Booking your hotel room with points is a great way to save money on your next vacation. However, there are so many hotel brands and loyalty programs out there that it can be hard to know which ones offer the best value for your needs. That’s why we’re breaking it all down here at Upgraded Points.

In this post, we’ll focus on the boutique hotel brand, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, which is a part of IHG Hotels & Resorts. We’ll also detail the best Kimpton hotels to book with points for maximum value.

Here are the guidelines we used when creating this list:

  • IHG One Rewards points are worth ~0.5 cents each. This list includes locations where the points value exceeds this average.
  • Peak travel dates for each location were determined using Google Travel.
  • Cash rates were based on the cost of a weekend night during the peak travel season for each destination.
  • The cents per point value was determined using the average cash cost and average points cost of a room over a 2-month period.

Hotel room costs can vary throughout the year, so these numbers are just an example of what you could expect when traveling during a peak season for your destination. It’s always good to familiarize yourself with the cash and points costs of your hotel before booking so you know when you’re getting a good deal.

Everything You Need To Know About Kimpton Hotels

Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants is a boutique hotel brand within the IHG family of brands. Each location is thoughtfully designed to be anything but a cookie-cutter hotel.

Since Kimpton hotels are all unique, amenities can vary by location. However, many of Kimpton’s unique perks are offered at every location:

  • A pet-friendly policy with no limit on breed or size of the pet
  • Nightly social hour
  • Complimentary custom-designed PUBLIC bikes
  • In-room Peloton bikes (at select locations)
  • Yoga mat in every room
  • Spas at select locations (IHG One Rewards members will get a $30 credit that can be used toward any 50- to 80-minute in-room spa treatment at participating locations)
  • Raid the Bar: a $10 credit that Platinum and Diamond elite members can use at the hotel’s restaurant bar/lounge or the in-room honor bar
  • Kid-friendly perks like a kids’ welcome gift and kids’ happy hour
  • “Forgot It? We’ve Got It!” Program: guests can request many common items at the front desk free of charge

Hot Tip: Kimpton hotels often allows its guests to get fun perks and prizes with a rotating social password. Keep an eye out for this promotion and you could receive a specialized perk like free points, free parking, upgrades, or free breakfast.

IHG One Rewards

Kimpton is part of the IHG One Rewards loyalty program which means you can earn and use IHG One Rewards points at any Kimpton location.

Since IHG does not have a set awards chart, the cost of a hotel night in points can vary quite a bit and the points cost doesn’t necessarily correlate to the cash cost. IHG One Rewards points are valued at ~0.5 cents each, so you can always do some easy math to figure out when you’re getting a good deal.

You can earn IHG One Rewards points by staying at IHG properties, using an IHG credit card, utilizing the IHG Dining program, or transferring points from Chase Ultimate Rewards. You can then redeem your points for stays at any IHG hotel.

IHG One Rewards Credit Cards

If you’re a frequent guest at IHG hotels, having an IHG credit card will offer you extra perks and points earning opportunities. Here’s a quick look at the 3 cards available:

Chase Ultimate Rewards Credit Cards

IHG is a Chase transfer partner which means your Ultimate Rewards points transfer to IHG at a 1:1 ratio. While this can be a good option in some circumstances, it’s generally not the best use of your points since they are valued much higher than IHG One Rewards points (~2 cents each for Ultimate Rewards points vs. ~0.5 cents each for IHG One Rewards points).

However, if you need a few extra IHG One Rewards points for a specific redemption, transferring a small amount of Ultimate Rewards points could make sense. In addition, Chase cards offer different bonus categories than IHG cards, so it often makes sense to have both an Ultimate Rewards-earning card and an IHG card.

Here are our recommended Chase Ultimate Rewards-earning cards:
