Key Takeaways

  • Hyatt offers a diverse portfolio of hotel brands, ranging from luxury options like Park Hyatt and Andaz to more budget-friendly choices such as Hyatt Place and Hyatt House.
  • The luxury brands focus on delivering upscale amenities and unique experiences in prime locations worldwide, such as the Ventana Big Sur, an Alila Resort.
  • For extended stays or family travel, Hyatt House and Hyatt Vacation Club provide home-like accommodations with kitchen facilities and additional space.

Hyatt is one of the fastest-growing major hotel chains globally. Previously criticized for having a small footprint worldwide, Hyatt has impressed (and continues to do so) with its incredible pace of opening new properties, primarily those in the upscale and luxury categories.

Currently, Hyatt has over 1,350 properties worldwide in 79 countries, which is still on the smaller side compared to competitors like Hilton and Marriott.

Still, it’s a formidable hospitality company. And if you’re looking to get exceptional value when redeeming points at luxury hotels, you’ll want to pay attention to this guide.

Hyatt Brands Overview

Hyatt Brands January 2025
Hyatt has numerous brands, ranging from budget-friendly properties like Hyatt Place and Hyatt House to ultra-luxurious choices like Park Hyatt, Thompson, Alila, and Andaz. Image Credit: Hyatt

Hyatt currently has 33 brands within 5 distinct tiers — Luxury, Lifestyle, Inclusive, Classics, and Essentials. Hyatt owns Mr and Mrs Smith, a booking platform for luxury and boutique hotels, and has a licensing agreement with the Venetian Resort Las Vegas. Both entities participate in the Brand Explorer perk and guests can earn and redeem World of Hyatt points at either. However, neither is considered an official Hyatt brand, according to a spokesperson for the chain.

On the lower end, you’ll find properties like Hyatt Place and Hyatt House (which are still superb for value travelers). On the higher end, you’ll see world-famous names like Park Hyatt, Andaz, Alila, Thompson, and Grand Hyatt.

Let’s take a closer look at each of Hyatt’s brands.

33 Hyatt Brands Explained

Hyatt’s portfolio includes over 1,350 hotels across 33 brands on 6 continents. Each brand has its own identity and is categorized into one of 5 tiers: luxury, Lifestyle, Inclusive, Classics, and Essentials.

Let’s take a closer look at each of these Hyatt brands to find out what makes each one unique.

1. Alila

Alila is one of the most exclusive luxury brands in the world. With fewer than 20 properties, this eco-focused luxury brand is known for offering experiential accommodations.

Alila, meaning “surprise” in Sanskrit, sets out to reframe the interpretation of culture, history, local cuisine, and more when you stay at its properties. It blends modern luxury with centuries-old traditions to create authentic experiences.

It competes with brands like Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts, COMO Hotels & Resorts, One&Only Resorts, and Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas.

2. Alua Hotels & Resorts

Alua Hotels & Resorts is one of the brands that World of Hyatt absorbed through its acquisition of Apple Leisure Group, which focuses on all-inclusive, leisure-focused properties around the world.

Most Alua properties are in Spain, with a handful located in Greece and Bulgaria. These 3- and 4-star properties offer guests a wide variety of activities and flexibility. There are options for adults-only, family, all-inclusive, and wellness experiences.

Check out our Alua hotel review:

3. Andaz

One of Hyatt’s flagship brands, Andaz offers a boutique feel and is known to be housed in the most prime locations available. This brand blurs the line between business and leisure luxury.

Andaz’s high-end travelers value staying in the best location, enjoying curated art, indulging in fantastic dining, and delighting in top-tier amenities.

Andaz’s direct competitors include W Hotels, EDITION Hotels, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, SLS Hotels & Residences, and Viceroy Hotels & Resorts.

Check out our Andaz hotel reviews:

4. Breathless Resorts

Breathless Resorts is another brand that Hyatt acquired through its purchase of Apple Leisure Group. These adults-only resorts are focused on delivering a social beachfront experience in an all-inclusive environment.

