Food delivery services have become an important part of our everyday lives, and there are a ton of different food delivery services. With the click of a button, you can order food and have it delivered to your home. While prices are typically higher than they would be if you ordered directly from the restaurant, it is sometimes worth the premium.
There are lots of websites and apps to order from, and Uber Eats is one of the most well-known. It was started by Uber in 2014 in California and is now available in over 6,000 cities across 45 countries across the world.
In this post, we’ll show you how Uber Eats works, go over the fees associated with ordering, show you how to get free delivery, and discuss how to find promo codes and coupons.
How Does Uber Eats Work?
Uber Eats is a website and mobile app that coordinates food delivery from local restaurants directly to you. After you order and pay through Uber Eats, a driver picks up your order at the restaurant and leave it at your doorstep.
You can access Uber Eats via the website or mobile app (iOS or Android). Once you log in, enter your address to see what restaurants deliver to your area. Then you can search by restaurant name, type of food, or even a maximum delivery fee.
After selecting a restaurant, place your order and pay through Uber Eats. You can also make a pickup order through Uber Eats. With a pickup order, you need to go to the restaurant and get your food yourself, but you also save on delivery fees and a driver tip.
Uber Eats Fees
When it’s time to check out, you may notice a couple of different fees on your order, including a service fee, delivery fee, and possibly a small order fee.
Delivery fee: Up to $6
Service fee: 15% of your order total, but not more than $4.50
Small order fee: $2 for orders under $10
It’s important to note that the delivery and service fees are not considered tips and do not go to your driver. It is expected that you also add a tip to your Uber Eats driver if you are making a delivery order.
How To Get Free Delivery on Uber Eats
You can get free delivery on Uber Eats when you join Uber One, a monthly membership program. As a member, you pay $0 delivery fees for any order over $15. Plus, you get up to a 10% discount on eligible orders and deliveries and 6% Uber Cash back.
Each month you renew Uber One, you also receive an emailed promotional code for additional discounts.
Uber One costs $9.99 per month or $96 per year.
Benefits of Uber One:
$0 delivery fee on eligible food, groceries, and more
Up to 10% off eligible deliveries and pickup orders
Matching to top-rated drivers on eligible rides
Access to special offers, promotions, and invite-only experiences
Hot Tip:
If you have the Apple Card, you can get a 6-month free trial for Uber One. Just sign up with your card and Apple Pay. You also earn 3% cash-back on Uber purchases when you use Apple Pay with the card.
Uber Eats Promo Codes, Coupons, and Bonus Earnings
You can find Uber Eats promo codes, coupons, and deals in a few places.
First, look on the Uber Eats website or app. In both of these locations, you can find restaurants offering $0 delivery fees and daily deals. Some deals and offers are available right on the home page, and others are in the Promotions section.
In addition, you can find the Uber Eats refer-a-friend program. This program gives you a unique code that you can share with friends and family. When they use your code they get $20 off of a $25 order and you get $10 off a $25 order.
You can find the refer-a-friend program information on the front page of the mobile app or by going to Account > Get $10 off your order on the app. On the website, click the 3 lines icon in the upper left corner of your screen then click Invite friends.

You can also find Uber Eats promo codes on popular deals and coupons websites:
As a bonus to whatever earnings you’d get through your credit card and, you can also triple-dip and earn Marriott Bonvoy points when you link your Marriott Bonvoy account to your Uber account and select Marriott as your earning partner in the Uber app.
After you link your Marriott and Uber accounts, you can earn:
2 Marriott Bonvoy Points per $1 spent on Uber Eats deliveries to Residence Inn, TownePlace Suites or Element Properties in the United States (minimum $40 order)
1 Marriott Bonvoy Point per $1 spent on Uber Eats pickups and deliveries to other addresses (again, minimum $40 order)
3 Marriott Bonvoy Points per $1 spent on Uber XL, Comfort, Black and Black SUV rides across the United States
2 Marriott Bonvoy Points per $1 spent on UberX Reserve rides across the United States
Best Credit Cards To Use on Uber Eats
You might think that, as a part of Uber, Uber Eats purchases should count as travel on your credit card statement. They don’t. Uber Eats purchases count as dining, so use a credit card that offers bonus points on dining purchases when using Uber Eats.
In addition to cards that are great for dining, there are some that include monthly credits or free delivery for Uber Eats.
Here are our picks for the best credit cards to use on Uber Eats orders.
