Rewards Center

American Express Membership Rewards

You earn a welcome offer of Membership Rewards points, which are worth around 2.2 cents per point when transferred to travel partners and when booking award travel. You can book flights on AmexTravel.com for about 1 cent per point.

Application Guidelines

To qualify for the Goldman Sachs Amex Platinum card, you generally need to be a client with at least $10 million in assets under management with Goldman Sachs Private Wealth Management.

Earning and Redemption

The earning structures for the Amex Platinum card and the Goldman Sachs Amex Platinum card are identical. Both cards earn up to 5x Membership Rewards points on purchases:

• Earn 5x points on flights booked directly with the airline or AmexTravel.com (up to $500,000 in purchases per calendar year, then 1x points).
• Earn 5x points on prepaid hotel bookings made through AmexTravel.com.
• Earn 1x points on other purchases.

Here are the main ways you can use Membership Rewards points:

• Transfer to airline and hotel partners (recommended for maximum redemption value).
• Book travel using Pay With Points via AmexTravel.com.
• Purchase gift cards, online shopping, statement credits, make charitable donations.

Redeeming your points with airline and hotel partners offers the most value per point. For example, a British Airways business class flight from New York to London might cost around $3,000 one-way and up to $8,000 round-trip. If there is award availability, you could transfer your points to Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, where the same round-trip business class flight costs 126,000 points plus around $818 in taxes and fees, netting you a redemption value of 1.7 cents per point.
