In the past few years, American Express has reimagined its premium travel card, the Platinum Card® from American Express. It has evolved from a card known solely for travel benefits to one that also provides a plethora of exclusive lifestyle perks.

One of the Amex Platinum card’s newest benefits is Platinum Nights by Resy — a new program that offers exclusive access to restaurant reservations.

Here’s what you need to know.

What Is Resy?

Resy is an online restaurant reservation platform that allows users to make reservations online or through its app. It’s popular in major cities, so if you’re in a city like New York or Los Angeles, you may use the platform for your brunch or dinner reservations anyway.

Amex acquired Resy in 2019, and several premium credit cards now include benefits through the platform.

How To Use the Platinum Nights by Resy Benefit

One of the newest benefits on the Amex Platinum card is Platinum Nights by Resy.

The program offers special access to reservations on select nights at participating in-demand Resy restaurants with your Amex Platinum card and the Business Platinum Card® from American Express.

With either card, you have special access to reservations on select nights at participating sought-after Resy restaurants in select cities (including New York, Los Angeles, and Miami). The app and website indicate each restaurant’s reservation release date and time.

Global Dining Access by Resy

If you have an eligible Amex card, you’ll get Global Dining Access by Resy, which is an exclusive program designed to allow members to access some of the most in-demand restaurants and enjoy other benefits like:

  • Priority notifications for reservation slots at over 9,000 restaurants

Other Amex Cards With Resy Benefits

The Amex Platinum card isn’t the only card offering Global Dining Access by Resy benefits:

But even if you don’t have one of these cards, you can still take advantage of some Resy benefits. For instance, the American Express® Gold Card — perhaps one of the best cards for foodies as it earns 4x points earned on purchases at restaurants worldwide (up to $50,000 in purchases per calendar year, then 1x points for the rest of the year) — offers credits for Resy. Specifically, you can get $100 in statement credits for Resy each calendar year — broken up into $50 semiannual credits— after you pay with your Amex Gold card at Resy restaurants in the U.S., or make other eligible Resy purchases (enrollment required)

The Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card and Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express Card offer up to $10 Resy credit per month, for a total of up to $120 back per year. The Delta Reserve card and Delta Reserve Business card offer up to $20 Resy credit per month, for a total of up to $240 back per year.

Here’s a look at how you’ll earn Membership Rewards points with the Amex Platinum card:

  • 1x points on other purchases

Of course, the Amex Platinum card is best known as a travel card, one that any frequent flier should keep in their wallet. The card offers impressive luxury travel benefits.

You’ll need to enroll via your American Express account for some of these benefits. To do this, log in to your account, navigate to the Benefits section, and follow the prompts to activate the benefits you’re interested in.

Amex has refreshed the Amex Platinum card in recent years, from being exclusively for travel to now offering hundreds of dollars in lifestyle statement credits at merchants, gyms, and more.

Final Thoughts

Amex is refreshing the Amex Platinum card and Amex Business Platinum card with new dining benefits, which include special access to reservations on some nights at hot, in-demand restaurants.

This is a nice benefit to have, especially if you’ve been eyeing a reservation that may have a waitlist. Plus, Amex added some sweet statement credit benefits for Resy to the Amex Platinum card and Amex Business Platinum card, a sign that the issuer sees these cards as lifestyle cards, not just for travel.
