Key Takeaways

  • Wyndham Rewards points can be transferred to 9 airline partners, including American Airlines AAdvantage and United MileagePlus.
  • Points transfer to partners at a 5:1 ratio, with a minimum transfer of 6,000 points, giving you 1,200 frequent flyer miles.
  • Transfers usually take 6 to 8 weeks to process, which is pretty standard for hotel loyalty programs.

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts takes the crown as the world’s largest hotel company. With a whopping 9,000 properties in more than 80 countries across 25 brands, the New Jersey-based company is one of the most recognizable in the world.

With properties that span all ends of the spectrum in terms of price point and branding, most of its portfolio falls into the midscale customer segment.

Unfortunately, if you find yourself with lots of Wyndham Rewards points and no hotels you want to redeem them at, you’ll want to start looking at other ways you can use points. Enter Wyndham Rewards’s transfer partners.

Wyndham Airline Transfer Partners

Currently, Wyndham Rewards has 10 transfer partners, 9 of which are airline frequent flyer programs.

All of the transfer partners maintain a 5:1 transfer ratio and a minimum transfer amount of 6,000 Wyndham Rewards points. That means if you transfer 6,000 Wyndham Rewards points to these partners, you’ll end up with 1,200 frequent flyer miles.

You can transfer 6,000, 16,000, or 30,000 Wyndham Rewards points. Unfortunately, other transfer increments are not allowed.

Transfers process in 6 to 8 weeks, which is about average when it comes to hotel loyalty programs.

Earning Wyndham Rewards Points

Currently, there are 3 co-branded Wyndham Rewards credit cards: the Wyndham Rewards® Earner℠ Business Card, Wyndham Rewards® Earner℠ Card, and Wyndham Rewards® Earner℠ Plus Card. All of them are issued by Barclays, and each has its own unique rewards structure, features, and benefits lists.

However, the best ways to earn Wyndham Rewards points, we believe, are to transfer them from Citi ThankYou Rewards or Capital One Miles.

Both Citi and Capital One transfer almost instantly at a 1:1 ratio to Wyndham Rewards.

However, we don’t recommend proactively transferring Citi ThankYou Points or Capital One miles to Wyndham because you’ll be instantly devaluing your points.

You can get so much more value out of your points, whether you are redeeming Citi ThankYou Points or Capital One miles.

Why We Like This Card

The Citi Double Cash® Card has long been one of the top cash-back credit cards on the market, and the card now has the ability to earn Citi ThankYou Points!

Cash back is earned in the form of ThankYou Points. This means each billing cycle, you will earn 1 ThankYou point per $1 spent on purchases and an additional ThankYou point for every $1 paid on your purchase balance as long as there is a corresponding balance in your Purchase Tracker.

Citi has turned the Double Cash card into a top choice for those who are looking for an everyday, no-fuss credit card.

Should You Transfer to a Partner or Book Hotel Stays?

In general, we would describe Wyndham Rewards as a second-tier hotel loyalty program. It’s not a member of the “Big 4,” which consists of Hilton Honors, World of Hyatt, IHG One Rewards, and Marriott Bonvoy.

On the other hand, these points can be quite valuable — 0.9 cents apiece, according to our valuations.

In the past, Wyndham Rewards charged a flat redemption rate for all of its properties — but the award chart has since transformed into 3 award pricing levels. Tier 1 properties are 7,500 points per night, while Tier 2 and Tier 3 properties are 15,000 and 30,000 points per night, respectively.

Notably, the award pricing is static, which means that even if the cash rates fluctuate, the points rates will not. As a result, it’s possible to get better or worse value than 0.9 cents per point.

For example, the Kunuku Resort All Inclusive Curacao, Trademark by Wyndham charges 15,000 points per night. It’s not unusual to see paid rates of $250 or more per night, netting an exceptional redemption value of 1.7 cents per point.

But if you aren’t planning any Wyndham hotel stays, you might be willing to accept worse value just to get something out of your points.

When It Makes Sense To Transfer Wyndham Rewards Points

As we mentioned before, we value Wyndham Rewards points at 0.9 cents each. Based on a transfer ratio of 5:1, we’d need to see a value of 4.5 cents per airline mile earned in order for Wyndham Rewards transfer to make sense.

Unfortunately, there aren’t a whole lot of situations where one can attain 4.5 cents per point. These situations are generally limited to business or first class award flights.

Another situation in which it makes sense to transfer Wyndham Rewards points to airlines is if you need a small number of extra miles to make a specific flight redemption you’re thinking about.

For example, if you want to book a flight for 25,000 American Airlines miles but you only have 24,000 American Airlines miles, you can top off your balance by transferring 6,000 Wyndham Rewards points to get 1,200 more American Airlines miles. At that point, you’ll have enough American Airlines miles to book your desired flight.

Other Ways To Use Your Points

In addition to stays at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, you can redeem points for Wyndham Vacation Clubs, Caesars Entertainment destinations, Vacasa bookings, holiday rentals at Cottages.com, or redemptions at Landal GreenParks.

But some of the non-accommodation ways to use Wyndham Rewards points include:

  • Fuel discounts at Marathon Gas
  • Gift cards
  • Charitable donations
  • Owner maintenance fees
  • Shopping
  • Tours and activities

When you redeem Wyndham Rewards points for Marathon Gas purchases, you’ll get a fuel discount at participating locations, though the value is generally pretty poor.

In general, gift card redemption value hovers around 0.30 to 0.37 cents per point in value, depending on the merchant you choose.

Charitable donations can also be made in amounts as few as 500 points or as much as 45,000 points per donation. Choose from popular options like Save the Children, Armed Services YMCA, National Parks Conservation Association, and more.

You can also redeem 10,000 Wyndham Rewards points to offset $50 to $60 in maintenance fees for timeshare or resort owner maintenance fees, which translates to a value of 0.5 to 0.6 cents per point.

Wyndham has an extensive shopping catalog where you can get around 0.3 cents per point of value on merchandise ranging from electronics to fashion and sporting goods. For example, an Ember 14 fl. oz. Ceramic Mug, Gen 2, Black retails for $129.99 and costs 43,817 Wyndham Rewards points, netting you a value of 0.3 cents per point.

Lastly, when booking experiences, tours, and activities with Wyndham Rewards points, you’ll get a fixed value of 0.35 cents per point.

Bottom Line: Wyndham Rewards points can be worth as little as 0.3 cents per point or as much as 0.6 cents per point when used towards non-accommodation methods like charity, shopping, and gift cards. If possible, stick to booking stays at Wyndham properties!

Redeeming Wyndham Rewards Points

Wyndham Rewards points are most valuable when used for free night stays at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts or Caesars Entertainment destinations.

Because of the fixed award pricing nature of Wyndham Rewards, you’ll get the most value from your points by booking a peak season hotel stay. That’s because although cash prices can skyrocket during the high season, the points price will remain the same, meaning you’ll get some great value!

Behind hotel stays, you might be able to get some good value out of transferring Wyndham Rewards points to airline partners.

Final Thoughts

Wyndham Rewards has 10 transfer partners, 9 of which are airlines. All transfer partners maintain a 5:1 ratio with transfer increments of 6,000, 16,000, and 30,000 points, and transfers take 6 to 8 weeks to complete.

If you can transfer your Wyndham Rewards points and get more than 4.5 cents per point in value from your frequent flyer redemptions, you’ll have broken even by our valuations (0.9 cents per Wyndham Rewards point).

However, we argue that the only way to get 4.5 cents per point of value is through high-end business or first class award bookings.

But if you need a few thousand more miles for a specific redemption in mind, it could make sense to transfer Wyndham Rewards points.