Here, you’ll experience live music, excellent “daylife,” and brag-worthy nightlife. You’ll enjoy unlimited dining and drinks, 24-hour room service, pool and beach service, endless entertainment, and free Wi-Fi.

5. Bunkhouse Hotels

Hotel San Cristobal Bunkhouse Hotels

Hyatt acquired Bunkhouse Hotels when it bought Standard International, the parent company of The Standard and Bunkhouse Hotels. Hotels within the Bunkhouse brand, located in Texas, Kentucky, California, and Mexico, are unique properties that take inspiration from their locations.

This is still a small brand, with just 11 locations open currently and 1 in the pipeline.

While Bunkhouse Hotels was acquired by Hyatt, it’s still not part of the World of Hyatt program. This is expected to be integrated later in 2025.

6. Caption by Hyatt

Caption by Hyatt is one of Hyatt’s lifestyle brands that focuses on connecting people with its innovative social spaces.

These hotels offer work-friendly common areas, approachable, open-air spaces, and locally influenced food and beverage options. On average, the rooms are smaller than those at a full-service property — each “cozy” room is 220 to 270 square feet.

Caption by Hyatt, which targets casual business travelers, is said to compete with brands like AC Hotels, Aloft Hotels, citizenM Hotels, Motto by Hilton, and Moxy Hotels.

7. Destination by Hyatt

The Destination by Hyatt brand offers luxurious amenities and comfort in a boutique environment. Whether you’re into dog sledding, hiking, or just spa relaxation, Destination by Hyatt offers one of the most well-rounded approaches to luxury accommodation.

Importantly, all of these properties have retained their boutique touches, which makes staying there feel like a true luxury experience instead of a cookie-cutter chain hotel experience.

Destination by Hyatt competes directly with the Tapestry Collection by Hilton, Curio Collection by Hilton, and Autograph Collection.

8. Dream Hotels

Dream Hotels is a small brand that values high-energy vibes and embraces the local culture. These hotels are located in lively downtown neighborhoods in trendy locations like Nashville, Hollywood, and South Beach. Properties feature bold designs and an emphasis on excellent dining and nightlife.

Hot Tip:

Hyatt’s all-inclusive resorts have a separate award chart. There are 6 categories (A to F), with award rates ranging from 12,000 to 58,000 World of Hyatt points per night for 2 people.

10. Grand Hyatt

Grand Hyatt is one of Hyatt’s most well-known brands. With a rich history, time-tested brand power, and consistent service, it offers a wonderful luxury experience.

As one of the most international Hyatt brands, Grand Hyatt’s reach extends to 28 countries globally. A full-service brand, this luxury arm of Hyatt allows you to discover the best of a destination, thanks to incredible locations, cultural highlights, and even celebrations and traditions on the property.

These properties tend to be Hyatt’s biggest, catering to both leisure and business travelers. Traditionally, however, Grand Hyatt appeals to those traveling in large groups or booking corporate events.

Features include elevated dining options, spacious guestrooms with spa-inspired bathrooms, an abundance of state-of-the-art meeting space, a club lounge called the Grand Club (in select locations), and spa facilities.

11. Hyatt

Hyatt Paris Madeleine
The Hyatt Paris Madeleine is one of the best value properties for the right guest. Image Credit: Hyatt

Hyatt, often shortened from Hyatt Hotels, is the namesake brand of the greater hospitality company. Surprisingly, Hyatt is one of the smallest brands in the entire portfolio.

These properties focus on contemporary accommodations in superb locations like New York and Carmel-by-the-Sea, California.

Each of these properties has flexible workspaces and comfortable living areas with free Wi-Fi no matter where you are. Although Hyatt doesn’t offer epic, gala-style event space like Grand Hyatt does, you can still host gatherings and meetings in style.

Popular with both business and leisure travelers, Hyatt properties are perfect for the discerning traveler who might not feel comfortable dropping thousands of dollars on a flagship-brand hotel like Park Hyatt. Instead, Hyatt offers pragmatic prices and upscale comfort.

