We hear a lot about high-end hotel experiences, like scoring an over-the-water bungalow in the Maldives or a little luxury suite time near Place Vendome in the 1st arrondissement of Paris.

While high-end hotel experiences are great, having a wide variety of hotel categories to choose from also has value. Many travelers are happy with a nice clean room and free breakfast.

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is able to deliver at all points of the hotel experience spectrum. With nearly 9,000 properties in 80 countries around the globe, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts has a huge footprint too.

Their 20 hotel brands are conveniently located in big cities, small towns, at the beachfront, and at popular vacation destinations.

With Wyndham, you’ll find the basic value hotel brands such as Super 8 and Days Inn, but you’ll also find some very upscale properties. Wyndham offers high-end properties with executive lounges, all-inclusive beach-side resorts, and even vacation condo rentals.

You could easily pay to stay at a Wyndham hotel or resort as there are plenty of affordable properties. But why not stay for free, even at one of their luxury properties?

Wyndham Rewards points can make that happen. These points offer good value at redemption time for booking free hotel nights, and they’re easy to earn too.

In this article, we’ll cover:

  • Why you’d want to earn Wyndham Rewards
  • Personal credit cards that earn Wyndham Rewards
  • Other ways to earn more Wyndham Rewards

Let’s get started learning how to earn lots of Wyndham Rewards points and booking free hotel nights!

Why Wyndham Rewards Points?

The best case scenario of any points program is that there are lots of ways to earn rewards and good value at redemption time. With Wyndham Rewards, you’ll get both: valuable rewards points that are also easy to earn.

The Value of Wyndham Rewards

Wyndham free nights now cost either 7,500 points, 15,000 points or 30,000 points per night.

Hot Tip: To clearly illustrate the value of Wyndham Rewards points, our experts put together a big list of best ways to redeem Wyndham Rewards. It’s an impressive collection!

Ease of Earning Wyndham Rewards

Wyndham Rewards points are easy to earn because there are so many different ways to earn them. You can earn big on their credit cards with sign-up bonuses, everyday spending, and bonus category spending.

Even without a Wyndham Rewards credit card, you can earn when staying at Wyndham properties, during special promotions, or on car rentals.

Bottom Line: There are so many easy ways to earn a lot of Wyndham Rewards points — and free nights start at just 7,500 points per night.

Personal Credit Cards That Earn Wyndham Rewards

There are 2 Wyndham Rewards credit cards that both have the same name. One charges an annual fee but the other does not, and they have different earning structures and benefits.

To avoid confusion, I’m going to refer to the card with the annual fee, from this point on, as the Wyndham Rewards Card 75 (since it has a $75 annual fee).

In addition to earning bonus points at Wyndham, the Wyndham Rewards Card 75 comes with Platinum elite status, and the Wyndham Rewards Card comes with Gold elite status!

Both credit cards are issued by Barclays and come with Visa Signature benefits.

Let’s take a look at how you can earn lots of Wyndham Rewards using these cards.

Earning Points With Wyndham Credit Cards

Regardless of whether you secure a Wyndham credit card, you’ll want to sign up for the Wyndham Rewards frequent stay program. You’ll need to establish a member account since this is where all your Wyndham Rewards points will be deposited as you earn them.

Once you’re signed up, you’re ready to start earning Wyndham Rewards Points.

Earn a Sign-up Bonus

The Wyndham Rewards Card 75 comes with a total of 30,000 Wyndham Rewards points after spending $1,000 within the first 90 days after card approval. You will receive the first 15,000 points after your first purchase, and the additional 15,000 points once you’ve spent the $1,000 in the 90-day period.

Earning 30,000 points is enough to get 2 free nights even at a Wyndham property that could cost hundreds of dollars per night!

The Wyndham Rewards Card comes with a sign-up bonus of 15,000 Wyndham Rewards points after making your first purchase.

Stay at Wyndham and Pay With Your Wyndham Credit Card

You’ll automatically receive Wyndham Rewards points for staying at Wyndham properties — but if you use your Wyndham Rewards credit card, you’ll earn even more!

