The Business Platinum® Card from American Express is one of the best known and most popular premium business cards available.

Not only does it usually come with a rather large introductory bonus (targeted offers have been known to reach 150,000 Membership Rewards points), but the day-to-day benefits of the card are numerous and can be very valuable.

Especially when it comes to travel benefits, the Business Platinum is tough to beat.

You do need to know what you are getting into when applying for this card though, since it comes with a steep annual fee.

Hot Tip: The Amex Business Platinum currently has a huge welcome bonus of up to 100,000 points (terms apply.)

Table of contents

Below is a summary of the card and the current introductory bonus:

Before you apply, you’ll want to make sure you understand the benefits of the Business Platinum and be confident that they will be of value to your particular situation.

As long as you can derive more value from the benefits than what you pay for the annual fee, it makes sense to apply for the card.

Usually, once you take a look at the details of this card, you will find that you can get that annual fee’s worth of value using only a few of the benefits. The real trick is maximizing as many of the perks as you can and really putting this card to work for you.

Bottom Line: Since this is a business credit card, you need to have a business to be approved for it. The good news is that your business doesn’t have to have 100 employees and huge yearly profits for you to qualify. You can be approved as a sole proprietor using just your social security number to apply, even if you only make a few hundred dollars selling items on eBay.

Many of the benefits we will talk about below are similar to those you will get with the personal Platinum® Card from American Express, but there are a few great ones that are unique to the business version.

(FYI: Here’s our article on the benefits of the personal Platinum Card)

Let’s take a look at the details of all of these benefits and see what you get for your annual fee.

To make things easier for you: for each of the benefits that have a set cost, we will let you know the value of that benefit being included with your Business Platinum.

Benefits that don’t have a specific value listed are either (a) not available for purchase separately or (b) have a value that varies too widely to use a set number. In some cases, the benefit value will increase dramatically depending on how often you use it.

Core Card Benefits

These are the basics: your normal points earning rate, spending bonuses, fee waivers, and other details of the Business Platinum.

It is important to understand this part of your card because these benefits are what you are most likely to see as you regularly use the card.

Hot Tip: The Business Platinum is a part of the Membership Rewards program, and you will earn Membership Rewards points for all of your purchases.

No Pre-Set Spending Limit

Because this is a business card and businesses tend to make large purchases, American Express does not set a specific spending limit for your Business Platinum.

If you need to make a large charge, you should be able to do it with this card. However, if you don’t have a record of similarly sized charges, it’s best to let American Express know before you try to make the purchase.

The more you use the card and make large purchases, the easier it will be for you to extend your purchase size and not need to call ahead.

1.5x Points/$1 Spent on $5,000+ Transactions

Remember what we said about businesses typically making large charges?

Well, American Express wants to encourage you to use this card for those charges, and they are willing to reward you for doing it.

For every charge you make that is $5,000 or higher, you will earn an extra half point per dollar. For most charges, that means 1.5 times the points, but if your large charge is in one of the bonus categories for the card, the extra half point per dollar is still added on.

You can actually earn up to 5.5 points per dollar with this card if the category is right and the transaction is large enough.

A maximum of 1,000,000 bonus points can be earned with this benefit per calendar year, and the extra points will only be applied to single transactions that are over $5,000 when they are sent to American Express. That means that if a $5,000 transaction is split (due to multiple shipping dates, for example), you will not earn the bonus points.

[Discontinued] OPEN Savings Benefit

The OPEN Savings program permanently ended May 31, 2018. Any charges from June 1, 2018 will not earn OPEN Savings. Check Amex Offers for potential savings at former participating merchants.

Employee Card Spending Limits

If you have a larger business, you may want to add employees on to your Business Platinum account.

If you want to limit the amount those employees can spend on their card each month, you can easily do that. Employee card spending limits can be set up either online or by calling customer service.

Putting spending limits on some or all of your employee cards will definitely help you stay within your budget, although these limits will not be 100% guaranteed by American Express.

Certain charges like restaurant tips and extending hotel stays past your original reservation may allow the employee to go over their monthly limit.

FX International Payments Fee Waiver

A service of American Express, FX International Payments is available only to select businesses and requires a separate application for approval.

If approved for the program, American Express will waive its transaction fee of foreign currency wire payments for the Business Platinum cardmember business. A minimum transaction size may be required for certain currencies.

Although this benefit won’t be of use to many cardholders, if your business regularly makes wire transactions between different currencies, it could be of huge value to you.

WeWork (Limited to 1 Year)

Get one year of Platinum Global Access from WeWork. With this membership, you can access 300+ premium, inspiring workspaces in 75+ cities. This benefit is valued at $2,700.

To get this exclusive offer, enroll between 2/15/2019 and 12/31/2019.

American Express Concierge

The American Express Concierge Staff is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week to assist you with a wide range of requests and services.

From suggesting special gifts for your coworkers to making hard-to-get restaurant reservations, your concierge will attempt almost anything you request (within reason of course). They can arrange details for a special event, find theater tickets, or even find which stores in your area carry your favorite wine.

Of course, there will be times when the concierge isn’t able to fulfill your request, but they are always willing to give it a try…and you will often be surprised by the results.

The preferred method of contact for the American Express Concierge is by phone, but email and text message contact is available upon request.

As the cardholder, you are responsible for any approved charges that are associated with your request. These charges can range from purchases and shipping to service fees and taxes.

Travel Booking Benefits

We mentioned earlier that this card is great for travel. Well, not only is it great when you travel, but it has many benefits that start right at the beginning when you are planning and booking your trip.

From private jets and cruises to commercial flights and hotels, the Business Platinum helps you to earn more points, save more money, and easily book what you need for your travels.

$200 Airline Fee Credit ($200 Value)

Receive up to $200 in credit per calendar year as long as the card is open and in good standing. The credits will automatically be applied for airline incidentals charged by the primary or any additional cardmembers.

To be eligible for the credit, an incidental charge must be additional and separate from a ticket charge. Airline tickets, upgrades, mileage points purchases, mileage points transfer fees, gift cards, duty-free purchases, and award tickets are not eligible.

Your $200 credit is only good for your selected airline. Each cardholder must select a specific airline; that airline choice will apply to both the $200 credit and the 35% airline points rebate. Only incidentals charged by the selected airline will be credited back.

The main cardmember may select their airline choice at any time after getting the Business Platinum, but once you have selected an airline, it cannot be changed until the following January. Each January you may change your selected airline or let it remain the same.

Hot Tip: Note that this benefit resets each calendar year. That means as long as you don’t get the card on January 1, you should be able to take advantage of the airline fee credit twice in your first year for a total value of $400.

35% Airline Points Rebate

As mentioned above, the airline that you select for your 35% airline points rebate must be the same airline that is selected for your $200 airline incidentals credit. Once you have made a selection, you can change it each January.

Each time you use your Membership Rewards points to pay for qualifying airfare with points, you will get 35% of those points back. This is applied as a 3.5-point rebate bonus for every 10 points redeemed.

There are 2 types of airfares that qualify for this points rebate:

  1. Any airfare on your selected airline of choice
  2. Any business or first class airfare on any airline that can be booked through American Express Travel

A card account can earn up to 500,000 bonus miles through this points rebate each year. For most selected airlines, the bonus points rebate will automatically be credited to your account 6-10 weeks after your redemption. If either Spirit Airlines or Southwest Airlines is selected, cardmembers must call customer service to have the credit applied.

5x Points on Flights and Hotels

Eligible travel booked through amextravel.com will earn an additional 4 points per dollar, for a total of 5 points per dollar on your card.

Only scheduled flights and prepaid hotels are eligible for this bonus points benefit. Car rentals, cruises, and non-prepaid hotels will not earn extra points.

Bonus points will post to your Membership Rewards account 10-12 weeks after your final payment is made for your booking.

Hot Tip: Although it is great to earn 5x points for a travel purchase, American Express Travel does not always have the best rates. Be sure to check other sources for your travel purchases and compare prices. Sometimes if you call, American Express Travel can match a price you find elsewhere, and you will still be able to get the 5x points for the booking.

2x Points on Cruises

Cruise bookings made at amextravel.com are eligible for an additional 1 point per dollar, for a total of 2 points per dollar on your card.

To be eligible, a booking must be initiated and paid in full through American Express Travel. This bonus cannot be combined with any other bonus point offer on your card.

Cruise Privileges ($100, $200, or $300 Value)

Business Platinum cardmembers are eligible to receive the following shipboard credits when booking voyages of at least 5 nights through American Express Travel or an eligible provider and paying with their card.

  • $100 USD shipboard credit for inside and outside staterooms; $200 USD shipboard credit for balcony, verandah, and mini-suite staterooms; and $300 USD shipboard credit for suites on Celebrity Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, and Royal Caribbean International
  • $300 USD shipboard credit for all Queen Mary oceanview staterooms category EF or higher, and Queen Victoria/ Queen Elizabeth oceanview staterooms category FA or higher on Cunard Line
  • $300 USD shipboard credit for all stateroom categories on Ama Waterways, Oceania, Regent, Azamara, Seabourn, Crystal, Silversea, Uniworld, and Windstar

Credits require double occupancy and may not be available to cardmembers outside of the United States. There are some specific exclusions for certain sailings and additional terms may apply.

Delta Private Jets — Commercial Flight 20% Discount

Cardmembers are eligible to apply for a Delta Private Jets Card, which upon funding opens up booking for private charter flights operated by Delta Private Jets.

In addition, any cardmember who purchases a Delta Private Jets Card is entitled to a 20% discount off of published fares for Delta Air Lines commercial flights.

This discount only applies to certain fare classes, and travel must be booked through a Delta Private Jets representative.

International Airline Program (Potentially Thousands in Value)

Amex International Airline Program
These 22 airlines are the current participants in the American Express International Airlines Program. You can save on premium class bookings when going through American Express.

Cardmembers can get access to discounted airfares for themselves and up to 7 travel companions when booking through the International Airline Program. Discounts apply only to the base fare of eligible flights.

There are over 20 airlines participating in the program; savings are eligible on first, business, and premium economy tickets. Tickets must originate in the United States or at select Canadian gateways. One-way flights are only eligible on certain airlines.

When booking through this program, you will earn 5x points through your card as well as points through the airlines’ frequent flyer programs. You also have the option of booking all or part of your fare with your Membership Rewards points.

A $39 service fee is applied per ticket booked through the International Airline Program.

Hot Tip: Discounts through this program can regularly be 10% or greater off of published fares, but as always, you should check pricing in other places before booking. American Express will not always have the lowest fares.

Travel Benefits

In addition to the great benefits you are eligible for when booking travel, the Business Platinum® Card from American Express has some perks that will make things easier for you while you are actually traveling. Photo courtesy of Shutterstock.

Fee Credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck ($100 or $85 Value)

Global Entry is a program from Customs and Border Protection that allows passengers to have expedited clearance when arriving in the United States. The program requires a detailed application, an interview, and payment of a $100 application fee before approval.

If you pay the application fee on your Business Platinum, you will automatically receive a $100 credit for the charge.

You can also receive a credit of $85 for your TSA PreCheck application fee. However, Global Entry includes TSA PreCheck, so if you are going to apply for one, you would be better off applying for Global Entry. Then you can take advantage of both programs.

Baggage Insurance (Up To $3,000 in Value)

Coverage is available when the entire fare is charged to your Business Platinum, and for the cardmember, the cardmember’s spouse or domestic partner, and any dependent children under 23 years old.

If your bag is lost during a covered trip, this benefit will pay the following for each covered person on the trip:

  • Up to $3,000 for the replacement cost of your baggage while you are in transit to or from your carrier’s terminal
  • Up to $3,000 for the replacement cost of carry-on baggage
  • Up to $2,000 for the replacement cost of checked baggage
  • Up to $1,000 maximum for high-risk items such as jewelry, electronics, precious metals, and furs

If your loss includes both carry-on and checked baggage, a maximum of $3,000 total will be paid. Certain terms and exclusions apply.

Travel Accident Insurance

For this coverage to apply, the entire fare for the trip must have been paid with your Business Platinum, and a loss must occur within 100 days after the accident or injury.

Benefits of up to $500,000 will be paid if a covered person is killed or dismembered while riding as a passenger on, boarding, exiting from, or being struck by a common carrier.

Coverage is also available for passengers who suffer exposure or disappearance due to a common carrier’s vessel disappearing, wrecking, or sinking. Certain terms and exclusions apply.

Hot Tip: For more general information on travel insurance, see our article: The Ultimate Guide to Buying the Best Travel Insurance (For Your Situation)

Premium Global Assist Hotline

Business Platinum cardmembers have access to the Premium Global Assist Hotline at any time.

The hotline can help you prepare for your trip before you leave with customs and other logistical information for your destination.

When traveling more than 100 miles from home, they can assist with lost passport replacement service, translation services, missing luggage assistance, and emergency legal and medical referrals.

Any third-party charges from businesses referred by the hotline are the responsibility of the cardmember.

In certain cases, the Global Assist Hotline may be able to coordinate and provide emergency medical evacuation at no cost to the cardmember.

Airport Lounge Access

If you have never been into an airport lounge, you may wonder what all the fuss is about and why people love them so much. However, once you have experienced the luxury and relaxing environment, you won’t want to go without it ever again.

It’s not just a more comfortable seat or a couple of snacks. Some of the best lounges have high-end dining, spa services, free premium drinks, and even beds for a quick nap if you need it.

When you get to the airport before a flight, it’s nice to be able to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the terminal.

If you have a short layover, a quick snack and a drink at no charge may be just what you need.

When you get off of an overnight flight to the other side of the world, nothing can beat a quick shower in an arrivals lounge before you head out to conquer a new city.

The Business Platinum gives you access to several different lounge programs, so you will almost always have a place to relax when you travel.

American Express Centurion Lounges

With their Centurion Lounges, American Express is looking to provide the best food in the most comfortable setting and most relaxing space at the airport.

The locations are limited, but if you happen to be at an airport with a Centurion Lounge, it is worth going out of your way for a visit.

All Amex Centurion Lounges include the following:

  • Fresh, seasonally-inspired fare developed in partnership with renowned local chefs
  • Signature cocktails, premium spirits, and curated wines
  • High-speed Wi-Fi
  • Semi-private workspaces
  • Computer bar with printer/fax/copier
  • TVs, magazines, and newspapers

Select Centurion Lounges offer these additional amenities:

  • Spa services
  • Wine tasting area
  • Conference room
  • Shower suites
  • Family room
  • Luggage lockers

With your Business Platinum, you have complimentary access to Centurion Lounges and may bring up to 2 guests with you at no charge.

Centurion Lounges are located at these airports:

American Express Lounges and Centurion Clubs

American Express also operates a lower tier group of lounges throughout the world. These lounges do not have all of the amenities of their Centurion Lounges, but they are still solid options for airport lounges when you are at the right airport.

American Express lounges and Centurion Clubs are available at these airports:

  • Mumbai, India (BOM) – Temporarily Closed
  • Delhi, India (DEL)
  • Buenos Aires, Argentina (EZE)
  • Mexico City, Mexico (MEX) – 3 lounges
  • Monterrey, Mexico (MTY) – 2 lounges
  • Sydney, Australia (SYD)
  • Toluca, Mexico (TLC)

Priority Pass Membership ($399+ Value)

As a Business Platinum cardholder, you can sign up for a complimentary Priority Pass Select membership.

Priority Pass Select membership gives you access to over 1,000 airport lounges in more than 500 cities, located in over 130 countries. At lounge locations that allow guests, you can bring in 2 companions free of charge. Additional guests will be charged to your card at $32 each.

The lounges that participate in the Priority Pass program vary greatly in what they offer; you’ll find everything from small rooms with uncomfortable chairs to spacious areas with gourmet food, plush seating, free drinks, showers, and more.

The Priority Pass app will give you some details and at least provide an idea of what type of lounge you are about to walk into. You are guaranteed to be surprised at some of the tiny airports where you can find an amazing available lounge.

The Priority Pass Select membership is not sold separately, but its benefits are closest to the Prestige Membership offered by Priority Pass. That membership costs $399 a year but doesn’t include any guests, so the Priority Pass Select membership that you get with this card is even more valuable. Note: Priority Pass memberships from US-issued American Express cards no longer include restaurants (‘non-lounge airport experiences’).

Delta Sky Club ($495 Value)

Business Platinum cardmembers have complimentary access to Delta Sky Club locations when traveling on a same-day Delta operated flight or on a Westjet operated flight that was marketed and ticketed by Delta.

Up to 2 guests can accompany the cardmember for an additional fee.

Delta Sky Clubs are a great place to relax before your flight. Since you are flying Delta, the lounge agents have the ability to assist you with ticketing issues, often offering a higher level of flexibility and help than agents in the terminal.

In comparison, a one-year membership to the Delta Sky Club costs $545 and now no longer provides access when not traveling Delta or one of it partners, so the only time you would have access with a Sky Club Membership but not with the Business Platinum is when traveling one of Delta’s other partners.

