Key Takeaways

  • American Express statement credits are offered on select cards, providing rebates for specific spending categories such as travel, dining, or shopping.
  • Some statement credits are automatically applied when qualifying purchases are made, and others might need to be activated.
  • Statement credits vary by credit card but include airline fees, Uber rides, streaming services, dining, and hotels.

American Express, one of the world’s most recognizable brands, has traditionally appealed to the luxury segment. Its valuable statement credits and benefits underscore that luxury while helping to offset annual fees.

This guide examines Amex statement credits and benefits in 2025, including a broad overview, terms and conditions you need to know, and which cards have statement credits you can use. We also show you how to make the most of each new offer.

Dining Credits

Several American Express cards offer dining and food-related statement credits. Here are some of those credits.

Another American Express dining credit is with Resy on the Amex Platinum card (up to $100 in statement credits each quarter), Amex Gold card (up to $50 in credits semiannually), and Delta Reserve card (up to $20 each month in statement credits). Enrollment is required separately for each card.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a statement credit?

A statement credit is essentially the opposite of a payment. It behaves a lot like a refund, but you’re not actually returning anything.

Learn more with our ultimate guide to credit card statement credits.

How does an Amex statement credit work?

You need to use your card to earn a statement credit, but you might need to activate it first unless the statement credit is automatic. Then pay for a qualifying purchase using the card for a statement credit. It may take up to 12 weeks for statement credits to post.

What is a $200 statement credit?

A $200 statement credit is a statement credit for a maximum of $200. You get up to $200 back if you make a qualifying purchase.

For example, if your purchase is $250, you get $200 back and pay only $50 out of pocket. If your purchase is $150, you get the entire $150 back and still have $50 left over for a future qualifying purchase.

Is an American Express card worth it?

American Express cards are worth it if you can get enough value from the rewards and benefits to offset the annual fee. The issuer offers numerous amazing credit cards.
