apartments all come with a full kitchen in every room. All SpringHill Suites locations have a kitchenette, and Marriott Vacation Club locations come with either a kitchenette or a full kitchen.

Final Thoughts

While part of the lure of a hotel room can be the fact that you don’t have to cook, many travelers prefer to have access to a kitchen for convenience and budget concerns. While you can rent an apartment or condo if you need a full kitchen, it’s nice to know there are lots of hotel brands that come with full kitchens or kitchenettes as well.

All of the major hotel chains — Best Western, Choice, Hilton, Hyatt, IHG, Marriott, and Wyndham — offer brands that guarantee a fully-equipped kitchen or a kitchenette, so there are plenty of options for every traveler.
