New York City is one of the most iconic cities, not only in the U.S. but in the world. The Empire State Building, Central Park, Times Square, Broadway shows, food, and fashion are just a few reasons why you should visit this incredible city.

Other Ways to Earn Marriott Points

Putting your spend on Marriott credit cards is going to be the easiest way to earn Marriott points. When you factor in the welcome offer on top of consistent spend on Marriott cards, you will have your fair share of points to redeem.

Staying at Marriott hotels is another way to earn Marriott points. You will earn 10 points per $1 spent as a Marriott member and 10-75% bonus points depending upon your Marriott elite member tier.

Marriott also partners with American Express and Chase. This means that you can transfer American Express and Chase points to Marriott. The value is low when making these types of transfers so we recommend that you transfer American Express and Chase points to their high-value airline (and hotel with Hyatt and Chase) partners instead.

IHG One Rewards

IHG Credit Cards

Chase issues all of the IHG credit cards and are subject to the 5/24 rule. This is important to keep in mind if you plan on applying.

The IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card used to be the IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card (no longer open to new applicants). As a cardmember, the top perks of this credit card are IHG elite status, the annual certificate for a property requiring up to 40,000 points per night, and a night free on an eligible award booking.

The other personal co-branded IHG card issued by Chase is the IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card. Earning additional points at IHG properties, in addition to bonuses on monthly bills, gas stations, and restaurants, is the main reason to pick up this card.

In addition to the bonus category earnings, cardmembers receive an award night when you redeem points for any stay of 4 or more nights. Not bad for a card without an annual fee!

IHG One Rewards Award Chart

Similar to Hilton Honors, IHG uses dynamic award pricing. The number of points required to book a room is variable, so to know how many points you will need per hotel per night you will need to run an award search.

Other Ways to Earn IHG One Rewards Points

There are a couple of easy ways that we recommend earning IHG One Rewards points —spending on IHG credit cards and staying at IHG Hotels & Resorts.

Another option is to transfer Chase points directly to IHG to book an award stay. Chase points have a ton of value so we do not recommend that you make this transfer. Instead, we recommend redeeming Chase points with its more valuable airline and hotel partners.

Hilton Honors

Hilton Honors Credit Cards

Hilton partners with American Express to issue its credit cards. No matter what type of traveler you are, there’s a Hilton credit card for you.

Free night certificates for a standard room are the carrot Hilton uses to incentive new credit card applications. These cards have annual fees, however, but it’s easy to offset the fee by redeeming these certificates.

Hilton Honors loyalty program

The Hilton Aspire card is Hilton’s premium card geared towards travelers who find value in its free night certificate. Another Hilton card that allows you to earn a free night certificate is the Hilton Surpass card. By spending $15,000 in a calendar year on this card, you’ll earn a free night.

Bottom Line: Check out our Amex Hilton Honors credit card comparison if you need a deeper dive into Hilton cards. Everything you need to know is covered in this article.

Hilton Honors Award Chart

Hilton does not use an award chart and instead uses dynamic pricing. This means that the number of points per night will change depending on the date.

The Points Explorer tool is what we’ve found helpful in determining the number of Hilton points you need to book a free night. Enter your destination in the Where do you want to go? search bar. Then enter the number of points that you have in the How many Points per night are you working with? scroll bar. Last, the search results will show you how many points you will need to book a hotel in that area.

Other Ways to Earn Hilton Honors Points

Hilton credit cards make it easy to earn the Hilton points that you need. 3x and 14x points in spending categories like airfare, grocery stores, Hilton purchases, and restaurants is what you can earn with the array of Hilton cards currently available.

Other ways to pad your Hilton points balance include paying for cash stays at Hilton properties, taking Lyft rides, and transferring American Express points. Similar to Chase and IHG, we do not recommend transferring Amex points to Hilton but do recommend using Lyft to earn 3x points per $1 spent on rides.

Final Thoughts

About Michael McHugh

Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Michael took his first international trip in 2013 with friends to the Bahamas. Although he didn’t travel much in his younger years, on that trip, he caught the travel bug and has been hooked ever since.

Michael first caught wind of the points and miles game in 2014 while at a bar in Washington, DC where the conversation amongst friends was quickly derailed because of an alert on a friend’s phone about a mistake fare.  That’s where the love affair with points and miles began.