The Wyndham Rewards Card 75 earns 5 points per dollar spent, while the Wyndham Rewards Card earns 3 points per dollar spent.

Spend at the Supermarket

We all know that supermarkets carry more than groceries, so it’s great to have a hotel rewards card earning points on everything you buy at the supermarket!

Since both Wyndham Rewards cards earn 2 points for every dollar spent in this category, think about buying more than just groceries at the supermarket.

Hot Tip: The “supermarket” category does not include Target, Walmart, or warehouse clubs.

Order with DoorDash

Receive 250 points per DoorDash order when booking at their Wyndham site. Plus, if you are staying at a Wyndham property, delivery is free with promo code WRD!

New DoorDash customers can register an account to earn 2,000 points and $5 off their first order by using promo code WR5.

Pay Your Utility Bills

Both Wyndham Rewards credit cards earn bonus rewards points on purchases of telecommunications services, cable, satellite, electric, gas, heating, and water.

You’ll earn 2 points per dollar spent on these utility bills when using either Wyndham Rewards credit card.

Fill Up the Tank

I know it’s hard to believe, but you’re going to be earning bonus Wyndham Rewards points on gas purchases too! Both Wyndham Rewards cards earn 2 points per dollar spent.

Earn on Every Purchase

Even if your purchase is not included in one of the bonus categories, every purchase you make on your Wyndham Rewards credit card earns at least 1 point per dollar spent.

Card Anniversary Bonus Points

At your first and subsequent card renewal anniversary, you will receive 6,000 Wyndham Rewards points on your Wyndham Rewards Card 75.

Pay Your Maintenance Fees

If you’re a current Wyndham Vacation Rental North America property owner, you can earn bonus Wyndham Rewards points!

On-property spending and maintenance fees at Club Wyndham, WorldMark by Wyndham, and Shell Vacations Club properties earn 5 points per dollar on the Wyndham Rewards Card 75.

The Wyndham Rewards Card earns 3 points per dollar spent at these properties.

Bottom Line: Wyndham Rewards credit cards help you accumulate rewards faster, make your stay more comfortable with automatic elite status, and reward everyday purchases.

More Ways to Earn Wyndham Rewards

Be sure you’re signed up for the Wyndham Rewards frequent stay program prior to staying at a Wyndham property or utilizing any of theses reward-earning activities.

Stay at a Wyndham Hotel

Earning Wyndham Rewards on all affiliated hotel stays is a simple process. You’ll earn 10 points per dollar spent (regardless of the credit card you use), and receive a minimum of 1,000 points for each stay.

There are no extra bonus points granted for having any elite status level.

Hot Tip: Since free nights at Wyndham start at 7,500 points per night, even staying at lower-priced properties can earn free nights quickly. For example, staying at a $49 per night hotel would mean you would only need to spend just $735 (15 nights)  to earn 15,000 points, good for as many as 2 free nights.

Purchase the “Best Rate + Points”

Select a Best Rate + Points option when you book your hotel room and receive:

  • 2,000 bonus points for weekday stays of 2+ nights

Plan a Meeting

Have a special event or meeting? You’ll earn 1 Wyndham Rewards point per dollar spent for the meeting room, hotel rooms, and associated charges. Note that the paying guest earns 10 points per dollar spent or 1,000 points minimum, whichever is greater.

Earn Elite Status

After 15 stays in a calendar year at Wyndham properties, you’ll qualify for Platinum elite status and receive a 15% bonus on Wyndham Rewards points from stays.

If you stay 40 nights in a calendar year, you’ll qualify for Diamond status and receive a 20% bonus on Wyndham Rewards points from stays.

If you have elite status with another hotel chain, see if you’re eligible for a status match or challenge with Wyndham.

If you find a lower publicly available rate on another website, they’ll match that rate plus give you 3,000 Wyndham Rewards bonus points. Terms and conditions apply.

Rent a Car

To start, elect to receive marketing and promotional emails when you sign up for the Wyndham Rewards frequent stay program.