Escape Lounges ($40+/$120+ Per Visit Value)

Cardmembers have access to all U.S. locations of Escape lounges. Up to 2 guests may enter the lounge along with the cardmember for no additional charge.

To enter an Escape Lounge, passengers must show a boarding pass for confirmed same-day travel.

Escape Lounges are currently available at the following U.S. locations:

  • Minneapolis Saint-Paul International Airport (MSP)
  • Oakland International Airport (OAK)
  • Bradley International Airport (BDL)

Escape Lounges cost $40 and up per person for a day pass. Since you are allowed 2 guests when you enter, you can get a $120+ value per visit with this complimentary membership.

Airspace Lounges ($20+ Per Visit Value)

Airspace Lounge San Diego
The Airspace Lounge at San Diego International Airport has a great view of planes on the tarmac.

Access to Airspace Lounges requires only your Business Platinum and an ID; a ticket or boarding pass is not required for entry.

Cardmembers can bring either their spouse and dependent children under the age of 21 or 2 guests into the lounge with them at no additional charge.

Airspace Lounges are located in New York (JFK), in Cleveland (CLE), and in San Diego (SAN), and offer complimentary snacks, a full bar, and a variety of other amenities.

Entrance passes for Airspace Lounges start at $20 and go up depending on the time of day and how busy the lounge is. Since the price is not set and you can bring in 2 guests or a spouse and children, it is tough to put an exact value on this benefit.

For just you, it could be as low as $20 per visit. For you and guests or family at a busy time, it could go up to as much as $210 or higher per visit.

Lufthansa Lounges ($40+ Per Visit Value)

For a limited time you also get access to Lufthansa Lounges in Frankfurt (through March 31, 2019) and Munich (through May 31, 2019). You must be flying on a Lufthansa Group flight (Lufthansa, Austrian, and Swiss). Travel in any class will give access to Lufthansa Business Lounges. Business class passengers can access Lufthansa Senator Lounges in Frankfurt Airport T1 Concourse B and Munich Airport T2 Satellite area T1 Concourse B in Frankfurt Airport.

Wi-Fi Packages

Having access to Wi-Fi when you travel means you can get work done, stay in touch with friends and family, or even post a few pictures on social media.

When you can get free access to Wi-Fi, that’s even better, and your Business Platinum will help you with that while inflight and on the ground.

Gogo Inflight Wi-Fi ($160 Value)

Each cardmember, including any additional cardmembers that you have added to your account, will be eligible for the Gogo Preferred Program.

Once you have registered, this program provides 10 complimentary single flight Wi-Fi passes per calendar year. Passes will be loaded to your Gogo account and can be redeemed once the Wi-Fi is active on your flight.

Gogo operates inflight Wi-Fi on select flights on the following airlines:

  • Air Canada
  • American Airlines
  • Alaska Airlines
  • Delta Air Lines
  • United Airlines
  • Virgin America flights

Gogo does not offer full flight passes on all of their flights anymore, but when they are available, they average around $16. Since you get 10 of these passes with your card, we value this benefit at $160.

Boingo Internet Preferred Plan ($468 Value)

Your other option for free Wi-Fi with the Business Platinum is through Boingo.

After signing up for the complimentary Boingo American Express Preferred Plan, cardmembers can enjoy free unlimited Wi-Fi at over 1 million hotspots worldwide.

Up to 4 devices can be used with the Boingo plan, and if you are using more than one device at a time, they must be connected to the same hotspot.

By downloading the Wi-Finder app, you can receive alerts and connect automatically to Wi-Fi hotspots when you are traveling.

This package normally costs $39 per month, for a total value of $468 each year you have the Business Platinum.

Hotel Elite Status (Big Value Potential)

Many co-branded credit cards from different banks give you elite status as a benefit of holding the card and spending a certain amount.

To compete, American Express has included mid-tier elite status with 2 major hotel programs as part of the Business Platinum.

You don’t have to complete any spending or have another co-branded card; you’ll automatically be elite.

Hilton Honors Gold Status

Conrad Koh Samui
Enjoy the benefits of your complimentary Hilton Honors Gold status at the Conrad Hotel in Koh Samui, Thailand. Photo courtesy of Hilton.

Upon request, Business Platinum cardmembers will receive a complimentary upgrade to Hilton Honors Gold elite status.