The Hyatt brand competes with Marriott, Hilton, and Westin.

12. Hyatt Centric

Hyatt Centric is Hyatt’s full-service lifestyle brand found in the best spots within a given destination.

This brand appeals mostly to leisure travelers who spend the majority of their time exploring the local area, helping to facilitate wanderlust and adventure.

At the property, you’ll find functional spaces throughout, designed with the guests in mind, enabling them to work, relax, and socialize.

One of the consistent highlights is the on-property restaurant, which always offers crafted cocktails and local cuisine. The concierge service at Hyatt Centric is known to be knowledgeable and helpful in helping guests plan their trips.

These hotels offer practical accommodations with comfortable beds and choice amenities to encourage guests to recharge at the property after a full day of excursions. You might also find facilities like gyms and meeting spaces.

Hyatt Centric falls into the same competitive category as AC Hotels, Moxy Hotels, Canopy by Hilton, and Hotel Indigo.

Check out our Hyatt Centric hotel reviews:

13. Hyatt House

Hyatt House is Hyatt’s extended-stay brand. Hyatt is known mostly for its upscale and luxury properties, and Hyatt House is arguably the best extended-stay brand out there.

Rooms feature large apartment-style suites with full kitchens, separate living areas, and all the conveniences of a home in an extended-stay hotel.

Hyatt House properties all have complimentary hot breakfast (with a made-to-order omelet bar at most locations), H BAR food and beverage offerings (grab-and-go market), a 24/7 gym, 24/7 on-site laundry, fire pits and grills, free public printers with remote printing, free Wi-Fi, and more. Many Hyatt House properties also have a pool.

Hyatt House competes with Residence Inn by Marriott and Homewood Suites by Hilton.

14. Hyatt Place

Hyatt Place is often confused with Hyatt House, considering both of these are generally considered the lowest tier in terms of luxury within Hyatt’s portfolio.

Hyatt Place positions itself to be a versatile brand that caters to different traveler profiles. Offering a consistently modern and seamless experience, these properties feature thoughtfully designed rooms with distinct areas for sleep, work, and relaxation.

All rooms feature a sectional sleeper sofa, walk-in shower, vanity with 1 sink, closet, and upscale bath and body amenities. While the recreational facilities vary by location, you can almost always expect a fitness center with cardio equipment, free weights, and benches. Some properties also have pools. Plus, a breakfast buffet is (almost) always included (some locations are testing a rate that doesn’t include breakfast).

Hyatt Place competes with AC Hotels, Courtyard by Marriott, and Hilton Garden Inn.

With over 400 properties, Hyatt Place is the largest brand in Hyatt’s portfolio (not including Mr and Mrs Smith properties).

Locations are concentrated in key urban markets around the world and have flexible meeting and conference spaces. On the flip side, Hyatt Regency resort locations will appeal to couples, families, and even corporate groups looking for a more relaxed event atmosphere.

Hyatt Regency properties contain spacious and comfortable rooms with many residential features like cozy couches and functional workstations.

At these properties, you’ll find 24/7 dining options, spas, pools, business centers, premium gyms, and other world-class facilities. Notably, many Hyatt Regency properties around the world have capacity for up to 2,000 guests!

Hyatt Vacation Club owners have the option of vacationing at multiple locations across the U.S. and Mexico. These properties usually feature well-appointed guest rooms with a primary suite, a full ensuite bathroom, gourmet kitchens, huge TVs, and access to resort amenities.

However, these properties don’t have their own restaurants and dining options — instead, they are often shared with a nearby full-service resort.

For example, the Hyatt Vacation Club Maui, Ka’anapali Beach is located just next to the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa. These 2 properties share common facilities and amenities.

Hyatt Vacation Club competes with brands like Hilton Grand Vacations and Marriott Vacation Club.

18. Hyatt Vivid Hotels & Resorts