You’ll then receive invitations for discounted stays at Vacation Ownership properties with the requirement of participating in a timeshare presentation.

Earn Points With Special Offers

Wyndham runs periodic special offers, such as the recent Super 8 Military Appreciation rate that awarded a special rate plus 500 bonus points. Other examples include the “15% off plus 100 bonus points” promo and the “stay 2 nights, get 8,000 points” deal.

Once you’ve signed up for the Wyndham Rewards program, keep an eye on your email for special reward-earning offers.

Join the Opinion Rewards Panel

Share your opinion and earn Wyndham Rewards! You’ll receive 500 points for signing up with the Opinion Rewards Panel and taking your first survey.

Buy Wyndham Rewards Points

Another way to acquire Wyndham Rewards points is to purchase them. You can buy up to 10,000 points per year.

Final Thoughts

Wyndham truly offers a vast scope of properties, and having a variety of lodging choices is a good thing.

If you plan to stay at these properties or are already a member of their rewards program, it also makes sense to have one of their credit cards.

I believe the card that offers the better value is the one with the $75 annual fee. The extra points received with the sign-up bonus definitely offset that annual fee, especially if you redeem them to stay at a high-end property!

In addition, if you stay at their properties frequently, the extra earnings and annual renewal bonus on the Wyndham Rewards Card 75 could offset future annual fees too.

But if you stay at Wyndham just occasionally, perhaps select the credit card with no annual fee.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t see much of a downside to earning and redeeming Wyndham Rewards points!

Frequently asked questions

How do Wyndham Rewards points work?

Wyndham Rewards are earned when making purchases on the Wyndham Rewards credit cards, staying at affiliated properties, and completing other qualifying activities that earn Wyndham Rewards points.

Once earned, the rewards points are deposited into your Wyndham Rewards account (separate from your credit card account) and are ready for you to redeem.

You can redeem rewards for free hotel nights, experiences, merchandise, gift cards, vacation ownership fees/maintenance, or donate to charity.

Redemption options vary in value, with hotel nights delivering the best value.

Do Wyndham Rewards points expire?

Yes. Wyndham Rewards points expire if your Wyndham Rewards account is inactive for 18 months or more.

Even with activity, the points expire 48 months from the date they are earned.

Also, Wyndham Rewards points that have been earned on your Wyndham credit card would be forfeited if you closed your credit card and the points had not yet been transferred to your Wyndham Rewards account.

Is the Wyndham Rewards credit card worth it?

If you stay at Wyndham-affiliated properties, having either of the Wyndham Rewards credit cards is worth it.

First, the cards come with elite status, which helps you get an upgraded room, free Wi-Fi, and other on-property amenities.

Also, the $75 annual fee is more than offset by the 30,000-point sign-up bonus on the Wyndham Rewards Card 75. And 15,000 points for signing up for the no-annual-fee card is like free money!

Is Gold or Platinum status worth it?

Having status with a hotel brand is always a positive.

With Gold status, you’ll receive free Wi-Fi and the opportunity for your qualification nights to roll over to the next year if you exceed the annual stay requirement for Gold status.

In addition, you’ll receive preferred rooms and late checkout.

At Platinum elite status, you’ll receive additional benefits that include early check-in and 3,000 Wyndham Rewards points.

While not earth-shattering, elite status can make a positive difference in your stay, and it is automatically included when you have either Wyndham Rewards credit card.

Do you happen to know if the rewards are available to previous card holders? I had the card about two years ago, canceled it, but am now thinking I may want to get the card again.

    • Katie Seemann March 28, 2019

      Hi Cole,
According to the Terms and Conditions for the Wyndham credit cards, the bonus offer is only available to new cardmembers only.

  2. Judith W. Hodge April 6, 2019

I would like a complete list of stores/purchases that earn Wyndham reward points. I have called and requested a list. No success. I was told to go to the Barclay website and it does not give a list. It gives categories, but also says some exclusions. I am not a mind reader. Was shopping at JCP. The clerk had no idea ( nor should she) if I was earning Wyndham points. The sales pitch we received that convinced us to apply for the Barclay Visa card said we earned points for charges in all restaurants. The info we received with our card said restaurants were not included. We need a list or a simple clarification. Very disappointed so far!

    • Hi Judith, please be advised **we are NOT Wyndham, nor are we their rewards program** – we are Upgraded Points, a website that publishes articles based on points and miles content as well as other travel related pieces.

It’s very likely there’s not a public list of each and every store; as such, we don’t have one/have not found one anywhere online to our knowledge. As with all rewards programs, there are ALWAYS exclusions and just as you are not a mind reader, neither are we!

Who did you call to request the list? Wyndham? I would suggest calling the phone number on the back of your credit card if you have not tried that already! Sorry we can’t be of more assistance, but again – we are not Wyndham or Barclays so we have no more information than you do or that is available to the public!

      • Christine Krzyszton April 7, 2019

Hi Judith. I would also add to Erin’s reply that your Wyndham Rewards card earns 1 point per dollar on every purchase. There are no bonus categories for retail stores.

  3. Elisa C Elliott April 26, 2019

I can’t believe that spending over $8,000 at Wyndham Inns and Suites only got me 4 free nights! I stayed and paid for 109 nights and earned only 4 nights free! So disappointed!!! Did I make a mistake in my calculations? Think not!!!

    • Christine Krzyszton April 26, 2019

Hi Elisa. Each night at Wyndham properties earns 10 points per dollar spent or a minimum of 1000 points, whichever is greater. 109 nights would earn at least 109,000 points which would translate to 14 free nights at 7500 points per night or 7 nights when redeemed @ 15,000 points per night. You didn’t mention if you had the Wyndham Rewards credit card but if you did, your earnings would be significantly higher.

  4. Sandra Radermacher May 11, 2019

I have a Wyndham Rewards number not associated with a credit card that I have points for free nights. I now have the Wyndham Rewards Visa card. Are these two the same? Do my points transfer from one to another? Thanks.

    • Christine Krzyszton May 12, 2019

Hi Sandra. Thanks for the question. The number you have is for your Wyndham Rewards account. This is your loyalty account with Wyndham. Whenever you earn Wyndham rewards, whether staying at Wyndham or making purchases with your credit card, the points go into your Wyndham Rewards account. When you redeem points, they are taken out of Wyndham Rewards account. When you applied for your Wyndham Rewards Visa, you would have needed to add your Wyndham Rewards account number so that the card and the account are matched up. If you did not do this, another Wyndham Rewards account would have been set up for you and you would have 2 accounts. Look at your Wyndham Rewards account online and see if the purchases you’re making on your card are generating points in your account. If so, all is ok. If not, you can call Wyndham and have them merge the 2 rewards accounts. Hope this helps.

  5. I keep seeing commercials stating that you get one free night after staying for two nights.
When I Google for more information, I see that that deal was in 2018.
Is there a current deal or are we being shown last year’s commercials?

    • Christine Krzyszton May 13, 2019

Hi Judy. I found a “stay 2 nights, get 20% off” deal but no “stay 2, get one free” offer. I also did not find the offer on Wyndham’s web site or online. You might want to contact Wyndham Rewards 1-866-996-7937.

  6. Kathleen Ward June 17, 2019

How do I find out how many points I have?

  7. JAMES KRIEGER October 5, 2019

I am not a WR member yet. I plan to sign up shortly as my travel for work places me in Wyndham hotels often. Is it better to sign up now (prior to stay) or fill out a form at the hotel? Is there any type of bonus associated with the first stay?

    • Hi James,

There likely will not be any bonuses associated with the first stay so you’re probably better off just signing up in advance to save yourself time during check-in.

      Thanks for reading!

  8. Hi Christine,

Looks like new double points is not a good deal. Earlier we were getting base points plus 1,000 points for a week night if we paid little more. With the new deal, even if we pay little more, we are going to get less points. Wyndham is making it less lucrative.