Gold status benefits include the following:

  • 25% bonus on all points earned when staying at a Hilton portfolio hotel
  • 5th night free when booking an award stay of 5 nights or more
  • Complimentary in-room internet
  • Late checkout upon request
  • 2 free bottles of water per stay
  • Various benefits specific to the hotel brand you are staying with, including points bonuses and room upgrades

Marriott Bonvoy Gold Status

As long as you hold the Business Platinum, you will also have Marriott Bonvoy Gold elite status.

Some Marriott Bonvoy Gold status benefits include:

  • 25% bonus on points earned on eligible stays
  • Guaranteed 2 p.m. late checkout
  • Complimentary room upgrade at check-in
  • Enhanced internet access

Car Rental and Roadside Assistance

When you rent a car while traveling, you not only want to get a great deal, but you want to know you are protected as well.

The Business Platinum helps with both of those desires. By giving you automatic elite status and discounts with car rental companies, you can expect great prices and complimentary upgrades.

Rental insurance and roadside assistance benefits make sure you have protection in case of a loss with your rental, and they can even help you with a breakdown at home.

Avis Preferred

When booking a rental with your Business Platinum, you will receive a one-class upgrade when available, special savings, and a free weekend rental certificate when you rent twice in 6 months.

Your card contract code also lets you skip the rental counter lines and go straight to the cars, and gives you access to Avis Preferred Select & Go, which lets you upgrade or exchange your car right up to the time that you pick it up.

Hertz Gold Plus Rewards

Your Business Platinum will get you fee-waived enrollment in the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards program, plus an upgrade when you rent an Intermediate through Full Sized car (based on availability).

National Emerald Club Executive Status

Rental Car View
Choose any car you want when you rent with National, thanks to your complimentary upgrade to Executive Elite status. That way, you will be comfortable for sure as you take in those amazing views from the road. Photo courtesy of Shutterstock.

With National, cardholders are given a complimentary upgrade to Emerald Club Executive status.

The biggest benefit of this elite level is that you can choose your own car from the Executive Aisle when picking up your rental. This almost always allows you to pick a much bigger, nicer, or more fun car than what you reserved and paid for.

In addition, if you reserve a Full Size through Luxury level car, you are eligible for upgrades based on availability.

Finally, the status gives you a choice of an accelerated schedule toward a free rental day or the ability to earn airline miles or hotel points when you rent a car.

Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance

This coverage will pay for damage to your rental vehicle or for vehicle replacement in the event of theft of your covered car. It will not pay for damage to other vehicles or property or for injuries to you, your passengers, or others.

For coverage to apply, you need to decline the collision damage waiver when you rent your car. There are certain location and vehicle-type exclusions that can be found in the coverage terms.

Hot Tip: This coverage is secondary, meaning that your primary personal auto insurance will pay out first in the event of a loss. If there are remaining charges that your primary insurance does not cover, this policy will pay for those expenses.

Premium Roadside Assistance

Up to 4 times a year, you can make use of the following services at no charge as long as the cardmember is present with the car when service is rendered.

  • Towing up to 10 miles
  • Winching
  • Jumpstarting for your vehicle
  • Flat tire change when the cardmember has a workable spare
  • Lockout service when the key is in the vehicle
  • Delivery of up to 2 gallons of fuel

The cardmember will be charged for towing in excess of 10 miles. Services are available within the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

There are some specific exclusions, including certain vehicle types.

Concert and Event Benefits

Paying for a premium card also comes along with a few benefits you would expect for concerts and events.

From special seating to an early opportunity to buy tickets to exclusive events, your Business Platinum has you covered.

Preferred Seating

Several of the premium cards that American Express offers have access to preferred seating at concert and event venues throughout the United States.

These preferred seats are for sale exclusively to American Express cardmembers and are available at no additional cost. Seats are limited and not available for all shows.

During the specified presale times and dates, tickets will be available only to American Express cardholders.

Presales for American Express events usually happen at the same time or right after fan club presales in the case of concerts, and before sales to the general public for all events.

Tickets are sold at regular prices and with normal service charges and fees. Not all seats for any one event will be available during the presale.

By Invitation Only

American Express Northern Lights

Your Business Platinum  gives you access to special events that are curated by the team at American Express just for their premium cardmembers.

From fine dining, art, and fashion to once-in-a-lifetime performances and sporting events, you are sure to find a By Invitation Only event that appeals to you.

Cardmembers can browse available events to see details, pricing, and when the tickets will go on sale. Then they can call to purchase tickets to an event they would like to attend.

Dining and Shopping Benefits

Want to get a reservation at that amazing restaurant when you visit a new city? American Express can help with that.

Want added protections for purchases that you make every day? American Express can help with that too.

When it comes to dining and shopping, your Business Platinum will make sure you have a great experience and can make your purchases with an extra level of comfort and security.

$200 Annual Dell Statement Credit

Get up to $200 in statement credits annually by getting up to $100 semi-annually for U.S. purchases with Dell. Enrollment required.

Global Dining Collection

This program is more than just getting a reservation like we mentioned above. It adds experiences and access to places you just can’t get anywhere else.

Of course, if it’s a reservation that you need, your concierge can help. Business Platinum cardmembers have special access to tables at hundreds of restaurants all over the world.

If you want to meet the chefs, you can do that too. Special events at restaurants and festivals around the world give you a chance to meet top restauranteurs and chefs, and learn what makes them so great at what they do.

Maybe special experiences are more of what you want. If so, book with your concierge at one of the partner restaurants for kitchen tours, special menus, custom drinks, and more when you visit.

Once you have enrolled your Business Platinum in the InCircle program, you will earn 1 InCircle point for each eligible dollar spent on your card at Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Last Call, Horchow, or Cusp.

To earn points in the InCircle program, you typically need to put your spending on one of their store credit cards. The partnership with your Business Platinum allows you to get around this requirement and earn both InCircle points and Membership Rewards points on your purchases.

For every 10,000 InCircle points that you earn, you will automatically receive a $100 InCircle Point Card to be spent in-store.

There are some exclusions to earning, including valet services, fine jewelry, handbags, and a few others that can be found in the program terms.

Return Protection (Up To $1,000 Value)

Purchases that you make on your Business Platinum will automatically have return protection for 90 days from the date of purchase.

If you try to return an item to the store within that timeframe and they will not take it back, American Express will reimburse you for the purchase.

Purchases must have been made in the U.S. or its territories, and there is a rather low limit of $300 per item and $1,000 per card account for each calendar year.

Hot Tip:Higher limits for return protection can be found on other cards, so you may want to look elsewhere for larger purchases if this benefit is important to you.

Extended Warranty (Up To $10,000 Value Per Item)

The extended warranty protection on your Business Platinum will provide 1 additional year of warranty coverage for items purchases fully with your card.

For this coverage to apply, the original warranty must have been a U.S. manufacturer’s warranty with a term of 5 years or less.

After the original warranty has expired, if your item fails, American Express will reimburse you for the full purchase amount, minus any shipping and handling charges on the original purchase.

Reimbursement is limited to $10,000 per item and $50,000 per cardmember account per calendar year.

Purchase Protection (Up to $10,000 Value Per Occurrence)

Purchase protection automatically applies to all items you purchase with your Business Platinum.

If your item is accidentally damaged, stolen, or lost within 90 days of purchase, American Express will reimburse you for the full purchase price.

A claim must be filed within 30 days of your covered loss or damage, and a maximum of $10,000 per occurrence and $50,000 per cardmember account per calendar year will be covered.

This coverage is secondary to any personal insurance policies that may apply to your purchased items. You will be reimbursed by American Express for the amount remaining between what is covered by your primary insurance and the actual purchase price.

Final Thoughts

If you have read this far, you probably have a pretty good idea which of the huge number of benefits you will be able to take advantage of when you become a cardmember.

You probably also have an idea whether those benefits will outweigh the large annual fee. In most cases, the answer to that will be a resounding YES!

If you take advantage of just the Airline Fee Credit ($200 x 2) and the Global Entry Application Reimbursement ($100) in the first year, you already have a value of $500.

In subsequent years, you will only have a single use of the Airline Fee Credit ($200) and no Global Entry Credit, so balancing the value gets a bit tougher — you will need to make up additional value with the other benefits.

If you value airport lounges and free Wi-Fi, it’s easy to make up the difference. Even if you don’t, it’s pretty simple to get plenty of value from the remaining benefits.

All in all, the Business Platinum is a great premium card to get. The benefits are plentiful, the luxury is obvious, and the Business Platinum is definitely a card you should think about putting in your wallet if you have a business.
